“Why?” “Because you are a girl” There is a stereotype social stigma about women still prevailing in India. Every time some tries to violate this non existing line they are faced with opposition not just by the opposite sex, by their own as well. This difference in attitude towards the two genders of the same species is why I believe India is still a developing country.
It is believed that women enjoyed equal status with men in ever aspect of life during the early vedic period. As we all know that dint last very long, and to this day we can constantly feel the changes. The war between oppression and suppression seems to be a never ending one. Women were subjected to countless number of crimes committed against them over an awfully long period of time. Some of which are ...
Sati, Jauhar, Devdasi, child marriage, Dowry, sexual harassment,
domestic violence, trafficking for domestic work, child labor or prostitution,
female infanticides, sex selective abor tion,
burkha or the purdah system’s etc.
Even though the status of women was nothing more than a mere commodity, some women dared to step outside the four walls and walk shoulder to shoulder with men, many tried and failed but the few who succeeded changed the way women were perceived.
From your road side vender’s to the top executives of business firms,
from a constable one the street to the commissioner running your town,
a professor, a principle, a prime minister and even the president. A lady is everywhere ....
The modern day woman has put her hand into every possible aspect of life, but India is a country of diversities. Home to the ambitious and the or thodox all the same.
This is not about feminism or about women empowerment. This is to show you the change in the status of women and how it has affected their appearance. I am no one to judge positive from negative, I am simply showing you what I see are the differences and the similarities between yesterday and today of women in India.
