Local Tips: • Cook Islands is famous for its beautiful black pearls, sourced from Manihiki. If you’re keen to purchase pearls, always ask for certification to ensure they’re the real deal. • Although English is spoken in popular tourist areas, you can impress the locals by learning simple Maori phrases. Try “kia orana” (hello) or “meitaki” (thank you). • Take advantage of the economical Cook Island Bus Passenger Transport. The two bus loops circle Rarotonga from early morning to late evening.
What to Pack: A phrasebook and a snorkel set.
