Cole Park Golf Course is one of the hidden gems of Fort Campbell. Located at 1610 101st Airborne Division Road, just inside Gate 1, the course runs between Gate 1 and Gate 10 and is visible from facilities in both areas. We are open to the public and many Soldiers and Family members find enjoyment and relaxation on our greens. Cole Park is an 18-hole golf course features tree-lined fairways, rolling hills, with bent grass greens and bermuda grass fairways. The gently rolling land and the abundance of both hardwood and evergreens, make the course picturesque throughout the year. The course offers four sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all ages and abilities - Championship, Men’s, Senior’s, and Ladies. Our driving range is a great place for players of all skill levels to work on their swing before hitting the course and it has a practice bunker for players looking to warm up or work on their sand play. For those needing to work on their short game, there is a large putting green and a chipping/pitching green. In addition, Cole Park offers a practice area across the street with three short holes providing an additional opportunity for players to work on their game. If you would like to improve your game, we offer one-on-one lessons taught by Cole Park Golf Course Manager and PGA Master Professional David Normand. Lessons are available for players of all skill levels as well as group lessons and clinics.
The course is laid out in a manner that allows golfers to go from the driving range to the first tee, all within sight of the golf shop staff. The “turn,” is made at the clubhouse, allowing time for golfers to purchase food and beverages. The round continues with the number 10 tee being just east of the cart barn and finishes on what is, perceived by many as a great finishing hole. The routing, amenities, signage and markings all complement the course and aid in making your golf outing as relaxing as possible. The clubhouse features a golf shop, the 19th Hole Snack Bar, and there is a restaurant on the second level. The Cole Park Golf Shop offers a wide variety of merchandise for men and women from course sets including putters, irons, wedges, and woods to apparel, shoes, hats, golf balls, gloves, tees, towels, sunglasses, rental sets, and more. Also, located in the Golf Shop is the front counter where patrons pay for their golf shop purchases as well as check-in for rounds of golf and the driving range. The 19th Hole Snack Bar is open seasonally and offers quick and easy food and beverage selections. The restaurant upstairs serves lunch Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and offers a beautiful view of the course.

A Soldier receivers customer service at the Cole Park Commons Golf Shop. Some of the continuing improvement projects are a completed renovation of all bunkers including reshaping, installation of new drain tile, new liners, new ‘preferred’ white sand, and re-grassing of all surrounds with Meyer’s Zosia Grass along with a new patio that was built with a scoreboard/scoring area that will accommodate 150 players, all in 2012. In 2013, Cole Park installed a new state of the art irrigation system that had an extremely positive effect on turf conditions. Also in 2013, new cart paths were installed and a new maintenance facility was built. In 2014, the maintenance facility was completed and we built a gazebo to cover the patio, creating a nice place for golfers to sit near the scoring area. The gazebo is also the perfect setting for outdoor barbeques and special events. The management team consists of a Golf Professional/Business Manager
and a Golf Course Superintendent. The Golf Professional/Business Manager is a PGA of America ‘Master Professional’ with over 25 years of experience at this position. He is very well versed in the rules of golf and assists patrons in learning the game. He continues to stay abreast of the ever-changing golf environment by annually attending continuing education programs offered by the PGA of America. The Golf Course Superintendent has twelve years of experience at his position and he belongs to golf superintendent professional organizations as a way to share and obtain knowledge from his fellow peers. Whether you are a seasoned golfer or someone new to the game - we would love for you to become part of the Cole Park Golf Course “Family!” For current pricing and hours of operation, please visit www.campbell.armymwr.com or call (270) 798-4906.

Baby’s First Solid Food By Deanna Mira Jones
As a new mother, I love experiencing new things with my baby. Our latest venture has been eating solid food. A dear friend of mine who is pregnant with her first child asked me a slew of questions about what it has been like to feed Lucas and I realized that many new mommies may be just as confused. The biggest lesson I have learned about being a mother is that you have to experience it for yourself or listen to the advice of more knowledgeable mothers. So here are the questions she asked me and I answered them from my perspective as a new mother and I hope it helps any other new mommies out there: 1. When and how did you make the decision to start feeding Lucas something other than breast milk? He became very aware of the fact that we were all eating and he wasn’t. He attempted to grab my cup, spoon, sandwich and anything else out of my hand. I spoke with the doctor and at four months they gave me the clear to start him on cereal mixed with breast milk. We got into the habit of giving him cereal each night when we had dinner so he felt more included. 2. What was the first food you fed him? Why this food? What was his reaction? The first real food he had was at five months and it was prunes. He had been a little constipated so I wanted to give him something to help him go naturally, something that wouldn’t be too harsh on his system. I mixed half a jar of prunes with cereal to give it a thicker consistency. I tried a bite to be fair, and it was awful! He, however, loved them and cried when they were all gone

3. What challenges have you had feeding Lucas food? So far we haven’t had any real challenges. Surprisingly he has loved every food we have introduced to him. He is also a very good eater when it comes to using a spoon so he really doesn’t make (too) much of a mess. Our biggest problem is when the food runs out; I swear he would eat two jars a night if I let him.
4. What is his favorite food? I think that his favorite food so far has been peas. In my opinion these are the worst because they are bitter and have no flavor, but he absolutely loves them. 5. Which is easier? Feeding him milk or food? Giving him a bottle is less work, but giving him food each night is much for enjoyable. It may be messy but he lights up each time he takes a bite and it’s amazing to see him try to put the spoon in his mouth all by himself. Warning – giving the baby the spoon makes a huge mess – but it’s worth the mess to see him smile. 6. What is the next step for Lucas and his feeding? We have mostly stuck to vegetables at this point. In a month or two, I will move him on to fruits but I wanted him to establish a good eating habit before we brought in the sweet tasting foods. I was worried that if I gave him sweets (fruit) from the start he wouldn’t want to try the more bitter or bland tasting veggies.
7. When do you start feeding him meat? This all depends on what his doctor says. During his next appointment, we will discuss when I can start introducing meat into his diet but typically it is not until eight to 10 months old. A lot of people have different opinions on when and what babies should eat but I would rather check with the doctor before trying something totally new. 8. What about foods children are typically allergic to, like peanut butter? I know that babies are not supposed to have whole milk, eggs, honey and peanut butter. You should wait until they are at least a year old before letting babies try these foods because there is a high risk allergies. Again, I highly recommend talking to your doctor before you give your baby any new food items. 9. What does your husband, parents and brother, who are frequently involved in helping with Lucas’ meals, think about feeding Lucas solid food? Everyone is very excited and supportive. My dad is impatient he can't wait for Lucas to have cookies, ice cream and all the yummy stuff. My husband likes that we now have dinner together and Lucas gets to have his veggies with us 10. Any advice for mothers about to start feeding their own baby food? One thing I have done that I feel is important is spacing out what you give him. I give Lucas on new food item a week, and then I stop for the weekend so he has time to adjust to it; that way if he has a reaction I will know exactly what it was to. I also got some of

It sounds gross but man has it been a lifesaver in the clean-up process! You just rinse them off in the sink and you’re done! I truly hope that any new mommy tackling the task of feeding their baby food takes the time to not only research but visit their child’s doctor first! This can be
wonderful bonding experience for you and your baby but it can’t be a great experience without it being a safe one, so again, please schedule regular appointments with a doctor. Any new parents can also visit Army Community Service’s New Parent Support Program for plenty of tips and advice for any step in the parenting process. A Great Outlet for Community By Aaron Lax
Fort Campbell Roller Hockey Club members practice on a sunny afternoon.
“Let’s go, center it! Look up, look up, look up! Boards! Boards! Boards! One hard, one hard! Go point! Swoop! Crack! Thud! You ok man? Haha, yeah I’m good. It’s just hockey.” These are the sounds you will hear if you join and play with the Fort Campbell Roller Hockey Club. At this club, you will find a group of Soldiers and veterans, beginners and amateurs alike, coming together to enjoy a game of hockey. The sport even draws community members from Hopkinsville and Nashville looking to get more time in the rink. This organization was founded, formed, and managed by Darron Miller - a former Soldier now medically retired. The Army attracts Soldiers from all walks of life. Some from the South, some from the East and West coasts. In these areas of the country, football, baseball, and basketball dominate the sporting industry. Yet, a large portion of Fort Campbell hails from the Northeast, Midwest, and Northwest. For some, you won’t find this group of people sporting National Football League, National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball apparel in the winter time. You’ll find this demographic sporting New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks, and Detroit Redwings jerseys. And with the huge interest generated by the Nashville Predators at Fort Campbell, a large portion of Fort Campbell residents

proudly wear the Nashville blue and gold. In short, Fort Campbell loves hockey. For the Soldier athlete though, hockey was a large part of their life before the Army. Playing hockey was their Family pastime. Playing on frozen ponds in Minnesota, hitting the ice indoors in downtown Chicago, and even getting wheels on hard pavement in Georgia are all reflections of good memories for the Soldiers of Fort Campbell. These memories have stayed with them as Soldiers seek for the opportunity to play hockey any chance they get. Hockey Saves Inc. is a Nashville based organization that is focused on using hockey to bring Soldiers and former Soldiers and service members closer together. The Nashville Sled Preds, also a Nashville based organization, provides opportunities for disabled Veterans to get time on the ice and enjoy a great game of hockey. Groups like this, however, are located south of Nashville and are quite a drive for our Soldiers on Fort Campbell. That’s what inspired Darron Miller to found the

group here at Fort Campbell. The group was founded in the summer of 2015 and started off with only a handful of members; 13 to be precise. After nine months of the group’s existence, the group has expanded to 57 members. It is normal for the group to have a full three hour scrimmage with full five man lines and substitutions to boot. Several members have commented on the club’s Facebook page and give their testimonials about their experience with club. The group is not without challenges though. Continuous transitions of members out of the Army and to other posts requires that the club continue to recruit and advertise. We need participation in order to be successful. Every now and then, a club member will bump into someone who says they are interested in hockey. The member will ask, “Have you ever heard of the Fort Campbell Roller Hockey Club?” to which the response has been no. If you are interested, you only need a stick and inline skates to get started. No padding required. The scrimmages are casual and fun. We have several trips planned off-post to scrimmage against other teams in the area as well as enjoy nicer playing facilities. The group’s current goal is to solidify a team in the spring for Nashville’s Inline Roller Hockey league. The Fort Campbell Roller Hockey Club meets every Saturday at noon. For more information contact Aaron Lax, Club Administrator at ajlax0611@email.campbell.edu or check out the Facebook page, Fort Campbell Roller Hockey Club.

Before taking your dog to the park: 1)
Play nice with others and know your dog’s temperament. Dogs tend to be less territorial when they are on neutral ground. However, there still may be some dogs that display aggressive behaviors and fights can still occur.
2)
Keep your dog current with the required vaccinations/immunizations and wear their rabies tag with a collar at all times. Only healthy dogs should go to the dog parks.
3)
Size matters. Puppies do not read adult dog body language and may miss warning signs given off by an older dog. They should be grouped with each other according to size and age.
4)
Your dog’s behavior is a reflection of you, and your pet’s training.
5)
A poop free park is a happy park. Always clean up after your pet. Dog feces contain “hitchhikers” like roundworms and/or hookworms that can cause infectious diseases.
6)
Stay alert and aware of your surroundings. Just because a dog is friendly, does not mean the dog will not bite if they feel threatened, or the need to protect themselves or their owner.
7)
Supervise children at all times. Dogs can sometimes become overly excited and easily knock down children while playing. Children must be at least 10 years of age to enter the fenced in areas.
The Fort Campbell MWR Dog Parks were created because military Families voiced their desire to have a safe and friendly place to bring their dogs. With two dog parks to serve the residents of Fort Campbell, man’s best friend now has a place to exercise, socialize, and strengthen the bond between owner and dog in a controlled environment. All systems are ‘go’ for the 14th annual Rivers & Spires Festival, April 14 -16 in Downtown Clarksville. At this award winning, free festival, visitors will enjoy five stages of live entertainment with over 100 performers during the three days. Truly an event for the whole Family. Festival-goers can enjoy children’s activities, arts vendors, a car show, military exhibits, shopping and so much more. And did we mention it’s all free? Country music artist and reality star Kellie Pickler will headline the Public Square stage at 7:30 p.m. and Dove awarding artist Plumb will headline the Christian stage at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 15. The free music, entertainment and activities do not stop there. The weekend kicks off on Thursday, April 14 with the Beaver Country Songwriter Showcase on the Public Square stage. The Showcase features three superstar songwriters: Casey Beathard, Phil O’Donnell and Jimmy Melton. Opening for the Country Songwriter Showcase is the winner of the Beaver Country Songwriter. Another local talent search is the Last Band Standing. Hear the Midsouth’s best rock bands battle it out on Friday and Saturday night to earn the title of Last Band Standing. The most popular area, the award-winning Family Fun Zone hosted by First Baptist Church, has fantastic activities for kids from toddlers to teens, located along Hiter and Commerce Streets. You will find over 60 free events to enjoy including music, inflatables, performers, demonstrations, face painting, games and numerous kinds of interactive booths. Steve Weeks and Gene Cordova are the featured kid’s entertainers to include playful shows, audience participation, humor, and magic that makes for a memorable experience at any age. Toddler
Town offers rotating activities and entertainers as well as soft play mats and inflatables geared especially for the little ones. Burn off some energy at the Festival with Gamez on Wheelz Laser Tag located on Third Street. Children and groups will show off their floats and ‘Superhero’ themed costumes during the Annual Children’s Parade. Come cheer on the parade participants at 1 p.m on Saturday, April 15. Children of all ages will also love meeting their favorite Superheroes, Mascots and the 501st Legion’s Star Wars characters who will wander the area. For the gamer in your life, CDE Lightband will again host their nearly infamous Fast Fiber Gaming Area. The underground parking garage located off of Franklin Street will be transformed into a modern day arcade, packed full of console and pc games for participants to play. Fiber Fast Gaming is open to all ages at certain times of the day. As the maturity level of the games increase, age limits to enter the area will be strictly enforced. Contests and tournaments will be going on throughout the festival. The Sports Zone hosted by Fortera Credit Union is filled with activities and booths geared especially for the sports enthusiast. Open on Friday, April 15, from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturday, April 16, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., APSU and local youth sports leagues will have mini-clinics in a variety of sports. Located nearby is The Rivers & Spires Arm Wrestling Tournament where men, women and children will have the opportunity to prove their strength and walk away with some cash or trophy prizes. This competition is the largest in Tennessee with over 200 competitors making this the perfect tournament for both the novice and professional alike. Military Zone will include some of Fort Campbell’s authentic displays. Active duty Soldiers will give Festival-goers the opportunity to experience being a soldier by trying on gear, checking out military vehicles and participating in interactive exhibits.
