Passionate about Art as Therapy and the connection it brings between self and surroundings, I had begun this piece while reading Luke Carman’s “Intimate Antipathies” A wonderful Author in Western Sydney. It’s rare to find books that have a profound effect on me. I had pulled fragments from it that resonated with my personal journey. This piece resembles my intimate connection to growth, hardship, and my community in Greater Western Sydney.. KRISTI MCLELLAN PAGE 12

HERITAGE THE TERRACES “Built by Coates, the Oriental Hotel beside the terraces on the corner of Smith and Phillip Streets, ”it seems the Oriental Hotel and the seven houses we currently identify as St. George’s Terrace were actually all built at the same time and were part of what was conceived of originally as the St. George’s Terrace group of eight houses. The Oriental Hotel, described as “an old brick, two-storey house” was the eighth “corner house” of St. George’s Terrace advertised in 1881 as suitable for a “STORE or HOTEL.” Furthermore, since St. George’s Terrace now occupies the corner of Phillip and Smith Streets, it appears some major modification of these streets must have occurred once the Oriental Hotel portion of the terrace was demolished. The hotel itself had been closed as early as 1908 and was notable for being “the first public house actually shut up in [the] district… perhaps even in [the] state…the “first fruits” of the temperance people’s victory at the polls of N.S.W.”
VISIT Visit this site, observe the local art and enjoy the Guerrilla Garden area recently revamped by Global Gardens Australia.

HOLLER AT YOU!
Parramatta has been Zezey’s stomping ground ever since she was young. Growing up in this concrete jungle has heavily influenced her work, as she is inspired by the urban lifestyle of Western Sydney and it’s culture. With a playful approach to making art, Zezey explores the idea of giving inanimate objects a voice with this piece “Holler at you!”

The Knitters of MAAS Decoration have joined forces to yarn bomb the site. The group of artists and creatives planned the artwork online and met together for the first time today and transformed parts of the site with bright and brilliant artwork. The knitters (and crocheters) are passionate about Parramatta retaining our heritage for their children and their childrens’ children.
