Bi-Monthly Newsletter of the Nashville Emmaus Community

February 2017

Last summer I was asked to be the Lay Director of the Women’s Walk to Emmaus #194. I knew the Emmaus Board was lifting up this decision in prayer even before they ask me if I would serve. After prayerful consideration I agreed to accept and serve as the Lay Director for the walk. It was an honor and privilege to be asked to serve. I had been a Lay Director several years ago so I knew the time and energy that would be required during the team selection process, team meetings and the actual walk. This was God’s walk and I trusted that God would provide whatever was needed. And God did just that. I am so thankful for the women that stepped up and agreed to be on the team. I feel that everyone on the team was there for a reason – to share their relationship with Jesus to others. And we did! I would like to thank everyone that helped to make this walk a reality. It takes many people working together to accomplish all the things that have to be done preparing for the walk and during the weekend of the walk. We are the body of Christ. We are all needed no matter what our task is. It takes the conference room team but it also takes someone to makes agape to be given to the pilgrims during the weekend and everything in between. Even if you are not available to be present during the weekend, you can still help. PRAY! That is something that we all can do. Pray for the team, pray for the pilgrims, pray for the people working in the background. Emmaus depends on prayer - your prayers. Please be in prayer for the upcoming men’s and women’s walks this spring. They are depending on you. And we always need more pilgrims! DeColores, Deborah Mabry Walk 79

Our Fourth Day DeColores! We are quickly approaching the Spring Walks to Emmaus, #195 for the men, and #196 for the women. Please pray for our community, the teams that have formed, and those pilgrims who will have the opportunity to meet Christ in a new way in just a few weeks. Over the past few newsletters I have talked about the importance of following our 4th Day disciplines. Relating to this our Emmaus community, these disciplines include working on our piety, study and action, attending 4th Day events, and encouraging those people we have sponsored to earnestly work on living a life in grace on their 4th days. With the men’s and women’s team formed, we now have an opportunity to continue to recreate our community by sponsoring leaders in our churches, devoted followers, and other appropriate candidates for the Walk to Emmaus. I encourage each member of the community to reflect on how different the world seemed for you on Monday morning following your walk. For some of us it was a completely new world and for others they saw the world with a renewed set of eyes. Whether that was last fall or 20 years ago, the significance in our lives is undeniable. We can all remember where we were at the moment when Jesus joined us as we were talking and discussing (Luke 24:15). After that moment, we were never the same again. We were a new creation. As you develop your plan for how to take the action to which God calls us in the 4th day, please consider sponsoring a pilgrim or supporting the walks through your service. Join with others to make table agape, write letters, or serve with setup, kitchen, and attend the weekend services. Come with a friend, do it as a reunion group, or make new friends and share the spirit of the living God among us. I hope to see you on the road to Emmaus! DeColores, Steve Zuercher

On Martin Luther King Weekend, we welcomed 18 new butterflies into the Chrysalis Community. We had a wonderful spirit filled weekend at Fellowship UMC in Murfreesboro, Tn. A special thank you to all who led, gave talks, prayed and worked behind the scenes to make this weekend special for these young ladies. Chrysalis is the future of our community. Please consider how you can be a part of the next flight. President’s Day Weekend (February 18-20) will be the Boy’s flight. You can participate in the following ways: Providing agape (70 items) Prayer!!! Working in the Kitchen Attending Candlelight on Sunday Night at 8:00 pm. Look forward to seeing you at the next flight!

If you are interested in providing entertainment or helping with decorations for any of the upcoming walks we would love to hear from you. Contact Ruste Foster at dlfoster730@gmail.com or by phone 214-642-5184.

Kairos Community News Winter and Spring are very active times for the Kairos Community in Middle Tn. Team preparations will soon begin for Kairos #4 at Tennessee Prison for Women being led by Nancy LaSuer. Team meetings will start in mid-February and we need clergy, lay, inside, outside, food prep and COOKIE MAKERS!!! We will need about 2,000 dozen homemade cookies for this event, as will the Women's Kairos #4 at TPFW We also have a new opportunity for Women. For years it has been in the heart of several of those involved with Kairos Outside, a ministry to the female relatives of the incarcerated or those impacted by incarceration, to bring this ministry to Middle TN. This spring a weekend will be held in Cookeville led by Linda Estes. If you feel more of a call to work with those impacted by incarceration, or would like to be involved with prison ministry but are a bit hesitant about going inside prison, this may be a ministry you want to be involved with. I can tell you from personal experience, it is a true blessing to team and guests alike. Contact information:

I'm Back My name is Randy Brown, several years ago I was your Spiritual Director for the Nashville Emmaus Community. For almost eleven years now I have been living in Southern Middle Tennessee in Winchester and now in Manchester. Last year you elected me to the Nashville Emmaus Board and on Saturday (Jan. 14th) the Board asked me to again serve as the Spiritual Director for the community. After prayerful and thoughtful consideration and the urging of the Board I excepted the position. I am excited to serve in this capacity again. I ask for your prayers not only for me but for the entire Emmaus Board that is now serving and guiding this community. We have some vacant position that we are seeking to fill. Please pray for God's guidance in this endeavor. There is another issue that we ask for your prayers, we have two walks coming up in March and April. We need to begin NOW, praying for the team formation/selection process, pray about if and who God would have you sponsor for the upcoming set of walks, and pray for the weekends and all that that entails. At the end of the weekend The Weekend Lay Director tells the pilgrims that the weekend has been prayed over even before we knew who was on the team and who the pilgrims would be. Let’s make sure we do that, we don't want the LD to lie to the pilgrims. My call for the community is to be a praying community. Thank you in advance for your prayerful support of the Emmaus movement. DeColores, Randy Brown Nashville Emmaus Community Spiritual Director
