2 tablespoons vegetable oil • 3 lbs flank steak • 1 onion chopped 2 fresh limes • 1 bundle of cilantro • 1 teaspoon salt • 1 teaspoon pepper 1⁄2 stick butter • 16 mini corn or flour tortillas
September is National Hispanic Heritage Month, and Clarksville is bringing you the perfect way to celebrate. On September 18, there will be an unbelievable festival that you are not going to want to miss. The festival will be at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center, Clarksville.
Thinly slice the steak and chop it into bite size pieces. Brown the steak in the oil on your skillet. Add half the onions to the skillet and cook until soft, and season with salt and pepper. Squeeze the juice of two fresh limes over the meat and onion mixture. Continue cooking until the meat is cooked. While the steak is cooking, melt the butter in another pan. Fry the mini corn tortillas in the melted butter for 1 minute until they are soft. You can also use flour tortillas and heat them in the oven if you prefer. Allow them to cool slightly. Spoon the meat mixture on the tortillas. Top with cilantro, and fresh onions, and serve with limes.

My last renovation tip is utilize the power of peel and stick. Peel and stick kitchen backsplashes and wallpaper can completely transform your space. It adds such a fun pop of color or pattern. It is a great way to show your personality in your space. Spicing up your space doesn’t have to be pricey and daunting. Go slow, do room by room, and your home will be a breath of fresh air in no time.
It is important to realize that paint isn’t just for your walls and doors! Painting cabinets throughout your home and updating the hardware can spring your kitchen forward by many decades. This journey has also taught me that tile and tub paint exist. Who knew? A fresh coat of tile paint is turning my bright yellow 70’s bathroom into a bright mid-century modern oasis. Another great tip on how to update your space for cheap is switching out the light fixtures! Believe it or not, your light fixtures can really date a space. Amazon has been a life saver for me in this category. They have modern fixtures for under $50. Do one room at a time and work your way through your home. For fans, check out discount stores like Ollie’s and Dirt Cheap. I’ve seen fans for half price at multiple locations.
Renovating your home on a budget doesn’t have to seem impossible. With everyone’s budget tightening, and construction materials being on back order, updating your home to your liking is a little more stressful right now.
Luckily, I am in the process of renovating a 1970’s home, and I want to share with you all how I am doing it on a tight budget.
First, make paint your best friend. It is amazing what a gallon of paint can do for a space. One of my favorite things that I am doing in my home is painting the interior doors. Transforming the plain white doors into a statement pieces has brought new life to my home.
Cat Month September is National Happy Cat Month, and we wanted to celebrate by showing you some reader-submitted photos of these adorable furry friends. After all, there is nothing quite like an adorable and funny cat. They can help turn any frown upside down. Meow!
