Spring break is right around the corner, and families are beginning to plan out their fun-filled week. Some pack up and head to the beach, but others prefer to stay close. Luckily if you fall into the second category, the Fort Campbell area has you covered. With so many options to explore, you can take a 5-day vacation without ever having to book a hotel. Day 1 Kick-off your vacation with a bang by loading up your family and taking a trip to the Nashville Zoo. Located at 3777 Nolensville Pike, Nashville, this zoo is sure to keep you busy all day long. It not only comes stocked with adorable animals, but there are playgrounds, great restaurants, and other exciting activities that will keep your kiddos smiling.
Day 2 Start the day off with a trip to the gorgeous Clarksville Greenway. This paved trail not only offers a great workout, but it has some spectacular views. You can jog, run, walk, bike, or skate this 4.6-mile-long trail. Pets are also welcome, so bring your furry friend along. After this workout, you may have found that you have worked up a big appetite. Pick up lunch at one of the unique and locally owned restaurants downtown. A few fan-favorite choices include Blackhorse Pub & Brewery and Yada on Franklin. After you finish up with lunch, make sure to check out a few of the shops located all throughout the downtown area. They always have great merchandise. Finish off your day with a trip to the movies. There are multiple theaters that you can choose from and so many flick options. After a long day spent on your feet, it will be nice to kick them up and enjoy a film. Don’t forget the popcorn. 5
Day 3 Everyone loves a great meal, and there is no better time to enjoy different restaurants than on vacation. Get your day started right by taking a trip to Stawberry Alley Ale Works for some mouthwatering options. There are so many things that will be the perfect fuel for your day. After your stomach is nice and full, load up the family and take a trip to the City Forum. There are so many things for you to choose from that you will be gaming and having a blast for hours. They have go-carts, bowling, mini golf, laser tag, and some addicting arcade games. It will be fun for all ages. Day 4 If you have someone that is creative and hands-on in your family, then Day 4 is for them. Begin the day with a trip to the Customs House located at 200 S 2nd St, Clarksville. This museum is great for all ages. It has many hands-on exhibits that children adore. Grab a bite at Liberty Park Grille that is located at 125 Marina Way, Clarksville, before heading over to Liberty Park to enjoy the sunshine. They have walking trails and playgrounds that are great for a nice spring day. Finish the day with a trip to The Blank Slate by Blue Cord at 1812 Memorial Circle, Clarksville. Your entire family can get their hands dirty and create some gorgeous artwork and dĂŠcor pieces for your home. 6
Day 5 The Spring break activities started in Nashville, so it only makes sense to finish them there as well. With Nashville being the home of country music, then visitors have to swing by the Country Music Hall of Fame. It has so many magnificent artifacts and pieces of country music history. It can be found at 222 5th Ave S. Continue the day by taking a trip to The Parthenon. It is located at 2500 West End Ave, Nashville, and is a full-scale replica of the original Parthenon in Athens. How cool is that? It is located within a breath-taking park, so be sure to bring a ball or frisbee to play with too. To bring your vacation to a close, load up the car and take a trip to dine with some scaly fish friends. The Aquarium Restaurant at 516 Opry Mills Dr., lets you chow down on some tasty seafood while being surrounded by a huge fish tank. It is a unique experience that will not be forgotten.

Saint Patrick's Day Wreath
by Cheyenne Surkyn (The Crafting Soldier on Instagram) What you’ll need: (Materials for a 16" styrofoam wreath) Ornaments (78-80) • Mini Ornaments (60) Hot Glue • Hot Glue Gun Embellishments (St. Patrick's day pieces) 16" Styrofoam wreath Ribbon (for my wreath I used 24 inches) • Scissors

Cut your ribbon at a length you desire and loop it around the wreath. Proceed by tying the ends together making a loop that you can hang the wreath with. Then start taking the bigger ornaments and hot glue them to the styrofoam wreath until it's covered as best you can. Now take the mini ornaments and fill in the spaces to hide the rest of the styrofoam with hot glue. Then take the St. Patrick's day embellishments (or other embellishments you have) and glue them where you desire. Hang on a hook on your door and you now have a beautiful St. Patrick's day wreath!
‘Hi’ Spring Wreath
by Danielle Akers (SimpleMamaCreations on Facebook) What You'll Need: “Hi” wood wall decor • White Paint • Gorilla Hot Glue Hot Glue Gun • Vine Branch • Wreath Frame Fake Flowers • Greenery • Hemp String To begin, paint your word front and back. Start by taking apart all the flowers and greenery and place everything where you would want it to make sure you love the placement. Next, plug in your glue gun and place the hot glue in it until heated. Now is the time to adjust, simply put the stems of the flowers and greenery under some of the frames so it holds better. Once the glue gun is heated, place small spots of glue under the flowers and greenery so they cannot be seen. Now it's time to place your word. Take wire or a thick string and loop it around the word and the branches. Once that is done, place small amounts of glue to hold it in that spot. Once two parts of the word are placed on the wreath with the wire and some glue, find other parts of the word that touch the branches and place more small amounts of glue in that area. Then you are done.
Custom Tumblers
by Kaitlyn Lewis (Once Upon A Vinyl Treasures on Facebook) What You'll Need: Stainless Steel Tumbler with No Color or Coating • A Respirator Eye Protection • Gloves • Glitter • Paint • Tumbler Turner Epoxy (UV Preferred) • Cups • Spray Adhesive • Clear Spray Paint Tape • Stir Stick To begin you will need to prep your cup. This means that you need to sand down your cup, even if it is stainless steel, and paint it your base coat color. Once the paint is dry, if you plan on doing glitter, you need to spray the cup with your spray adhesive and apply the glitter. Tap the cup gently to knock out extra glitter on your cup. After waiting up to 3 hours after applying glitter you then need to spray the cup with light coats of clear spray paint to seal the glitter in place. If you are not using glitter skip this step. Now you need to tape off the inside of the cup around the rim to prevent the epoxy from getting inside it. Once the cup is sealed and taped off you need to place it on your turner and let it start spinning. With your cup on the turner, it's now time to get on your protective gear, meaning your respirator, eye protection, gloves. When you are fully suited up, it is time to mix your epoxy in a cup using 1:1 ratios of parts A and B. Depending on the brand of epoxy, it will say how long to mix and what temperature your room needs to be at. From there you will pour the epoxy on your tumbler and use your gloved hand to spread the epoxy around and smooth it out. Bonus if your epoxy is self-leveling. After applying epoxy onto your spinning tumbler and smoothing it out, you will need to let it spin for up to 24 hours. At the 24 hour mark, your cup should be completely dry to the touch. When it is completely dry you can remove it from your turner and remove the tape inside. Now keep in mind if your cup is not smooth or you feel glitter through the epoxy you will need to add more epoxy. While it takes 24 hours for the epoxy to "cure" to a hard-dry state it takes a complete 72 hours to be fully cured and ready for use. Make sure the epoxy you use is FDA compliant for food contact. Any other epoxy cannot be used on tumblers. If your epoxy is still tacky at 24 hours then your mixing ratio is off and you will need to strip your cup. DO NOT add more epoxy onto a sticky/tacky cup as it will release toxins and can get people sick. Please use epoxy in a well-ventilated area away from children and pets. 10

Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated by wearing green on March 17 of every year, but there is more to this Irish holiday than wearing green. The root of this holiday comes from Saint Patrick converting pagan Ireland to a Christian nation. The holiday was made an official Christian feast day in the early 17th century. Saint Patrick was said to have died on March 17, which is why the holiday falls on that date. The tradition of shamrocks hails from the story that Saint Patrick used the three-leaf shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish. Since the 1680s, green shamrocks and ribbons have been worn on Saint Patrick’s Day. According to History.com, Saint Patrick was born in Britain near the end of the fourth century. He was captured by a group of Irish raiders at age 16. During his time in captivity, he dealt with his loneliness and fear by turning to his religion. After six years in captivity, he escaped back to Britain. He then received a revelation from an angel, telling him to return to Ireland as a missionary. After studying for more than 15 years, he was ordained as a priest and sent to Ireland to help convert the Irish and minister to the Christians already living there. Since then, the holiday has evolved to also be a celebration of Irish and Irish American culture here in the United States. Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated in our country by wearing the color green, displaying shamrocks, eating, drinking, going to religious observances and attending parades. Most people wear green on this holiday and are given an affectionate “pinch” if seen not wearing it. Many cities in America celebrate the holiday by coloring their fountains and rivers green and many athletic teams will wear green jerseys in honor of the holiday. Artificially colored green beer is also served in celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day. Want some fun, Family-friendly suggestions for celebrating Saint 13

Patrick’s Day? Try eating all green foods such as green apples, green grapes, pesto pasta and broccoli. Let’s be sure to mention that all of these foods are super yummy and healthy! Have a green scavenger hunt; give your children a camera and have them take photos of green things in and around your home. You can make it more challenging by adding different shades of green or specific items to seek. You can also do any sort of craft, but be sure to use green! Use green paint, markers, crayons, whatever green art supplies are around your home, and you have all the right stuff for Saint Patrick’s Day craft time. On March 17, many people will say they feel “the luck of the Irish”. This comes from the idea of the four-leaved clover, or shamrock. Since the three leaves represent the Holy Trinity, the fourth leaf would represent God’s Grace, therefore making a four-leaf clover lucky. Western symbols for luck are different from other signs of luck around the world. All marks of luck have an interesting history as to why they are considered lucky.
Here are a few: Horseshoe: This is because a horseshoe is made by a blacksmith, and blacksmiths are considered lucky because they work with the elements of fire and iron.
Rabbit’s foot: Rabbits are considered lucky because they are associated with springtime and fertility. Rabbit’s back feet are the luckiest part of the body because when a rabbit runs, the back feet are ahead of the front feet.
Goldfish: Goldfish are lucky in many different cultures, including ancient Egypt, Greece, China and Japan. They are kept in bowls and ponds to bring good luck to homes and work places. The Egyptians and Greeks believed they were good for domestic relationships and situations, while the Chinese and Japanese believed they brought wealth and success.
Amber: This stone brings good luck because it is thought to strengthen auras and bring balance to the yin and yang.
Dolphins: Are considered lucky in many cultures including ancient Greece, Egypt, and Rome, by both Christians and Native Americans. This belief that dolphins are good luck comes from the idea that sailors at sea knew land was near when they spotted dolphins.
Acorn: A Nordic symbol of luck, youth, success and power, acorns most often represent spiritual power. The Norse placed acorns in their windowsills to protect their homes from lightening.
Rainbow: Another Irish symbol coming from the idea that there is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
Tigers: A luck symbol in Chinese astrology, tigers are thought be protectors from evils such as fires and being robbed.
Dream catchers: Thought to catch bad dreams by Native Americans, dream catchers are considered to bring good luck.
How will you celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day?

The Fort Campbell Spouses’ Club have partnered up with another amazing organization for this month’s luncheon, which is themed “Kentucky Derby, We’re Off to the Races!”. It will be held at Cole Park Commons on March 18th from 10:30am until 1:00pm. Fuel for Kids is a non-profit organization based in Clarksville that does not provide every meal a child needs, but helps provide supplementary food for when children aren’t in school. It is said that one in five children experience hunger daily in Tennessee. The free lunch they receive at school might be the only time these children will eat in a day. Fuel for Kids has stepped in to bring food to those same hungry children who suffer every day in the area, so that they don’t have to worry about when they will have their next meal. Their website states that they are “A food subsidization program designed to feed children whose only food source may be the food they are receiving at school. All across America children are going without food every weekend. That means for up to 67 hours each weekend school-age children are going without food. Most of these children are on state assistance however the food is not getting to the kids.” The organization works with local churches and businesses to collect food items they turn around and package into brown grocery bags. These bags are then delivered to Clarksville schools and the food is disseminated not by income, but to students showing signs of hunger. The program has been up and running for three years now, and it is truly making a difference. Please help us eliminate child hunger in our community by volunteering your time or by making a donation today. The Spouses’ Club is asking for donations of Pop-tarts, small boxes of cereal, pudding cups, Slim Jims, fruit cups and 100% juice boxes for the organization.

Being on a tight budget can become stressful around meal time. Sitting down and crunching numbers while planning out the grocery list can quickly become overwhelming. Thankfully, there are so many cheap options out there that can turn any meal into an affordable one. Making a few simple swaps on your weekly shopping trip can really add up in the long run.
Easy Swaps Did you know substituting ground turkey for ground beef in your dishes can cut costs by a few dollars? According to local grocery store prices, a pack of ground turkey is about half as much as beef. With the right spices, the swap can almost go unnoticed. A few recipes to try this swap in include spaghetti, tacos, and even tator tot casserole.
When shopping for your next chicken dish, grab a pack of boneless chicken thighs instead of chicken breast. Thighs can be used in any dish that calls for breast, and they cost significantly less per pound. They also tend to be juicer and easier to prepare.
If you are craving a nice salad, skip the bagged mix. When purchasing pre-cut products, you are paying a pretty penny for the convenience. Picking up a head of lettuce and preparing it yourself only takes a few seconds. Trust me, your bank account will thank you for this simple swap and you get way more bang for your buck.
Are you an oatmeal lover? If so, then you should know that those instant oatmeal packs are way more expensive than the plain containers of oats. Purchasing the plain option will not only lower your grocery bill, but it also allows you to be way more creative with your oatmeal recipes. There are also less processed sugars and additives in the bulk containers.
Almost every household in America has cheese somewhere in their fridge. It is a staple for many. But, in order to save a few bucks, it’s time to ditch the bags of pre-shredded goodness. Picking up a block of cheese and grating it yourself is so much more cost efficient. It can also give your dish a fresher taste.
Being a fruit lover can be difficult when your go-to sweet snack is out of season. When it is the wrong time of year, your favorite fruit can triple in price. When this happens, go check out the frozen aisle instead. Your wallet will thank you, and you also get to make some delicious smoothies. It is a win-win. 25
When a member of your family joins the military, you must prepare for multiple moves in the near future. For many soldiers, their first move comes only a few short months after they join the service. On average, a military family packs up and moves every few years. Packing and unpacking constantly can become very overwhelming for many individuals. After a few moves though, many households become relocation pros and develop a few tips and tricks. We are here to share those with you today. Having a few helpful hacks up your sleeve can turn your impending PCS into a breeze. Which ones do you plan on trying out?
Storing Important Documents Purchasing an accordion folder that you can label each individual tab can be a storage game-changer. Having folders that are categorized by Birth Certificates, Social Security Cards, Marriage Certificates, Tax Papers, Moving Documents and more can really keep these important papers close and organized.
Stock Up on Zip Lock Bags Ziplock bags are incredibly handy in a move. They are a great way to group together things like jewelry, cosmetic products, and dry foods. When everything is properly kept together and stored, it makes the unpacking process so much easier. Also remember, if you take something apart, tape the Ziplock bag that holds all the pieces to the bulk of the furniture so you don’t lose them.
Plan Meals Around Your Perishable Foods Having to throw away your entire freezer and fridge before a move can be painful. Groceries are expensive, so it can feel as if you’re literally throwing away money. That is why it is such a great idea to plan out meals two weeks before your big move that eats up a majority of these foods.
Closet Hack Having to take all of your clothes off the hangers to pack them up can seem daunting. Not only does it take forever, but your clothes get all wrinkled in the boxes. Instead, secure your clothes inside a trash bag while they are still on the hanger. Use a rubber band to tie together the hanger’s hooks to keep them from separating. Once you get to your new location, simply removed the bags and the bands and hang back up your clothes.
Colored Tape Dedicate each room of your house to a certain tape color. Only use that one color to tape up the boxes for that single room. Doing this will help make unpacking all of your boxes a breeze, because they will all be color coordinated for you.
Alternate Oven Mitt Uses Packing your sharp objects like your knives and scissors can get a little tricky. If they are not stored correctly, they can easily become a moving hazard. A simple hack to this problem is to store your sharp objects into your oven mitts. Just be sure you remember they are in there when it comes time to unpack.
Prevent Tangled Cords Did you know that you can reuse old toilet paper and paper towel holders in your move? Just wrap your computer, TV, printer, and phone cords up with them to help prevent tangles. Who wants to spend their first night in their new home battling tangled electrical cords?

Have you ever thought about putting down the electronics for one full weekend? For many families, that task is harder than it sounds. Research reveals that over 80% of cell phone users feel that they couldn’t make it an entire day without their phones. Other studies indicate that many mobile cell phone users check their phones every 6.5 minutes. Another research study said that the average television user watches over 144 hours of TV a month. These statics tell us something that many of us already know. Families across the globe are addicted to technology. Dedicating one weekend to completely unplug and put away the electronics can be extremely beneficial to the entire family. Technology addiction is real, but fixing the issue is possible.
Fight the Fear of Missing Out Setting down the phone helps you battle FOMO, which is also known as The Fear of Missing Out. FOMO is a newly discovered psychological disorder brought on by the massive increase in telephone addiction. The longer someone is away from their phones or the bigger their notifications list grows, a panic tends to set in. The more sucked into our phones we are, the more fear of missing out controls our lives. Unplugging for a weekend helps fight this feeling of anxiety and helps you enjoy the moment a lot more. Memory Creation The memories that will follow you for your entire lifespan typically are not filled with endless Facebook scrolling. They are filled with activities and events that are happening in the world around you. If you are sucked into your phone, these amazing events tend to pass you bye. Set down the video games and social media platforms and step outside. Bond as a family this weekend instead of binge watching another show on Netflix. Better Sleep For many people the weekends are a great time to catch up on some sleep. However, your cell phone may prevent that from happening. Many heavy cell phone users actually suffer from insomnia. Just think of all the hours you’ve spent lying in bed just scrolling on your phone instead of actually sleeping. When you limit technology use in the bedroom, you can greatly improve your length and quality of sleep. Understand the Problem You won’t know if you have a technology addiction unless it gets taken away. If you have direct access to it at all times, you will continue to reach for it. Test out your addiction by putting away the devices and discover just how strong the pull to return to them truly is. It may be shocking to you. 31
