Company Background Conestoga-Rovers & Associates (CRA) is an independent environmental consulting firm providing specialist services in Property and Land, Environmental Management and Industrial Operations Support. CRA Europe, headquartered in Nottingham, delivers services to clients in the UK and Europe. Part of the CRA Family of Companies, the European operations can draw upon the expertise of 3,000 staff in all relevant environmental science, engineering, construction, and IT disciplines.

Energy and Carbon Management Since its inception in 1976, CRA has been advising clients in relation to air emissions, waste management, utilities, management systems, monitoring, targeting and reporting, and data management. CRA’s experience provides the basis for our comprehensive energy and carbon management services, now currently in demand to address stakeholders’ increasing concerns regarding energy consumption, carbon emissions and climate change, and regulatory compliance. CRA’s staff have extensive experience in all aspects of energy management, including energy use in buildings and industrial processes, process efficiency and optimisation, and EMS. Our experience equips us

to provide practical guidance to organisations striving to reduce energy costs and minimise greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Our environmental accounting experts can provide robust data management programmes, delivering reliable and verifiable performance metrics as the basis for corporate reporting or emissions trading. CRA is one of the few scientific and engineering consultancies approved by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to provide project design, validation and verification services for Clean Development Mechanism projects, whereby greenhouse gas reduction or sequestration projects in the developing world can earn reduction credits for trading. CRA’s energy and carbon management services include: • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Energy and carbon accounting Integrating energy and carbon issues into EMS Carbon footprinting Energy audits Energy efficiency Carbon trading (EUETS, CDM and JI) Green buildings Energy and carbon reporting Energy impact assessment and CO2 emissions Greenhouse gas reporting Renewable energy and micro-generation Policy and strategy development Training, mentoring and competence building

CRA is dedicated to working closely with our clients to develop and implement responsive and cost-effective solutions.

GHG Accounting and Reporting CRA provides a range of services to support organisations in all sectors in accounting for their carbon dioxide and other GHG emissions. CRA works with clients to identify existing data management processes that can be adapted into an accounting system capable of producing data that conforms to the requirements of recognised reporting standards and protocols, including the GHG Protocol, the Carbon Disclosure Project, ISO 14064, and the DECC guidelines. CRA’s expert staff work to confirm organisational boundaries, selecting appropriate baselines, and developing data collection and aggregation mechanisms. The application of data testing and management protocols ensures completeness and minimises uncertainty, thereby facilitating the verification process. CRA has developed a range of data management tools based on standard software packages and also provides telemetry-based monitoring systems.

Energy Auditing and Efficiency CRA provides energy audit services for emissions reduction projects, permit compliance, and energy management and efficiency programmes. CRA staff have considerable experience in guiding organisations in achieving improvements in energy efficiency through: • Performing BAT studies for permitted processes, addressing process optimisation and completing specifications for energy-efficient plants • Optimising facilities’ and buildings’ energy consumption patterns • Raising awareness to improve the effectiveness of energy-efficiency initiatives

Renewable Energy CRA’s technical specialists provide engineering design and related services for on-site renewables, including scheme conception, options assessment, engineering design, planning, environmental assessment, tendering and construction supervision for: • Anaerobic digestion • Ground source heat pumps • Wind turbines • Solar power

Carbon Reduction Commitment CRA can help your organisation comply with the Carbon Reduction Commitment and Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC) cap and trade regime for large energy users. In addition, we provide guidance for emissions reduction and allowance trading to minimise the cost of compliance with the CRC. We provide support in the development of carbon accounting processes as the basis of robust reporting of emissions, and can guide organisations through the reporting and allowance purchasing processes. We can support companies who did not qualify to participate in Phase 1 of the CRC to determine if they need to register for the second phase. See our website for more details.

Carbon (GHG) Accounting and Management An IEMA-Approved Two-Day Training Course Conestoga-Rovers & Associates (Europe) Ltd (CRA) is pleased to announce the continued delivery of its IEMAapproved Carbon and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Accounting and Management course. This two-day course is aimed at professionals responsible for measuring, reporting, and managing carbon dioxide and other GHG emissions for their organisation. Also, this course will help organisations develop accounting processes and reduction initiatives for the Carbon Reduction Commitment. The course modules will equip you with: • An appreciation of the background to climate change, and the business and socio-political drivers for addressing GHG emissions • The capability to present business cases to senior management to gain commitment for initiatives to measure, reduce and report emissions • An understanding of the key standards and protocols for GHG measurement and reporting • The skills to develop a carbon (GHG) accounting system and to capture your organisation’s footprint • An understanding of techniques to reduce carbon and GHG emissions
