ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT System of Measurement and Reporting for Technologies (SMART) Report Development Various clients, Canada
Project Summary
System of Measurement and Reporting for Technologies (SMART) Report Development Various clients, Canada
Project Value: >$80,000 Key Project Elements Full Life Cycle Understanding of System Technology Quantification of Baseline Scenario and Operating Impacts Specification of GHG and
Environmental Savings
CRA has completed a number of System of Measurement and Reporting for Technologies (SMART) reports for a variety of clients. These reports assess the life cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) and other environmental impacts of new and developing technologies under the auspices of Sustainable Technologies Development Canada. The analysis requires full life cycle understanding of the technology of each system, along with quantification of the appropriate baseline scenario and operating impacts. Net GHG and environmental savings or additional burdens are specified at the conclusion of the report, and the results are scrutinised by a third party auditor. CRA has undertaken projects in the following areas:
Borehole thermal energy storage of cold ocean water Production of solar cells using high purity silicone High-altitude wind energy Solid wall containment system for ocean-based acquaculture Intelligent drinking water system for preventing losses in water distribution systems Hydrogen production from residual wastes using metal reforming Mitigation technology for oil sands effluents and reducing burden on tailing ponds Gasification technology for pulp and paper wastes
CRA has also performed validation (independent third-party check) of SMART reports in the following areas:
Fuel cell production Water treatment technology using ultrafiltration Biofuel production
