INSIGHTS FOR THE COST-SECTOR

A Cost-Sector Christmas...

Favourite Flavours

An Extra Experience

Comforting Classics

A classic combination of flavours that not only ooze festive feels but also evoke feelings of comfort is a sure winner, whoever the audience. This year Christmas nods to nostalgia with Chocolate & Orange identified as the festive flavour. This year we are offering a gluten-free chocolate & orange tart. This small, individually wrapped dessert is easy to facilitate under time pressures, small in size for residents and makes a great grab & go offering in colleges or schools. For the perfect finish, serve with a sprinkling of icing sugar.

COVID-19 has limited a lot of the ‘everyday experience’ that the costsector can provide to residents, patients, students and clientele. As there will naturally be a lot of challenges around catering this Christmas and New Year, it is also important to think about how an extra special experience (big or small) can be delivered to bring festive joy. Ideas such as virtual Christmas Carols, snack boxes, and activity kits can all work well and be tailored depending on your facilities.

Young or old we innately find comfort in what we know best, from traditional colours schemes, through to well-loved recipes. Tradition binds us together, even if not physically with family members then emotionally with food and flavours. Food and drink provide a perfect reassuring and familiar outlet in these uncertain times. The muchloved Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings will still be hugely popular this year. Ensuring that the meal you serve is of the highest standard with quality meats, vegetables and accompaniments that evoke memories through aromas and flavours is so important, especially in the current climate. To complement the Christmas dinner, why not try the Country Range Mini Mince Pies – the perfect small portion for reduced appetites or smaller mouths!

As a nation, we are already looking for some normality and this year Christmas and New Year will be centre stage. This is a season that means so much to so many; a time to come together and enjoy the company of friends and family. With this being said, this year catering teams will be facing an environment unlike before. To provide residents, students and clientele with a festive meal whilst contending with challenges such as lower staff levels and reduced skillsets within kitchens. Procedures and measures around cleanliness, safety and social distancing are high on the agenda and are being scrupulously measured by all.

Waste not this Christmas

Frozen & Festive

Planning and Preparation

This Christmas you may have reduced numbers, reduced staff levels or reduced budgets, one thing that will also be important is to reduce waste. It is important to prepare for fewer numbers so that any concern for food waste is addressed ahead of time. Choosing ingredients that can be used for one meal to another and tailoring the menu accordingly can significantly help reduce the waste. Selecting products that are frozen, individually packaged or smaller portions sizes can all assist with reducing waste at this time of year and can support catering in a socially distanced environment. When it comes to the main course, our Creed Family Butchers offers a pre-stuffed single turkey butterfly. The convenient turkey breast is easy to cook and slice, ready to heat up when needed – reducing the wastage.

With a busy time of year ahead, anticipating and preparing for fluctuating numbers of meals within your operation may seem challenging, however, frozen foods can provide a solution. As a category with strong growth and numerous benefits visit our range of frozen foods for this Christmas. From stock saving, easier portion control to produce freshness, we offer a range for all dayparts and a range suitable across all sectors.

When arranging the Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings planning and preparation is key. Our team is here to help you plan and prepare your offering. From assisting with budgets, allergen and nutrition management, meat traceability from our Creed Family Butchers and ease of use solutions such as our prepped vegetables from Creed Fresh Produce, we can support you.

How will you set the scene? Why not make the new inclusion of protective screens and PPE festive - a touch of tinsel and a Santa’s hat will go a long way this year!
