At its core, leadership is about providing a vision that motivates people to get along (work as a team) in order to get ahead (of rival teams).

Profile their values (what makes them tick) Align their skills & interests (to ensure fit) Set them relevant goals (meaningful mission) Give them honest feedback (self-regulation)
From a psychological perspective, warfare boils down to a battle of values – the winner imposes his values on the loser.
Competence: have talent for the business Good judgment: make good decisions quickly Vision: provide a meaningful mission Integrity: honor commitments, don’t play favorites
In sum‌ 1. People’s welfare depends on the effectiveness of organizations. 2. The effectiveness of organizations depends on coordinated team efforts. 3. Coordinated team efforts depend on leadership. 4. Without leadership, individuals are not motivated to achieve things for the group.
