Brand guidelines SEPTEMBER 2015

This brand guidelines and visual identity document will help staff and stakeholders to adhere to consistency and characteristics of the new identity for Yardleys School, created in July 2015. Please read through and follow these important guidelines and apply in all instances to protect the new visual identity.

The Crest

The crest for Yardleys School is used across all mediums. It is designed so it can be used as a ‘standalone’ device (the crest) or alongside the lettering (the logotype). The lettering on the crest allows this, and can be used on school uniforms or as a device in other communications for this reason. However, it is preferred if the crest and the logotype are included together in most communications.

The Logotype

The ‘logotype’ is created using the fonts Babus Neue and Lane. However, it is redrawn, re-emphasised and condensed to give it more impact, so this font should not be used as a raw font in communications if available, but the ‘logotype’ as shown here should be used.

It is possible to use the ‘logotype’ in communications as a standalone, but only in areas where the whole logo (the crest and the logotype) have appeared. The ‘strapline’ must always appear.

The Identity

The crest and the logotype ‘combined’ (the identity) should be used on all important communications to strengthen the identity as shown. It should be used, in most instances, on a clean, white background for clarity and consistency, although a ‘white’ version is available which appears on solid green on the current prospectus

The logotype has been specifically designed to incorporate the strapline ‘working together for a better future’ and this appears in all instances as part of the logotype.

Logo formats

The primary use for the Yardleys School logo is the colour version on a clean, white background (A and B) When used in black and white, a greyscale version is available (B and C) When used in black only a mono version is available (D and E) In all versions, the following formats should be used. For print use the format .eps For internal communications (in Word or other programmes) use the format .jpeg or .pdf These digital formats are available from Jill Wilson.

Colours

The colour palette for the Yardleys School logotype is important, the correct colours should be used in all instances. Below are the correct formulas to use for different uses in print and web. The colours are imbedded in the digital versions.

Fonts

The font to be used in all professionally produced communications is Gill Sans. For emphasis, in certain cases, Gill Sans Bold can be used. It has been chosen for its simplicity, versatility and clarity. It is very important not to use other typefaces , particularly Serif faces such as Times, or definitely not Comic Sans!

Gill Sans ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz 1234567890!@£$%^&*()_+;’,./?><`~=Gill Sans Bold ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz 1234567890!@£$%^&*()_+;’,./?><`~=-

Letterheads

It is important to all users to clarify the use of letterheads in all communications. Do not, in any circumstances, use a digital version of this letterhead for printing on internal printers, but use the printed letterheads supplied, and print directly onto those. The layout that follows has been designed to give clarity, consistency and weight to the communications from Yardleys School from this point. Please no DIY!

The new Yardleys School identity has been carefully designed and includes stationery, signage, a prospectus, a digital prospectus, postcards, reports and pupil organisers. Please do not, under any circumstances, create DIY communications as this just waters down and spoils the message we’ve all worked so hard to get right. Order new stock of all communication materials from Creative Input on 0121 258 0742.

excellent care & support... LUNCH ARRANGEMENTS School lunch is served in the school canteen offering a full range of healthy foods and where halal food is always available. Pupils may bring a packed lunch but only under exceptional circumstances are they allowed to go home for lunch. Pupils are not allowed out of school to buy lunch.

PASTORAL CARE

STUDENT SUPPORT

Our pastoral system is a real strength of the school. We are justly proud of our House system through which we offer a tutor to pupil ratio of 1:12; all pupils are allocated to a tutor group on entry to school and most will stay in this group, with their form tutors, for 5 years. The 'family' atmosphere engendered by there being a mix of age groups in each form has had a significant and positive impact on the school ethos.

We work with several outside agencies who provide a comprehensive range of services to ensure that children are supported and have someone to listen to their concerns. Support includes:

We place pupils into groups with great care. We ensure that we address any issues of concern to pupils at the time of transfer and have created a secure environment with zero tolerance of bullying.

● Counsellors who offer one to one work and small groups focus on anger management and assertiveness. (Pupils may be referred to an external expert or agency if they require additional specialist support). ● Careers staff advise on work experience, college courses and vocational choices, offering interviews to pupils from Year 9 onwards. ● A fully qualified nurse and several first-aiders are on hand to deal with any medical needs pupils may have. ● A team of specialist staff who support pupils with special educational needs. ● A range of groups which focus on literacy, numeracy, reading and handwriting. ● A team of staff who work with pupils whose first language is not English; ● Additional activities to support or extend pupils who are identified as being gifted and talented.
