28 Mile Distillery
28 Mile Vodka Company engaged AltusWorks to lead the architectural rehabilitation of an existing two-story building in downtown Highwood to transform it into a new distillery, tasting room, bar, retail, and street side cafe. Hitchcock Design Group was engaged to design and document the street side café. During construction, the owner purchased the building next door and decided to expand. Hitchcock Design Group was re-engaged by the owner to prepare schematic design drawings for a new outdoor courtyard in place of the cafe.

The outdoor courtyard complements the interior design of the distillery and includes a new vestibule, various types of outdoor seating, a stage, fountains, fireplace, graphic art, a pergola, and unique lighting throughout the space. The clients have national aspirations for expanding their unique distillations while maintaining a strong foothold in the local community. The new nineteen-foot glass building facade of main building provides a strong street presence and gives visitors great views into the distillery. The outdoor courtyard brings the tasting experience into the streetscape, adding to the vibrancy of downtown Highwood.
