COMING EVENTS River Murray Campout / Day Trip 22 - 23 May 2010 This is either an OVERNIGHT TRIP Saturday & Sunday for those who want to camp out or a DAY TRIP Sunday only for those who don’t wish to camp. Adelaide to Woodlane on the River Murray. (Approx 85 km from Adelaide all on bitumen roads) Visit a collection of Vintage Cars and see a River Murray filtration system in
action. We intend to meet at the “Bike Park Access” Parking Bay, Eagle on the Hill (old Princes Highway) either day at 9 am. If you wish to make other arrangements please see us. We are camping on grassed private property and there is a shower and toilet available. There is also undercover area if the weather is inclement. We hope to have a damper
competition on Saturday night and there will be a bon fire to cook on. Saturday 22nd - 9 am for a 9.30 start. Camping Crew: Caravans, Tents, Swags, etc all welcome, BYO food and drinking water. Sunday 23rd - 9 am for a 9.30 start Day Trippers: BYO Chairs and Lunch

Dodge Brothers Club 2010 National Tour 19-24 September 2010 This tour is to be held at Nuriootpa prior to the Bay to Birdwood and the CRC 12th National Tour at Renmark. Entry fee is $100 and covers BBQ on Sunday 19 September, Dinner on 23rd
September, Farewell breakfast on Friday 24th September as well as entry bag and badge. There are some lovely runs around the Barossa the longest being to Clare a return distance of 112 miles. A number of interstaters will be attending and people from New Zealand, some will be doing the

2010 National Tour 2010 NATIONAL TOUR UPDATE 7 April 2010 Entries are now closed and with in excess of 150 cars and 360 people attending, we are approaching the event with anxious enthusiasm in the hope that all of the plans that have been put in place come together to present a tour not to be forgotten. All accommodation bookings will be finalized and deposits paid on 22 April 2010.
Refunds on any cancellations after this date will be subject to the guidelines as set by the various accommodation venues. Tour order forms will be posted mid April and are required to be returned by 30 June. Photos of entrants vehicles not received by this date will not be included in the Tour Magazine. FROM THE COMMITTEE President’s Message Following our 30th Birthday celebrations on Colley Reserve Glenelg, it is so evident just how much pleasure and friendship is derived from being a member of our club. I spent quite some time talking with people from our membership as well as the general public and not once have I heard a negative comment about the event. I have also spoken since the event with people from other car clubs who commented on the organised way our Marshalls went about their jobs. The speed in which we parked the display vehicles and the general cooperation of all members and their partners was most noticeable. To Chris Howes, Brenton Gibb and all the helpers on the day my sincere thanks and congratulations. We made a huge statement at that function which will be long remembered by all who attended. WELL DONE. Another important aspect to this event was that it provided an excellent practice run for our National Tour later this year. The difference of course is, we will be hosting many more cars for a longer period, so we all need to be well oiled and ready for action. Since becoming President last year I am now even more aware of privileges offered by our Club to its members. Those regular long serving members will testify to the
privilege of great friendships from fellow members, attending our monthly meetings and the knowledge gained from our guest speakers and the general information that is given freely. The ability to go on club runs to places often not accessible to the public or individuals. The availability of our brilliant magazine, access to our comprehensive library and the opportunity for historic registration. Little wonder our membership keeps on growing. With privilege however, generally comes responsibility. We are expected to adhere to the historic registration rules, to attend monthly meetings, bring supper to share and of course wear your name badge. To participate in as many club runs as possible and generally be a good ambassador for the club. Now whilst I realise the attendance requirement may be difficult for some, I encourage all members to make an effort to do their very best to keep the club vibrant, interesting and something we can be really proud to belong to. The committee is still looking for a venue for next years calendar photo shoot and although I have been sitting by the phone it is not ringing. Hello!!

Marlene and I recently returned from a most enjoyable weekend on Yorke Peninsular where a group of predominately club caravaners ventured for the Wooden boat festival at Port Vincent and Stansbury. David May was the organizer of the trip and what a great time we had. David is not a member of the management team this year but he organized it after consultation with the committee. This serves as a reminder from the last magazine where I stated that any club member is encouraged to host a run somewhere, and providing the committee agrees, let’s go for it. Please think about it and bring your ideas forward. The National Motor Museum at Birdwood invited us to place four cars on display for 3 months. They are now in place along with club flags and flyers promoting the club. Thanks to those members who responded to the invitation. ‘Till next time, happy and safe motoring.

CLUB NOTES Historic Registration and The Code of Practice As most Club members would be aware our vehicles are covered under a Conditional Registration Scheme which allows us to have limited usage of our vehicles from year to year; most members would also know that the Code of Practice issued by Transport SA, now DTEI, determines the eligibility of vehicles allowed to operate under this scheme. The Code of Practice is often a subject of great debate and to many a source of mystery when it comes to determining the eligibility criteria, not many will have read it and I thought it might be worthwhile, over the next few issues of our magazine, to include pertinent extracts from this document so that we can all be better informed. Here in no particular order of importance are a few extracts, with criteria for eligibility, direct from this document: • Conditional registration is available to owners of historic vehicles that are more than 30 years old and prescribed left hand drive vehicles that were manufactured before 1 January 1974 and have not been altered from the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) specifications apart from variations allowed in this Code. • All vehicles (including historic vehicles and prescribed left hand drive vehicles) driven on the road or road related area must comply with the requirements of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and Regulations 1999 (RTA&R). HISTORIC INTEGRITY - means the accuracy of the subject vehicle's specifications when compared with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)
specifications for the same make, model and year. • The eligibility of a vehicle for conditional registration is based on the maintenance of the “historic integrity” of the subject vehicle. Variations that detract from the vehicle's historic integrity may make the vehicle ineligible for conditional registration as a historic vehicle or prescribed left-hand drive vehicle. • For a vehicle to possess “historic integrity”, it must be the genuine vehicle, either in its original condition or has been restored to an acceptable level. Replicas and reproductions of historic vehicles or prescribed left hand drive vehicles are not eligible. • Where a vehicle is a “special” manufactured by the OEM, it is the responsibility of the owner to provide evidence of the OEM specification and verification that the specification applies to the subject vehicle. ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER (OEM) - means the original component as fitted by the manufacturer of the vehicle. ORIGINAL PART - means an identical part sourced from another vehicle, a commercially produced spare part or a reproduction of the original part. • if an authorised person cannot determine the authenticity of a historic vehicle or prescribed left hand drive vehicle any inconsistency must initially be referred to the club's committee • if the committee cannot determine a satisfactory outcome, the matter must then be referred to the Federation for -7-
determination • if it cannot be established that a vehicle has been previously registered in South Australia, the vehicle must undergo an identity inspection by Transport SA if the vehicle is garaged in the metropolitan area or by a member of the police force if the vehicle is garaged in a country region. A vehicle identity inspection report (MR29) will be issued So to summarise the above, we can say that a vehicle must be 30 years old, must be roadworthy (this is not a task of for the Club Assessor, rather the responsibility of the vehicle owner), must be a genuine maintained or restored to original condition vehicle, or proven OEM special. Parts and equipment must be original or identical to those originally fitted to an original vehicle; there is provision for an owner to take matters to a higher level if a dispute arises over decisions made by an Assessor. A vehicle with no previous history of SA registration will need to undergo an identity check by DTEI or SA Police prior to being registered. As always the club committee is available for more detailed assistance and in particular for HVR members, it is preferred that you approach these people for advice rather than your local Motor Registry office. Future extracts will highlight the issues of body, engine, transmissions etc.

CLUB NOTES Member profile - Bob and Ellen Haywood PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR CAR(S): My name is Bob Haywood my wife’s name is Ellen. We have two adult children and four grandchildren. I am a retired firefighter and enjoy classic cars. At the moment I have a 2 AP 3 Chrysler Royals one of which is for sale. In the past I have restored an EH Holden Premier which I have since sold and have another one in the shed which I must get started on. HOW
DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THE CHRYSLER RESTORERS CLUB?
A good friend Garry Williams introduced me to the club after I showed interest in Chryslers. Knowing Garry and his cars I was hooked. DID YOU KNOW ANYONE IN THE CLUB? Yes Garry Williams and Les Johnson. WHAT YEAR DID YOU JOIN THE CLUB? 2007 WHAT CAME FIRST THE CAR OR THE CLUB? The club first closely followed by the car WHERE AND HOW DID YOU FIND YOUR CAR? The type of car I was looking for was advertised on Carsales in Melbourne DID
IT NEED RESTORING OR WAS IT ALREADY DONE?
The car had been repainted prior to me buying it other than that I believe it was fairly original. DID
ANY MEMBERS HAVE ANY INPUT WITH YOUR RESTORATION? IF SO WHO?
Soon after taking delivery I discovered a cracked transmission rear extension housing and I was able to get one from Chris Howes. A later transmission rebuild was assisted by Brenton Hamilton finding me a complete transmission which was used as part of the rebuild. I was able to return the housing to Chris to replenish his spare part stock. I have found there is always some one out there to give some advise and lend tools if required. Dick Hart has been good for some sound advise.
Not really, although I have had the usual set backs that most people have. We attended the Mount Gambier rally in Jan 2009, towing a caravan, hot weather and a hot car our return trip home took us 13 hours. Assistance in Keith, with pressurised brakes, from Lindsay and Brenton Gibb was appreciated. DO YOU ENJOY GOING ON CLUB RUNS AND ATTENDING MEETINGS? Yes we attend most day runs and enjoy the social atmosphere from club members. Club meetings are always popular. WHAT IS YOUR AMBITION IN THE CLUB? Become involved and help out in areas where long standing members have done their part to keep the club the successful club that it is. DO YOU HAVE A STORY THAT NEEDS TO BE TOLD ABOUT A CLUB MEMBER? (DON’T LET THE TRUTH HOLD YOU BACK). Probably one that comes to mind was when Garry Williams decided to ask me to go for a ride with him to have a look at a car. The ride ended up being a two day trip to Castlemaine in Victoria to buy his AP3 Royal. You never know what to expect from Garry, ask Rhonda. DO

Queen Mary 2 from their home on the Esplanade at Largs North. Richard Tapp was the only one

PAST EVENTS Adelaide Hills Private Museum 14 March 2010
It was a trip down “Memory Lane” when a club outing took us to the Adelaide Hills. There was a good turn-up at the Burnside Town Hall car park for the 9.30 am start, which was a little delayed when Garry & Rhonda William’s S series Valiant sprung a radiator leak. All was well when he and Rhonda were able to continue. The hills are looking lovely at the moment and the weather was perfect – neither too hot or too cold. After a pleasant run, we were soon at our destination in the hills, to be welcomed by the owner, who gave a brief history of the family and the property. The cottage where the family heirlooms, antique furniture and
other historic items are displayed was the original homestead, but was not lived in by the family. It was used by workers in earlier times, but had been long unoccupied. At one stage, demolition was considered but, thankfully, the decision was made to make it a showcase for the family’s historic treasures. As our club members moved through the rooms, there were many memories stirred and from the comments made no-one was sorry times had changed! By comparison, life is much easier now. The house and its contents were impressive enough, but the vehicles in the shed left everyone wide-eyed. There were some 20 cars, many of makes not commonly seen, including two Yellow Cab Co taxis made by

the American Cab Company and used in Adelaide in the early 1900s. For lunch we moved to Uraidla oval, with some people calling in to a bakery on the way. This venue was lovely, with large trees providing plenty of shade. Not having realized I would be making this report, I did not make a count of cars and people. However, from what I could recall later there were approximately fifty people and 28 cars. Thanks to all who came and to Lorraine & Trevor for organizing this great outing. PAST EVENTS 30th Anniversary Display 11 April 2010
The Chrysler Restorers Club of South Australia has been established for 30 years. Chris Howes and Cathy Woods suggested that this time we should have our anniversary display at a more prominent location than the traditional Mallala Oval. Colley Reserve at Glenelg was the chosen venue and after numerous phone calls and meetings, Sunday 11 April was the date selected. David and Melva Schumacher
Under the supervision of Brenton Gibb, a willing gang of helpers - erected marquees, marshalled and parked cars in readiness for the advertised 10.00 am start. A great selection of 99 vehicles dating from the early 1920s through to the late classics formed a very impressive display at this popular Glenelg reserve. We had a continuous stream of people who wandered around the cars, asked many questions and even told their own story of Chrysler vehicles in their past. The attendance of members with their selection of quality vehicles, many of whom travelled long distances, was much appreciated.

PAST EVENTS 2010 Yorke Peninsula Saltwater Classic 16-19 April 2010
The morning of Friday 16th April, with the sun shining, was a perfect start for our weekend on Yorke Peninsula for the Salt Water Classic at Stansbury and Port Vincent. We met at Bolivar around 9.30 for a 10 am departure. Richard, who must have had a leave pass from work, was on hand with his camera to get a few shots of our cars prior to us departing. With a good attendance of about 12 cars and caravans we headed to our arranged morning tea stop in Port Wakefield. Bob and Judy Freak only travelled a couple of kilometres before deciding that a steering box problem was probably not worth the risk with the distance involved so Bob unhooked the van and returned home to pick up his modern car to do the trip. All arrived at Port Wakefield and after a cup of coffee and a regathering at a local park, ventured on to Ardrossan for lunch at one of our favourite bakeries. We spent a little bit of time there and enjoyed the break at the cliff- top park. A stop at Ardrossan was not complete without a visit to the local op shop to catch up on some not to be missed nick-nacks. From there we travelled at our leisure to Stansbury with most arriving by mid-afternoon. After being allocated our respective sites we set up camp ready for the happy hour which proved to be quite popular each day. The meal was your own choice with most looking for a quiet night. PAST EVENTS 2010 Yorke Peninsula Saltwater Classic (ctd) at around 9.30 complete with caravans for a street display and the official opening of the weekend’s events. A good crowd of visitors appeared to enjoy the display of our classic cars and caravans while waiting for the arrival of the wooden boats. These were quite an interesting selection of craft with an amazing amount of restoration involved no doubt. The official opening was performed by the local council member Mr Ray Agnew followed by a terrific display from the Metropolitan Fire Service fire boat which showed the firefighting capabilities of this state of the art vessel with the water jets from three high pressure monitors. By around 3.30 in the afternoon people were beginning to disperse so we decided to pack up and returned to Stansbury. On returning to the park we found Richard Tapp had arrived after a quite eventful start to his day,

The Saturday evening happy hour went into tea time where everyone supplying their own food joined in for a community barbecue. An enjoyable time where a few stories were told well into the night. Sunday’s venue was a street closure allocated for our cars and caravans as well as any visitors who wished to display their classic and unique vehicles. Stansbury turned on a good variety of markets along the beach front which attracted a lot of interest. The wooden boats were displayed along the esplanade as well as a good display of stationary engines with a large number from the Adelaide Hills Club. Members from the Restorers Club met at the hotel and enjoyed a beautiful lunch. Our display of vehicles created a lot of interest and was well attended by the public. The Highway Palace as usual the centre of attraction. We returned to the Park at around 3.30 after a most successful day. A get together before tea as usual but an early night for most in preparation for the return trip home next morning. Monday morning with breakfast out of the way we were on our way after a well organised and enjoyable weekend.
