Crawl through mud, climb obstacles fortcampbellmwrlife@gmail.com and just have a generally good time. What to look forward to: The Artillery Grille opening. Manager’s Choice Hawaiian Pizza and Grilled Chicken Wrap (but both with a twist). I like to take the Hawaiian pizza and substitute ham for bacon, then when it comes out of the oven, drizzle BBQ sauce on it. For the Grilled Chicken Wrap, I like to add bacon and nacho cheese in the inside of the wrap. Non-altered menu item: 1/4lb cheeseburger combo with tots.

I love the new “Turn Burger”, it is absolutely delicious and easy to eat without making a mess as I make the turn from the front nine to the back nine! 1st Sergeant Greg Corbitt

The Artillery Grill, formerly known as the Dawg Haus, is getting a major renovation. Not only is the inside getting redone but the menu is getting a makeover as well. What sort of food can you look forward to at the Artillery Grill? Waffles! Savory waffles, fruit waffles, and sweet waffles for breakfast and then for lunch you can get a waffle sandwich. Who doesn’t love a waffle? We want to bring you something different from the same old but still delicious. Of course, there will be other options besides waffles but we hope you enjoy this fun, new twist of having a variety of waffle options. When can you expect the Artillery Grill to open? Any decent makeover takes time. We are working as quickly as we can and have made a lot of progress but we want this renovation to be just right. We will be opening soon so keep an eye out on our social media and our website at Campbell.armymwr.com for more information. We have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, just search FortCampbellMWR.

“I would just like to commend Rich Corbin and his staff over at Cole Park Commons and Eagle Catering for doing such a great job for the Fort Campbell Spouse’s Club. We’ve hosted two big events over there this month and Rich has been nothing but accommodating and great to work with! Feedback was taken graciously after the first event and was applied to the second event to make improvements for a great overall evening. Even as we were submitting information at the last minute, they still made it happen! Not to mention all that CPC has done for us to ensure our monthly membership luncheons are successful. I look forward to continuing a great working relationship with Rich and his staff for future events. “ For more information: 270-798-4610 or campbell.armymwr.com/programs/cole-park-eatery

Don’t Miss Out...MWR Support for Unit Events! What are MWR Unit Funds? MWR Unit Funding is the monetary support of units through MWR at the installation to which the military personnel is assigned. The funding includes locally funded dividends which are allocated based upon authorized troop strength at the beginning of each fiscal year. The rate is determined by the installation’s DFMWR NAF Services Division (NSD) Chief. The other type of funding is Army Level Requirements (ALR) unit funding which is allocated to the brigades/separate tenant units for Soldiers during deployment. How do you access MWR Unit Funds? The commanding officer for each brigade/separate tenant unit will appoint an active duty Soldier as the Unit Fund Manager; the Unit Fund Manager will submit the unit fund requests to the MWR Accounting Office for review upon approval. The Unit Fund Manager will coordinate with the MWR Unit Fund Administrator to make payments when funds are available. Unit funds must be used for off-duty leisure activities that promote the unit’s morale and the cohesion of all military personnel; guests are welcome at the events at the discretion of the Soldiers. All activities supported by unit funding must be related to MWR. Where can you use MWR Unit Funds? MWR will be the unit’s first choice vendor when requesting funding through MWR Unit Funds, unless MWR is unable to provide the services. MWR unit funding may be used for catered events at Cole Park Commons, the Warrior Zone, the Smokehaus, the Artillery Grille and Hooper Bowling Center Grille. Due to proximity of Valor Hall in Oak Grove, Kentucky, MWR unit funding may be requested to pay for catering services through Cole Park Commons Eagle Catering, Warrior Zone or Smokehaus. MWR Unit Funds may not be used to support Family readiness group functions (FRG), MWR programs that are authorized by appropriated funds, change of command/retirement ceremonies, and awards ceremonies in conjunction with mission exercises, protocol functions, and any other event for select individuals or a group. campbell.armymwr.com/us/campbell/programs/mwr-unit-funds Regulations that support Unit Funds: AR 215-1 • SOP for 101st MWR Unit Funds

Outdoor

recreation

There are plenty of great ways to enjoy Outdoor Recreation this summer. Outdoor Recreation has an indoor climbing wall to help you beat the heat. Open climbs are held a few times a month but they are also available for birthday parties and reservation. Love to shoot? Outdoor Recreation also has archery, paintball and skeet shooting. Open play for paintball is Fridays and Sundays from 4 p.m. to sunset and since the sun goes down later in the summer that means more time to play. Archery may sound intimidating if you are a newcomer to the sport but thankfully Outdoor Recreation offers lessons. From sunrise to sundown, whether you are a beginner or advanced you can get out there and practice shooting your bow. The skeet range is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and also offers gun rentals so even if you don’t own a gun, you can still enjoy the sport. Need equipment to enjoy the outdoors? Check out Gear To Go. We are the premier facility for all your fun time needs. From boat rentals, to campers, to toy haulers, to inflatables, vehicles and much more. Gear to Go has boats of all sizes from kayaks to pontoons big enough for the whole Family. The best part? You can rent for a day, the weekend or a whole week so that gives plenty of options for your vacation. Need something to haul it with? Gear To Go has many different trailer sizes for whatever size boat you rent. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How long is the course? About 5K. Can I walk? The course is not timed so walking is welcome. Just make sure to register. What types of obstacles are available? Visit our facebook page at Fort Campbell MWR and check out the album from last year to see the different obstacles that are offered. You can also see a route map on the event page for this year’s event. Any tips for a first timer? We recommend wearing moisture wicking material. Leave all belongings you don’t want to take a chance getting wet and/or muddy in your vehicle. Several towels are recommended to cover your car seat after the race. Make sure you are well hydrated prior, during and after the race. Is there an exact address or easy directions? We suggest coming in Gate 4 (or get on Screaming Eagle Boulevard if you are already on post) and follow it to Market Garden (Range Road). The parking will be next to the Air Assault School. Will there be somewhere I can see pictures of the event? Yes, our Fort Campbell MWR Facebook page is the best place to go for photos. We try to get photos from the event up the same day. You are also more than welcome to submit your own photos.

by Harold Owens, ACS EFMP Social Services Representative You may notice that your children share information with you differently as they grow. A baby communicates solely by crying and it is up to you, the parent, to decipher what your infant needs. As your children grow, they may become better communicators but may actually talk to you less about their feelings because they're learning to sort out feelings on their own. Use the following age guide to inspire casual conversation with your child:

Age birth to 1 year

Conversations during your baby's first year may be a bit one sided, but don't let that discourage you. Just the sound of your voice can be nurturing to your baby. As your baby begins to make sounds and eventually form words, be sure to be attentive and even repeat these words back to your child as a primitive form of communication.
