The achievements and successes of local businesses were celebrated at the 10th annual Goole & Howdenshire Business Excellence Awards, which took place at Goole High School on Friday 21st February
Over 250 guests attended the awards ceremony, which was compered by Harry Gration, and is organised by a committee of volunteers from the local business community.
The event’s founder, local businessman Garrey Haase, who is chairman of the organising committee and owns the Yorkshire Eyewear branches in Goole and Howden, was recognised with a special award for his contribution over the last decade, and guests enjoyed a slice of birthday cake to mark the event’s 10th anniversary. The big winner of the night, scooping the Large Business of the Year and Overall Business of the Year titles, was Ebuyer UK Ltd. Angela Martinson, a retired head teacher from Howden, was presented with the Tim Richardson Lifetime Achievement Award. This was in recognition of the significant contribution she has made to the local community and economy through her voluntary roles on the Howden events committee, the Ashes Playing Field Trust and as a former member of Howden Town Council. Guests enjoyed a three-course meal and celebrated the success of the businesses in our local community. Although this year CreateTVT (the publishers of Our Goole) didn’t pick up an award, we are hugely proud of ourselves to be nominated for

two awards at this year’s show. There was a huge calibre of talent and we believe all the winners, not only were amazing, but were all deserved winners. Hopefully we will be back next year to pick up an award. Lisa Warrener, director of Our Goole, said: “The Our Goole team had a fantastic night and it was great to see some many brilliant businesses in and around Goole being celebrated. “Having won ‘Contribution to the Community’ in 2019, we were extremely proud of ourselves that we were nominated for the award again this year. We were up against excellent businesses and a huge congratulations to Cobus Communications who took home the award. “Not winning this year has given the team more motivation to get shortlisted again next year as we continue to help local businesses with advertising and bring more feel-good community stories to our loyal readers.” Speaking on behalf of the organising committee, Garrey Haase said: “I’d like to thank all of our fantastic finalists for entering; they gave our panel of independent judges a really tough time choosing the winners and should all be incredibly proud of their achievements. I also want to pass our congratulations on to our very deserving winners. The whole evening was a wonderful showcase for the impressive achievements of our local business community, not to mention its creativity and diversity! “Finally, I’d like to thank our judges and everyone who helps to make the annual awards ceremony happen, particularly my fellow committee members who have worked hard
over the last year to plan every last detail of the event. Without them, it simply wouldn’t happen. “From its launch, the Goole & Howdenshire Business Excellence Awards is going from strength to strength – something that I hardly dared hope for when I first came up with the idea 10 years ago! We’re already looking forward to seeing what our second decade brings.” THE CATEGORY WINNERS WERE: Contribution to the Community - Charity Martin House Children’s Hospice Contribution to the Community – Business Cobus Communications Employee of the Year Wayne Gardiner PA Media Employer of the Year Red International Marketing and Communications Agency Environmentally Friendly Business of the Year Grotech Production Ltd
