Issue 052-July 2020

This month, the Jobcentre gives advice to those who are looking for work or employers advertising jobs during the coronavirus pandemic, explaining the top online recourses to help you find a job

Our support to employers, claimants and individuals during COVID-19

During the coronavirus pandemic, the Jobcentre would like to encourage claimants to continue to prepare and look for work where it is safe to do so

These are difficult and uncertain times, however, new jobs are being created daily and employers are advertising a variety of roles.

Retailers have announced tens of thousands of new jobs in response to the coronavirus outbreak and claimants are encouraged to explore these opportunities and others where they are able to do so.

In addition, the National Careers Service (alongside a number of leading employers and educational establishments) has developed a new online skills platform, The Skills Toolkit, which encourages and supports the public to develop their digital and numeracy skills as an opportunity during the outbreak to upskill for current or future roles.

Cross-government advice remains to stay at home unless it is safe for you to work. The Skills Toolkit will develop the skillsets of those who are unable to work now, so that we can have a stronger recovery in the future.

Please find below useful links and information for individuals and employers who are looking for work or training opportunities at this time, which includes the newly launched ‘Employerhelp’ and ‘Jobhelp’ sites.

Jobhelp (jobhelp.dwp.gov.uk) - information on what types of roles are good to apply for right now

Find-a-job (Gov.uk) - search and apply for jobs

National Careers Service – support including developing your CV and understanding the job market. Ring 0800 100 900 to book an appointment

Jobs Fuse (from Humber LEP) - fuse.humberlep.org/

The Jobs Fuse is a new service helping those whose jobs have been affected by the coronavirus crisis in the local area get back into employment, while supporting key regional employers with gaps in their staffing due to the pandemic.

The Skills Toolkit (nationalcareers.service.gov. uk) - free digital and numeracy courses to build your skills

Vision2learn (www. visiontolearn.com) - offers a range of nationally accredited courses delivered online

www.gov.uk - up-to-date information regarding employment and benefits support

Support for Employers - Employerhelp (employerhelp. dwp.gov.uk) - offers a range of advice to help your business overcome challenges associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Whether you are needing to expand rapidly, or worried about redundancies, you can find advice on next steps and the best ways to support your staff.
