Not only is the gorgeous fall season starting up, but so is another great time of year. That’s right, football season. Football season is a time of year that many people look forward to year-round. Nothing beats gathering together with loved ones and friends every weekend in hopes of cheering your favorite teams to victory. But, watching your favorite team isn’t the only greet thing about football season. With football season comes the good old-fashioned tailgate parties. That is why we asked a few military spouses what their “must-haves” are when they show up to tailgate. This is what they had to say. “You can’t have a tailgate party without beer. It is always the staple beverage. If you don’t have beer at your party, you’re doing it wrong.” – Melissa from Texas “One thing that I always hope someone makes at a football party is ribs! My Dad always made ribs on the weekends. It really makes game day feel complete for me.” – Brandy from Nevada “Buffalo chicken dip all the way. I always bring a crock pot full to every party I attend and there is never any left, so I guess people agree with me.” - Ashley from Georgia
“I like the basic hamburger and hotdog setup. It is a classic gameday food for a reason! Nothing beats a good burger before kickoff.” - Rose from Kentucky 17
“I always bring wine to any party we are invited too. Wives are typically very thankful that I do! Beer is not appreciated by all.” - Anne from Florida
“I love to make jalapeno poppers for my tailgate parties. It is jalapenos with cream cheese and bacon. Everyone always seems to love them. It is just so easy to grab them and go. They are very simple to make too.” – Grace from Louisiana.
“Any kind of chips and dip will make me happy. I will hover around that dip bowl the entire party.” - Rita from Texas
“How has nobody said chicken wings yet? You can’t have a party without chicken wings. You can’t beat the ones you get from Chinese restaurants.” - Nicole from Tennessee
“I’m a sweets lover so I always hope someone has brought something sweet. Brownies and cookies make me so happy on gameday. I’ve made brownie shaped footballs before!” - Hannah from South Carolina

Sure they are stored on your phone and maybe even on the cloud, but do you want to take a chance on loosing those precious memories? Photos are something that are passed down for generations, and each one tells a remarkable story. Unfortunately, many people can easily lose all those pictures and videos in an instant. Accidents happen, and a cell phone can easily become lost or damaged. If you haven’t been finding another way to store the photos, it can be almost impossible to get all of them back if something was to happen to your phone. That is why you need to check out some of these methods that can help preserve the cherished photos.

There is a special day that is right around the corner that is dedicated to celebrating some of the best people in your life. That’s right, your Grandparents. National Grandparent’s Day is September 8 and it’s a day to remind your loved ones that you care. For many military families, getting to visit Grandparents is a rare but amazing treat. It can be very difficult for our loved ones to watch their Grandchildren grow from a distance. Many families find themselves separated by thousands of miles and sometimes even oceans. So, this year make sure to bring a smile to their faces by giving them a phone call and maybe even this adorable craft. It takes only minutes to make, can easily be mailed, and is sure to be treasured by Grandparents everywhere. It will also give your children something fun to do, and that is always a bonus.
A Mighty Hug Craft Needed Supplies: Paper Markers String Scissors Tape Paint Instructions: 1. Gather all of your supplies. 2. Pick out your favorite colored markers and begin writing the quote on construction or printer paper. It reads “Here is a great big hug from your little cuddle bug. Just know that I love you so and I hope this brings smiles across many miles!” If your child is of writing age, then allow them to get creative and change up the quote anyway that they may like. It is always nice to add personal touches to crafts. 3. Next, pick out your child’s favorite paint color and paint up their precious little hands. This is most children’s favorite step. 4. Place their hands on a separate sheet of paper. Make sure to help them press down firmly to ensure the paint transfers nicely. 5. Allow the paint prints to dry, and then proceed to cut them out. 6. Get a piece of string and cut it about 12 inches long. Tape one side of the string to the left handprint, and the other end to the right. 7. Sign and date your child’s masterpiece and send it on its way. The awaiting Grandparents are going to love this special treat and it is sure to make it onto the fridge. 29

Dealing with Deployment by Alex Zapetis
We are nearing the end of this deployment, and my little family is anxiously awaiting my husband’s return. The more and more I think about having him home again, the bigger the butterflies get. I am so ready for our lives to go back to normal. Soon, I will be making his favorite meals again, and tripping over those combat boots in the middle of the night. Who would have thought that I would miss almost falling on my face every night? I’ve been trying to plan out menu items and grocery lists that cater directly to him. After 9 months of going without his favorites, I think he deserves this. I’m going to be in the kitchen a lot leading up to his return. I really hope he enjoys the cheesecake and Oreo truffles. He is going to be tired of sugar after about the first week home. Of course, I am going to have his favorite beer waiting in the fridge for him as well. One thing I have been worried about for the majority of this deployment is how my two boys are going to react to having Daddy home again. They were both really young when he left, so we have both been afraid that they are going to be pretty confused when he gets back. Luckily, I have been showing them tons of pictures of their “Dada” daily, and they still hear his voice during phone calls. We are preparing ourselves for initial shyness though. I’m certain they will warm up quickly to him. My husband is an amazing father and will have these boys wrapped around his finger again in no time. Its been so long since I’ve seen my husband that I often wonder if I am going to be shy around him at first as well. I’m a naturally shy person, and I feel like I will have a few “first date” nerves again when I see him at first. Just thinking about wrapping my arms around him again makes me smile ear to ear. If you are nearing the end of a deployment as well, congratulations! You did it! It is almost over, and I am sure you learned something about yourself in this experience. Deployments are hard, but they have a way of making you tougher in the process. Chances are, you are not the same person that you were 9 months ago. You’re stronger now, and that is something to be proud of. To anyone that has a deployment beginning soon, just know that you will be okay. The first few months will be the hardest. But, rest assured, it does and will get easier as the months go by. It’s only temporary pain, and your soldier will be home before you know it. Use the 9 months to learn something about yourself. Chase after a goal or dream. It really helps make the months go by a little faster. Stay strong, everyone. Deployments are only small little hiccups in your entire earthly timeline.

Clarksville, Tennessee’s annual Welcome Home Veterans Celebration continues to expand and broaden its appeal with more activities and exhibits that celebrate our veterans, active-duty military and first responders. The 2019 culmination of events, which will be held September 18-22, is adding two top-scale exhibits that you won’t want to miss. “This event was founded to honor and welcome home Vietnam Veterans,” said Visit Clarksville Chairman Kyle Luther. “While that will always be the core focus, we want to continually add more activities and exhibits that will also recognize veterans from other conflicts, and help our citizens appreciate the service and sacrifice of all of our servicemen and women.” The two exhibits joining the foray in the 2019 event are the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit and the Traveling Korean War Memorial. An added activity is the Friday evening Memorial Mile Walk. The 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit is a tribute to all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The memorial provides interactive education; including artifacts such as steel beams from the towers, documentary videos, and recordings of first responder radio transmissions. Interactive guided tours are carried out by FDNY firefighters who provide firsthand accounts of the day and its aftermath. Tours are limited, so please register in advance at eventbrite.com/e/welcome-home-veterans-celebration-911never-forget-mobile-exhibit-tickets-65761521481. The Traveling Korean War Memorial, a replica of the Washington D.C. memorial, consists of 19 soldiers walking through a Korean rice paddy and three soldiers off to the side setting up a campfire. On Friday evening, a memorial one-mile walk will take place around the Beachaven grounds, encompassing all the event’s exhibits.
Returning activities for the Celebration Week include the following activities: All exhibits and activities are held at Beachaven Winery, 1100 Dunlop Lane, unless otherwise noted.

2nd Battalion - 502d Infantry Regiment Iraqi Freedom This monument is to remember and honor the brave men of the 2nd Battalion 502nd Infantry Regiment, previously titled the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, that gave their lives to protect this country during Operation Iraqi Freedom. They truly gave the ultimate sacrifice in order to protect their beautiful country. The war began on March 19, 2003 by President George W. Bush. The President made the announcement that Operation Iraqi Freedom’s main goal was to rid Iraq of its dictator, Saddam Hussein. It was also used to get rid of Iraq’s ability to store and create their deadly weapons. Operation Iraqi Freedom was led by U.S. Army General Tommy Franks, and over 248,000 United States soldiers were deployed to Iraq. Unfortunately, more than 4,412 honorable men and women lost their lives in this battle.

The 502nd was called into battle in 2003, and they deployed to Iraq. Colonel Joe Anderson's brigade was chosen to provide infantry support to the 3rd Infantry Division during the war. After a year, they returned home after having fought in the key battles of South Al Hillah, Mosul, Karbala, and Najaf. While deployed, it is said that the 502nd played a huge role in the rebuilding of Mosul, Iraq. Their motto is “Strike, I fight where I am told, and win where I fight.” The war continued on for 8 long years before coming to an end on Dec 18, 2011. The Iraq War had the fifth-longest US combat force participation before ending. These brave soldiers have fallen, but they will never be forgotten. We thank them for their sacrifice and commitment to this country. Please take a moment to remember these 24 soldiers, and may they rest in peace.
