Orientation and beginning Teaching and Learning within school Teachers will be expected to develop: • • • •
Positive attitudes and behaviours An awareness of their duties Their roles and responsibilities An awareness of the school vision together with knowledge of the professional code of conduct
Classroom practice Teachers will be placed with a mentor to Observe and gain knowledge of: • • • • • • •
Quality wave one teaching and learning of SEN pupils Personalised Planning Monitoring and Assessment Behaviour management Management of Support staff Differences and similarities in mainstream and SEN settings School policies
Observation of teachers leading a subject area Teachers will shadow a teacher to increase their knowledge in a specialised subject area to: • Gain a specific understanding of how best to differentiate for pupils with SEN • Explore a range of ways to plan and design a sequence of lessons to maximise learning outcomes • Explore curriculum offer and how it can be shaped to meet the varying needs of pupils with SEN • Find ways to assess pupil progress and record data in line with school policy
ASD Mentoring NQTs will spend time with one of our ASD advisors to gain further knowledge and understanding in the following areas: • • • •
Understanding autism in an inclusive context Enabling learning and participation-approaches and interventions Making sense of behaviour Creating an Autism friendly environmnet
Therapies NQTs will spend time meeting with a range of our Therapists to increase their understanding of: • • • • • •
Multi-agency working Pupil premium The referral process Benefits of therapy within an education setting Over coming potential barriers to learning Theory and practice
Quality CPD NQTs will be given the opportunity to attend training delivered to schools in the borough of Merton by our Teaching School. They will also have access to courses on offer by the local borough.
NQT Mentoring and support NQTs will have access to a mentor on site to support them with their needs inclusive of: • • • • • •
High quality feed back within a structured observation process Opportunities to observe outstanding lessons to further practice Access to weekly support including class support ,planning and record keeping Constructive side by side coaching Opportunities to improve teaching through practice and reflection Termly reports and joint action planning for continuous growth
