Choir entertains crowd at Pop Show Kaitlyn Blake For over 40 years, the Clear Creek High School choir has presented the Pop Show. This year’s pop show was held May 12 – 14, 2011, and held itself up against previous years’ pop shows. The opening number of the Pop Show every year is “We’ve Got A Show For You.” This is a playful number that gives a sense of tradition for the singers. Weeks before the Pop Show opens, choir members audition with solos and ensembles and the best are chosen to be in the Pop Show. Some numbers are all three nights, and some are only one night. This year’s selection was of solos and ensembles were remarkable. Every single singer had an amazing voice and fantastic showmanship. The seniors this year are especially outstanding. Even though there wasn’t the usual “Senior Girls” number, there were many opportunities for the audience to get a glimpse of the singers’ natural talents. Also, all of the seniors performed “Beulah Land,” which moved the audience to tears. The Clear Creek Choir is definitely going to lose many very talented singers as they graduate. While often the thought of performing in front of crowds is very nerve- wracking for performers, their stage fright didn’t show. Every performer seemed to have a fun time as they were singing and dancing their hearts out.

This year’s A+ Aaron Wilson was certainly one to remember. Since his sophomore year, Wilson has been known as A+ when he made the audience laugh with Trey Miller. In his senior mystery song, A+ had a surprise guest, Mr. Pullen, who sang with him. However, Wilson is not just a joker, he also demonstrated his serious side of music in his solo “One Woman Man,” which had all of the girls in the audience swooning for his low singing voice. The members of the Clear Creek Choir have a lot to be proud of. They held a fantastic Pop Show, as usual. The choir has many accomplishments, including Sweepstakes at UIL Contest for the fifth year in a row, best in class at the American Classics Music Festival, and best choir overall in the Winter Park Ski-Music Festival. The choir’s phenomenal singers, directors, and band members should be very proud of their performance. The choir will certainly be losing many talented seniors, but will certainly be gaining more talented new members as well.

Gusti Escalante sang “It Ain’t Me, Babe,” by Bob Dylan while playing harmonica and guitar. This unique performance was playful and showed Escalante’s numerous musical talents. Another outstanding soloist was Jamie Henderson, previously the lead of the Senior Musical, The Wiz, who gave an adorable performance of “Heartache Tonight.” Jennifer Magill, Kaleigh Sutula, and Sloane Schaumburger all shared the same spot in the program on the three different nights. It is a shame that the audience could not hear all three of the seniors because they sang beautifully. Two senior ensembles were also phenomenal. Clay Crume, Phillip Jackson, Sean Jackson, and Ross Wagner were the first ensemble of the night and sang “Down on the Corner.” This ensemble was beautifully balanced as the guys’ voices merged into a fantastic harmony. Jamie Henderson, Sarah Johnson, Jennifer Magill, Erin Son, Kaleigh Sutula, and Julienne Unabia also had a fun ensemble. The seniors sang “One Fine Day,” and they had one fine performance. The song featured each of the performers as soloists, as well as ensemble singers. Matt Johnson is a senior this year also, but has only been a member of the Clear Creek Choir for two years. He sang “Moondance” by Van Morrison with complete sincerity. Johnson is also a member of the Wind Ensemble band and plays the French Horn and plays the piano. During Johnson’s performance of “Moondance,” he played guitar, showing that he is musically inclined in many areas.

The Clear Creek Cavaliers put on an annual Spring Show highlight their hard work and talent on May 5 through May 7. They performed the dances they took to competitions. The long hours and numerous late night practices all come down to three nights. The Spring Show is also a showcase for the seniors that are graduating this spring. They are given the most dance numbers in the show and treat this show as their goodbye to high school. This year the show took audience members on a journey showing the diversity of dance. As is the tradition every year, the Social Committee members, President Sloane Schaumburger, Vice President Lena Toia, New New liason Taylor McMahon, Secretary Taylor Bolt, and Historians Nicole Mosca and Andrea Arnao decorated the lobby to fit the theme.

“Every year the lobby never ceases to amaze me with all of the Social Committee’s hard work. They work so hard staying even later after our late night practices and giving up their home time and weekends to work on it,” commented Clear Creek Cavalier Casey Dervay. Spring show is not only a dance performance but also an induction ceremony for the new members on the team. When the seniors hit their jump split in the finale on the last night of show, they end their career as a Clear Creek Cavalier. The group of new dancers that recently made the team begin theirs. “To me Spring Show is the best and worst part of our endless season. It’s sad to see the seniors that we have bonded with preparing to leave for college, but it is exciting to meet the new dancers; its like having a whole new team,” said sophomore Sarah Hughes. A great deal of preperation and hard work goes into creating the show. The theater department volunteers

their time to help with lighting, and the custodial staff extends their hours to meet the Cavaliers’ practice schedule “I really liked the show this year. It was a good length and had a good variety. My favorite dance was probably Team Jazz because of the sassy dance moves and cute costumes. I thought the costumes were really cute and different. It was truly an inspirational to me as a dancer to see Ms. Juengle dance with the officers. Overall, I very much so enjoyed the show and can’t wait for next years,” said sophomore Santana Day. Captain Brooke Fontenot and New-New Liason Taylor McMahon dance their hearts out in their final Spring Show.
