HYDRAULIC FRACTURING WATER SUPPLY POND DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OVERSIGHT

KEY PROJECT ELEMENTS

STONEWALL, LOUISIANA

 Design and construction oversight of surface water ponds  Regulatory agency coordination associated with surface water use  Gas shale hydraulic fracturing water use market research

CLIENT: PHILLIPS ENERGY PARTNERS DURATION: 2011-2012 COST: $100,000 Conestoga-Rovers & Associates (CRA) assisted Phillips Energy Partners (Phillips) in support of water supply activities by Phillips for the Haynesville shale gas play. CRA was retained by Phillips to design and oversee construction of a fracturing fluid water storage pond. CRA performed a hydrologic assessment of the associated watershed to estimate surface runoff accumulation rates, designed the impoundment dam, and designed a unique inlet structure to collect flood flow surcharge from a nearby creek without affecting base flow. CRA also designed the overflow spillway structure. CRA completed the storage pond design and oversaw construction of a surface water collecton impoundment and outlet spillway for a 100-acre-foot (776,000-bbl) pond. CRA also coordinated with Phillips to assist with identification of potential water users with interest in purchase of surface water from the ponds for use as gas shale hydraulic fracture fluid. Phillips Energy Partners was very satisfied with CRA’s design and construction oversight effort and continues to request assistance from CRA with water supply and water resources engineering
