Feeding Children 7 Days a Week The Fort Campbell Spouses’ Club always shares the stories of amazing local charities with its members and the community, and they would like to put the spotlight on Project F.U.E.L. this month. Project F.U.E.L. is a non-profit organization based in Clarksville that does not provide every meal a child needs, but helps provide supplementary food for when children aren’t in school. It is said that one in five children who experience hunger daily in Tennessee, the free lunch they receive at school might be the only time these children will eat in a day. Project F.U.E.L. has stepped in to bring food to those same hungry children who suffer every day in the area, so that they don’t have to worry about when they will have their next meal. “Project F.U.E.L. is a food subsidization program designed to feed those children whose only food source may be the food they are receiving at school,” the website reads. “History shows children fed by our program experience increased academic scores, are better citizens in the classroom and are more likely to come to school every day.” The organization works with local churches and businesses to collect food items they turn around and package into brown grocery bags. These bags are then delivered to Clarksville schools and the food is disseminated not by income, but to students showing signs of hunger. More than 40 Montgomery county churches work with Project F.U.E.L. year-round to collect food items and organizations like the Clarksville Association of Realtors, CAR, hosts an annual F.U.E.L. fundraiser whose proceeds help the non-profit operating costs. The Fort Campbell Spouses’ Club will be holding a luau on Wednesday, May 15, at Cole Park Commons. They will be awarding their chosen recipients with their annual scholarships and community grants during the luncheon. Every year, they offer two scholarships to the dependent spouses and children of active duty, retired, or deceased military personnel. They also award grants to local 501(c)3 non-profit organizations and schools in the Fort Campbell Area. This will be the last luncheon of the fiscal year that the Spouses’ Club will host, so make sure you come out and attend, you don’t want to miss it. 16

Marshmallow Vodka Infusion Marshmallows Vodka Chop up marshmallows into small pieces (this speeds up the process). Put marshmallows into a French press. Pour vodka into the press over the marshmallows, until full, and set aside for at least 12 hours, possibly 24. Now that the marshmallows have melted into the vodka, spoon out the layer of white residue that has formed on top of the liquid mixture. Press the plunger on the French press to strain it some more. Pour the mixture into a flask or other closed container for storage.
