Os 50 anos do SATA Rallye Açores significaram o atingir de uma marca vitalícia: 50 edições de um rali, 50 anos de árduo trabalho, 50 anos em que milhares de pessoas, puros entusiastas de desporto motorizado, deram o seu melhor para uma causa: a promoção do automobilismo e dos Açores, no mundo. Completando os 51 anos de idade, este ano, o Rali dos Açores ganha um novo nome: Azores Airlines Rallye. Um novo nome, mas também uma nova imagem e, claro está, um novo sentimento de entusiasmo e da renovação da missão, que nunca foi terminada nem nunca terminará. Contando com uma extraordinária lista de inscritos que conta com os nomes mais proeminentes do Campeonato FIA da Europa de Ralis, mas também dos pilotos nacionais e regionais, a edição deste ano do Azores Airlines Rallye pode garantir uma coisa: será uma edição ímpar onde a vitória será discutida até ao final. The age of 50 for SATA Rallye Açores meant the achievement of a lifetime mark: 50 editions of a rally! 50 years of hard labour, 50 years where thousands of people, pure motorsports enthusiasts gave their best to a cause: to promote motorsports and the Azores to the world. Aging 51 this year, the Azores rally gains a new name: Azores Airlines Rallye. A new name, but also a new image and, of course, a new feeling of excitement and the renewal of a mission, that never ended and will never end. With an outstanding entry list that counts with the most prominent drivers from the FIA European Rally Championship, but also from the Portuguese Rally Championship along with the best Azorean drivers, this year’s edition of Azores Airlines Rallye can grant one thing for sure: it will be one of the best and victory will be discussed until the end. Depois de ter, em 2015, passado a mítica barreira das 50 edições, a mais importante prova automobilística que se realiza nos Açores continua a apresentar um patamar de qualidade e notoriedade que faz com que seja um veículo fundamental para mostrar os Açores ao mundo, com destaque para as belezas naturais da ilha de São Miguel. É, pois, esta visibilidade externa garantida pelo Azores Airlines Rallye que está na base da parceria que o Governo dos Açores tem firmado, ao longo dos anos, com o Grupo Desportivo Comercial, a qual se tem mostrado muito proveitosa enquanto instrumento de promoção do nosso arquipélago em mercados de grande importância para a Região Autónoma dos Açores. As imagens do espetacular troço das Sete Cidades, emoldurado pelo verde da paisagem e pelo azul da lagoa, correm mundo e já constituem a imagem de marca de uma prova que, ano após ano, capta, cada vez mais, o entusiasmo do muito público e a emoção dos pilotos concorrentes. nder the name of Azores Airlines Rallye, the competition that is considered to be one of the best events of FIA European Rally Championship, promoted by Eurosport Events, is back to the already famous and spectacular roads of São Miguel Island. After reaching the mythical mark of 50 editions in 2015, the most relevant motor racing event taking place in the Azores continues to offer a level of quality and visibility, which has become an important vehicle to show the Azores to the world, with special emphasis on the natural beauties of São Miguel Island. Therefore, it is the external visibility provided by the Azores Airlines Rallye that underpins the partnership that the Regional Government has established with Grupo Desportivo Comercial over the years. It has proved to be very useful as a tool for the promotion of our archipelago in important markets for the Azores. The images of the spectacular Sete Cidades stage, framed by the green hues of the landscape and the blue hues of the crater lake, have travelled the world and have already become the hallmark of an event that, year after year, increasingly captures the enthusiasm of the public and the thrill of the pilots taking part in the competition. In fact, it is a perfect translation of the feelings that we want to convey to our visitors, who will be also surprised by what our nature has to offer. I am sure that the 51st edition of the Azores Airlines Rallye will be, once again, an organisational and sporting success, paying tribute to all those who, for more than half a century, have worked with Grupo Desportivo Comercial to organise an event with this level of quality. É a quarta prova de dez pontuáveis para o ERC, terceira prova pontuável para o Campeonato Nacional de Ralis.

Trata-se de uma prova que projeta Ponta Delgada, a ilha de São Miguel e os Açores no mundo e engloba, desde 2012, a City Stage ou a Super Especial Citadina, que decorre na Avenida Infante D. Henrique, logo após a apresentação, nas Portas da Cidade, dos pilotos.

O desporto automobilista é, aliás, um bom exemplo que mostra a transversalidade associada ao desporto que despoleta o desenvolvimento da economia e do turismo açoriano. Faz deslocar ao território insular a participação de pilotos de outras nacionalidades e amantes deste género de desporto, promovendo e fomentado a nossa economia local, no âmbito da hotelaria, da restauração, do comércio e da animação turística, bem como contribuindo para a divulgação da Região Autónoma dos Açores, naquilo que ele oferece de melhor: as suas paisagens e as suas gentes. Motorsport is, indeed, a good example that shows us the transversality associated with sports which triggers the development of the economy and the Azorean tourism. It brings to the island drivers from other nationalities and fans of this kind of sport, promoting and encouraging our local economy, hotels, caterings, commerce and other areas of tourism, as well as contributing to the dissemination of the Azores, through the best we have to offer: our landscapes and our people. I hope that, once again, the Azores Airlines Rallye results as reference in regional, national and international levels, and that all participants feel the Azores as a second home taking it in their hearts, strengthening the desire to return. De Água Retorta às Furnas, o município possui miradouros de rara beleza, onde se avistam e deslumbram paisagens de cortar a respiração, praias de águas tépidas, parques de elevada riqueza botânica e torrentes de águas férreas que brotam das encostas revestidas de luxuriante vegetação. Uma dessas zonas idílicas é, sem dúvida, a paisagem da Serra da Tronqueira, palco de uma das classificações mais emblemáticas do prestigiado Azores Airlines Rallye, razão pela qual tem levado, muitas vezes, a maior Rede de Televisão Desportiva do mundo, a Eurosport, a escolher este cenário para as transmissões do evento, imagens que têm por hábito chegar a mais de 50 países, onde se fala 20 diferentes línguas, alcançando, segundo o próprio canal desportivo, 27 milhões de visualizações do programa nos canais Eurosport, nas mais variadas vertentes, quer pela internet, quer pela televisão. É o nome dos Açores em altos voos. O Azores Airlines Rallye é, assim, uma importante montra de imagens que, ao longo de 50 anos, tem dado a conhecer ao mundo as nossas paisagens, as nossas gentes, a nossa hospitalidade e a nossa simpatia, o que muito nos orgulha e envaidece. One of those idyllic areas is, without a doubt, the landscape of the Serra da Tronqueira, scene of one of the most emblematic stages of the prestigious Azores Airlines Rallye, reason that has led, often, that the largest sports television network in the world, Eurosport, to choose this scenario for the transmission of the event, images that have reached more than 50 countries, 20 different languages, reaching, according to the this sports channel, 27 million views on Eurosport channels, in various aspects, either by internet or by television. It´s the name of the Azores flying high. The Azores Airlines Rallye is, thus, an important showcase of images that, over 50 years, has showed the world our landscapes, our people, our hospitality and our sympathy, which makes us very proud and flatter. (FERNANDO PESSOA) Azores Airlines Rallye, nome que irá a partir deste ano associar-se ao nosso RALI, representa as asas dos Açores no Mundo do futuro, aliado ao desenvolvimento económico dos Açores, consideramos uma aposta forte na notoriedade do Destino. A sua integração e continuidade é também a consagração quer no aspeto desportivo, quer na promoção dos Açores através da divulgação de imagens de grande impacto. Este ano conseguimos novamente ter entre nós os melhores que estão as disputar o Campeonato da Europa, teremos à partida do nosso Rali 72 inscritos com os melhores carros da atualidade, feito notável considerando a nossa situação geográfica, porém a qualidade da nossa prova é apetecível e memorável para quem nos visita. A decisão do Governo dos Açores de associar o nome da nossa transportadora aérea ao nosso Destino Turístico à já então maior prova desportiva das nossas Ilhas, é uma aposta ganha para todos. O Azores Airlines Rallye, além de ser a maior manifestação desportiva dos Açores, tem uma ligação ao maior canal de desporto da EUROPA, o Eurosport, permitindo uma grande visibilidade. A agora Azores Airlines tem como função social unir os açorianos entre si e os Açores a nível Mundial. É também um instrumento ao serviço do Turismo. Temos encarado como missão a tarefa de levar o nome dos Açores a todos os Continentes, conscientes da enorme responsabilidade, mas também confiantes na tarefa executada com muito gosto e dedicação por parte da vasta equipa que assumiu este compromisso e que não se esgota neste momento, mas sim num trabalho continuado, para que os Açores adquiram cada vez mais visibilidade, integrante da Estratégica Turística, com um retorno sólido e crescente, interiorizado em benefício dos agentes económicos e sociais da região. O Governo dos Açores tem vindo a considerar o Azores Airlines Rallye como um dos eventos estratégicos promocionais do destino Açores e, como tal, tem merecido a colaboração de vários Departamentos Governamentais que nas suas áreas específicas de atuação têm apoiado o Rali de forma intensiva e que tornam possível a realização desta prova automobilística. zores Airlines Rallye is a name which, from this year on, will be associated to our Rallye, and it represents the wings of the Azores in the world of the future. In conjunction with the economic development of our archipelago, this Rallye is a strong bet in future recognition. Its integration and continuity is also synonym of the acclaim in sport as well as in the promotion of the Azores, through the spread of high-impact images of our islands. Again, this year, we have amongst us the best drivers of the European Championship. At our Rallye’s starting line we are going to have 72 drivers with the best cars there are. This is a remarkable deed, when taking into consideration our geographical location; however, the quality of our event is alluring and memorable to those who visit us. By deciding to associate the name of the Azorean airline to our tourist destination and to the major sports event of our islands, the Azorean Government has placed a winning bet. Besides being Azores major sports event, the Azores Airlines Rallye is linked to Europe’s biggest sports channel – Eurosport -, an association that provides widespread visibility to this event. Azores Airlines has the social task of uniting Azoreans to Azoreans and the Azores to the world, while bringing the world to the Azores. Taking the name of the Azores to all continents is also our mission. We are aware of the enormous responsibility this represents, but we are also confident in the work that has been done by the vast team that has taken up this mission with great pleasure and dedication. This team’s work does not end now; it’s on-going in a joint effort to take the name of the Azores further. This effort is also part of a tourism strategy plan that has brought solid and continuous revenue which benefits the economic and social forces of this region. The Azorean Government considers the Azores Airlines Rallye one of the most important strategic events of promotion of the Azores and, due to this, has involved several governmental departments in the support network of this Rallye. To them, our deepest thank you for the continued trust placed in us. We are expecting the arrival of numerous teams, originating from 16 countries, which are the ones responsible for a first-class show. We are counting on all of you to have a maximum security rallye, as this is a major factor for its success. I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to all those that, in a way or another, have contributed along the years for the success of this event. Começou esta temporada por vencer a primeira prova do ano, o Jannerrallye, para depois também conseguir pontuação máxima no Chipre e na Grécia. O seu título em 2015 assenta também na sua consistência, tendo obtido três segundos lugares, um terceiro e um quarto em cinco provas. O popular condutor, conhecido pelos seus fãs como ‘Kajto’, terminou em quarto na sua campanha no ERC em 2014, resolvendo dedicar-se a tempo inteiro ao ERC depois de quatro títulos consecutivos em absoluto no seu país e tendo batido todos os seus pares no Rali da Polónia em 2013. ajetanowicz returns to the ERC in 2016 in his LOTOS-backed Ford Fiesta R5 as he bids to successfully defend the title he won last year. He began his campaign in style by winning the season-opening Jännerrallye, before later also taking maximum points in Cyprus and Greece. Consistency was also key to his championship, taking three second-places and a third from four of his other five starts. The hugely popular driver, known by his fans as ‘Kajto’, finished fourth in his maiden ERC campaign in 2014, turning to the series after winning four consecutive titles in his native Poland and having already beaten all-comers on Rally Poland in 2013. fotos 2015

Também foi espetacular na Letónia, vencendo a primeira prova especial antes de ter capotado e depois vencendo cinco das seis provas especiais na segunda etapa. ukyanuk returns for more ERC in 2016 after finishing third in the championship last year. Stepping up to a Ford Fiesta R5, he claimed his first victories in Estonia and Switzerland. He was also spectacular in Latvia, winning the first stage before rolling, then winning five out of six stages on leg two. The Russian burst onto the ERC scene when he battled rallying legend Francois Delecour for a podium in Latvia in 2013 in a Group N-specification Mitsubishi Lancer. That earned him the Colin McRae ERC Flat Out Trophy, something he was awarded again when he was second on Rally Estonia in 2014.

irmacis steps up to a ŠKODA Fabia R5 to compete for overall glory in 2016 after finishing a superb runner-up in ERC Junior in his debut season. Then driving a Peugeot 208 VTi R2, the Latvian won the class on Rally Estonia. He had moved into the ERC after claiming three back-to-back R2 titles in his homeland. For this year he will remain with the same Sports Racing Technologies team, and enter a second season of working with co-driver Artūrs Šimins.

eets contested seven ERC rounds in 2015, claiming sixth-place finishes on home soil in Estonia and on the Acropolis Rally. On the former event, he also pleased the local crowd with a maiden ERC stage victory on the Elva superspecial. A points-scorer on his first ever ERC event in Latvia in 2013, Jeets and and co-driver Andrus Toom were hospitalised by a heavy crash on Rally Estonia the following season. After two years with a Ford Fiesta R5, he switches to a Škoda Fabia R5 for his 2016 campaign.

onsani começa o seu terceiro ano a competir ao mais alto nível do ERC, e depois de ter experimentado a Peugeot, o piloto regressa em 2016 ao volante de um Citröen. Depois do sucesso alcançado ao nível das duas rodas, incluindo a Taça de Produção do IRC de 2012, Consani mudou-se para a Peugeot e para os comandos de um Peugeot 207 S2000 em 2014, para competir nas 11 jornadas da temporada. Terminou em 10.º na classificação, somando nos melhores resultados o quarto posto na Irlanda do Norte e nos Açores. onsani begins his third year competing at the top level of the ERC, and after a stint in a Peugeot he returns behind the wheel of a Citröen for 2016. Following success in two-wheel-drive machinery, including the 2012 IRC Production Car Cup, Consani stepped up to a Peugeot 207 S2000 for 2014 and contested all 11 rounds of the series. Taking 10th in the final standings, he scored best results of fourth on back-to-back events in Northern Ireland and the Azores. He started 2015 with a maiden podium in Austria, and followed that with sixth in Latvia before a switch to a Citroën DS3 R5, with which he finished fifth in the Azores and in Cyprus to secure fourth in the standings.

mainstay of the ERC, Tlusťák claimed his maiden championship top score on Rallye International du Valais in 2011 before finishing fourth in the standings 12 months later. He helped GPD Mit Metal Racing Team to the European Rally Championship for Teams in 2013 and tackled selected rounds in 2014 in a privateer Fabia Super 2000, scoring points on occasion. In 2015 he did all 10 rounds of the ERC under his own Tlusťák Racing banner, and for 2016 he’s upgraded to an R5-specification Fabia.

ostenaro has made five appearances in the ERC over the past two seasons, and although he hit trouble on each of his three outings last year, in 2014 he finished both the Acropolis Rally and SATA Rallye Açores in 11th place. Those two events were his first outside of Italy. After four seasons driving Peugeot 207 S2000 machinery, he has upgraded to an R5-specification Peugeot 208 T16 and already used it to win in Italy at the end of 2015.

t’s all change for Ingram, who swaps his Peugeot for a factory-supported Opel and welcomes Katrin Becker as his new co-driver. Ingram got his career off to a winning start in the British Junior 1000 championship in 2011, and he claimed the Renault Sport UK Trophy the following year. He got his break when he led ERC Junior on the 2013 Circuit of Ireland Rally, and although he crashed out he won the Colin McRae ERC Flat Out Trophy. Support from Peugeot UK followed and he took seventh in the ERC Junior standings before improving to fourth in 2015, winning the class on SATA Rally Açores.

riebel returns for another ERC Junior season in 2016 with the ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team after finishing third in the category last year. Also a serving police officer, Griebel won the ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Cup in 2013 and has been part of Opel’s plans ever since. He finished second in ERC Junior on his third start on Barum Czech Rally Zlín in 2014, a result he repeated on the Circuit of Ireland and Kenotek Ypres Rally during the following season.

Infelizmente a sua campanha ficou reduzida depois de um sério acidente, mas cedo surgiram mais alegrias para a sua família quando Nikolay terminou surpreendentemente em sexto em Valais na sua primeira prova no ERC sendo igualmente a primeira num carro do tipo R5. Para mais, o seu primeiro rali aconteceu apenas no ano passado, depois de ter abandonado as provas em circuito de velocidade.

ryazin is following in the footsteps of his older brother Vasily, who after standout performances in Super 2000 machinery – including second on his home event Rally Liepāja in 2014 – took a step back to compete in ERC Junior last year. Unfortunately, his campaign was cut short by a serious road accident, but there was soon more to cheer in the family when Nikolay finished a stunning sixth in Valais on his first start in the ERC and first rally in an R5 car. What’s more, last year was his first in rallying after a switch from circuit racing.

oão Barros começou nos ralis em 2011. Na altura e ao volante de um Citröen Saxo Kit Car, Barros apenas participou numa prova e não terminou devido a avaria mecânica. Em 2012, João manteve-se ao volante de viaturasde duas rodas motrizes e terminou a sua época desportiva no campeonato Open de ralis português no quinto lugar final. 2013 foi um ano de grandes mudanças e o até então tripulado Renault Clio S1600 dá lugar a um novo Ford Fiesta R5 e o João começa a escalada na tabela de classificação. Em 2014 Barros cumpre a sua primeira época por inteiro no principal escalão dos ralis nacionais e termina em 5º. Em 2015, a experiência de Barros faz-se notar e os resultados começam a aparecer. Barros é um dos mais rápidos pilotos portugueses e aponta para um bom resultado nos Açores.

The Renault Clio S1600 driven until then gives place to a new Ford Fiesta R5 and João starts to climb the scoreboard. In 2014 Barros makes his first complete season at the main Portuguese rally championship and finishes 5th overall. In 2015, Barro’s experience just got higher and the results starts to appear. Henrique, em Ponta Delgada, a City Show decorrerá em condições normais de prova, onde os concorrentes partirão com intervalos de 3 minutos e beneficiarão, como esperado, de todas as condições de segurança num traçado totalmente percorrido em asfalto e especialmente desenhado para o efeito.

Description AZORES AIRLINES Rallye’s City Show is a demonstration stage and serves as “appetizer” for the main event. Held at Av. Infante D. Henrique, in Ponta Delgada, the City Show will take place under standard rally conditions. Competitors run with three minutes interval between the two and have to go through a route with a length of 3.5 km, specially designed for this purpose.

This special stage is the reverse version of SS Pico da Pedra Golfe, a famous special stage for the huge jump very near the end of the SS. It starts at Caminho dos Beirais (São Vicente), goes side-by-side with the Batalha Golf Course and finishes at Caminho dos Arcos, already at Pico da Pedra village. It’s a very demanding special stage where drivers skills are fundamental for their success as competing formations.

This is one of the nicest special stages with its start happening in upper Vila Franca do Campo. Competitors run throughout the first part of the special test on agricultural roads. After a brief incursion into asphalt, they return to gravel roads and enter a private forest that offers one of the most beautiful and natural surroundings, where most often the competitors drive lined by fields of flowers and trees. The final part of this special stage also offers unique moments with the passage on the banks of the Lagoa de São Brás (São Brás Lake).

This special stage recreates, in reverse, much of the old Pico da Pedra special stage, famous for its huge jump towards the end of SS. It got its start in Caminho dos Arcos, traveling to the jump zone in reverse, thence along the Batalha Golf Course and come to finish in the Beirais of São Vincente. It is a demanding special stage where competitors driving qualities determine the success of formations competing in.

Tem o seu início marcado por uma descida bastante técnica e acentuada, cruza próximo da estrada regional das Feteiras e volta a subir rumo à estrada de acesso à Vista do Rei – Sete Cidades. Tanto na fase inicial como na fase final, esta especial caracteriza-se pelas zonas onduladas, pelo ritmo imposto pelas características da estrada que os concorrentes percorrem. Zonas estreitas e lentas encadeiam com zonas rápidas e largas, transformando esta numa prova especial de grande nível.

This special stage is often decisive for competitors participating in the SATA Rallye Açores. Got its start marked by a very technical and steep descent, crosses near the regional road of Feteiras and goes back up toward the access road to Vista do Rei, Sete Cidades. From its start to its end, this special is characterized by the undulating areas changing the pace taken by drivers. Narrow and slow zones linked together with fast and wide areas, turns this as a great special stage.

91.00MHz 100.50MHz Nos últimos anos este tem sido o cartão de visita do AZORES AIRLINES Rallye, antigo SATA Rallye Açores. Uma paisagem de cortar a respiração, estradas estreitas e muito rápidas percorridas no topo da cratera de um vulcão adormecido, com as lagoas das Sete Cidades como pano de fundo e eis que naturalmente surge a classificação como “uma das mais belas provas especiais de classificação do mundo”. Sendo a mais extensa do rali, esta prova começa na Freguesia e percorre as duas cumeeiras das Sete Cidades. É uma das provas especiais que recebe mais público e que algumas vezes é transmitida em directo pelo canal televisivo Eurosport.

In recent years this has been the business card of AZORES AIRLINES Rallye, former SATA Rallye Açores. A breath taking landscape, narrow roads and fastly driven the top of the crater of a dormant volcano, with the lagoons of the Sete Cidades as a backdrop and behold, there comes the stage classified as “one of the most beautiful special stages of the world”. Being the longest of the rally, this event begins at Vista do Rei and runs the two gables of the Sete Cidades. It is one of the special stages which receives more spectators.

Starting the ridge overlooking Povoação village, this special stage allows associating the enormous beauty of Povoação landscapes, Furnas and north coast of the island of São Miguel to great motorsport emotions. Extensive and technical, this special stage begins at the Planalto area, near the wind generators follows into a forest road, coming to an end in the rapid and wide descent to “Algarvia” place. A special stage not to be missed.

91.00MHz 91.50MHz Esta é a prova especial de classificação que menos alteração sofreu ao longo dos anos e que é uma embaixadora do AZORES AIRLINES Rallye, antigo SATA Rallye Açores. Com início na Vila do Nordeste, a prova especial “Tronqueira” percorre a zona de Floresta até ao Pico Bartolomeu, passando pelo Miradouro da Tronqueira e descendo depois no sentido do Faial da Terra. Mesmo à entrada da Mata dos Bispos o rali ruma à vila da Povoação, mudando o piso integralmente de características, passando pelo Monte Simplício e terminando na Lomba do Botão. É a catedral dos ralis a nível nacional e é uma prova especial de classificação que não deixa nenhum concorrente indiferente. Alguns pilotos até dizem que passaram pelo Parque Jurássico.

This is the special stage hat suffered less change over the years and it’s a true symbol of AZORES AIRLINES Rallye, former SATA Rallye Açores. Beginning in the Nordeste village, the special stage “Tronqueira” runs through the forest zone to the Pico Bartolomeu, through Tronqueira belvedere and then down towards the Faial da Terra. Right on the entrance of Mata dos Bispos, the rally heads to Povoação village, with the gravel characteristics strongly changing. It runs aside Monte Simplício and ends at Lomba do Botão. It is called the cathedral of rallies nationwide and is a special stage that leaves no one indifferent. Some drivers said they pass through the Jurassic park.
