SELF CATERING APPLIANCE GUIDE

Struggling to find the right “on” switch or get your unit temperature just right?

Delve in here for important instructions on how to use the appliances in your self-catering unit.

Make sure to give your dishes a rinse before you pop them in the washer.

Turn it on, pop in a tablet and select your desired setting (if you’d like to help us on our green mission why not choose the ecofriendly wash), close the door and if it’s set properly you’ll hear the water come pouring in.

FRIDGE/FREEZER

Don’t go overboard filling the fridge and always leave it set to mark two to keep your food nice and fresh!

Press the stop button to stop the display flashing, set your timer and wait for the ping!

If it’s gas, press down and turn the knob to start the ignition and then use the knob to set the heat. If it’s electric just use the knob to set the heat.

For lodges 534, 541-545, the hob is a little more confusing…

When you switch the power on at the wall, “CAL” will show up on the LED display. Touch the OFF sensor to re-select the panel.

To switch on the cooking area, press the sensor button “1” for approximately two seconds to put the appliance in standby mode. Then press the + or – sensors and to turn it off press them both together.

This cooker has a child proof lock. To set it press the key symbol above the on/off switch for two seconds. Three control indicators will start to flash.

To de-activate it, press the two left-hand control symbols together, then within three seconds press the right-hand control symbol.

OVEN

Use the settings knob to choose between oven and grill, and the other knob to set the heat.

Hey presto, we’re cooking with gas… or electricity as the case may be. If your cooker won’t start, you might need to set the time on the clock. It doesn’t matter what time you set it to, it’ll work as long as it’s set.

Clock 1: To set the clock, press in the two small buttons on the left to eject the buttons outward. Press the left button in four times until a small red light appears under the clock symbol, then using the right-hand button, turn to set the time.

Clock 2: To set the time, press the middle button below the clock symbol, 4 times. This will light a red light in the display beside the clock sign. Then press + or – to set the correct time.

Clock 3 (Netherleigh): To activate the oven press the two small buttons on the left together and hold, at the same time turn the button to the right of the four smaller buttons to set the time.

HOB EXTRACTORS

For lodges 531-537, 541-550 and 801-825

Telescopic cooker hoods sit neatly above your hob. Please slide out when needed and hide away when not in use.

TUMBLE DRYER

Remember to clean the filters regularly and empty the water tank at the bottom of the dryer.

WASHING MACHINE

We’ve got a Gold Award from Green Tourism. We’re pretty proud of that, so help us to get even greener by using a 30-40-degree cycle whenever you can. As it’s a self-catering unit we don’t offer towel and linen service so remember to pop them in too.

HAIRDRYER

There should be one in your bedroom, just check the drawers or wardrobe.

If you are staying in one of our Cozy Cabins, you will find the hairdryer in the cupboard in the sitting room.

LOG BURNER

You’ll find instructions on top of the stove. Logs and kindling are in the basket and matches/firelighters are in a plastic tub in the kitchen (safely out of reach of curious little fingers!).

If you run out it is £10 per log top up and kindling is £5 per top up, or remember to bring along your own logs and kindling. Top ups can be done between 9:00am and 4.00pm by calling reception.

The log burner will keep you cosy, here are a few tips to help you stay safe and get the best from it.

• Only burn the firewood provided – a supply of kindling and logs have been placed in the wicker basket. If you would like more, please call 8000 and we will deliver free of charge.

• The fire lighters and matches are kept in a high cupboard in the kitchen away from little fingers.

• To light the stove use the dry kindling and fire lighters to heat up the firebox fast. The air vents should be fully open when first lighting the stove.

• When the fire is going well add some bigger logs but it’s best not to totally fill the firebox – you want to make sure there is good spacing around and between the logs.

• When these are burning well you can shut down the air a little.

• Wait till the logs have burnt down to a bed of glowing embers before adding more logs.

• Turn the air up a little to help the new logs catch fire, then back down again once they are going well.

• If you keep adding logs too often the stove’s efficiency drops by around 15% and more smoke will be produced.

• The glass panel can get hot; we have provided a fire guard.

• Draping clothes or putting things too near the stove may cause a fire.

• Storing wood under the stove isn’t advisable, it could catch fire.

GAS FIRE

We’ve got three different types of gas fire instructions…

1 Turn on the main switch at the wall and locate the control knobs behind the bottom front panel. Use the ignition knob on the right to start the fire, and the left knob to set your ideal temperature.

2 Turn the control dial to the pilot position, push in and hold, then push the button on the left at the same time (it might take a few attempts to light).

3 First set the temperature button to the hot setting then using the control dial push in and turn at the same time. This should activate the pilot light but it might take a few attempts to activate the flame.

ELECTRIC FIRE

in Lodges 535 and 536

You can operate the electric fire using the remote control or manually with the switches located on the right hand side.

Make sure the rocker switch on the appliance is in the I/On position.

Turn On and Off

To turn on; press the top switch to the I/On position.

To turn Off: press the top switch to the O/Off position.

Low Heat

Press the middle switch to activate/deactivate

High Heat

Press the bottom switch to activate/deactivate

Adjust the heat output by using the thermostat if fitted

Press once to start, then again to stop at desired setting.

HEATING

Our gas heaters are typically pre-set to a cosy 23°C and are also pre-set to come on at certain times during the day, ensuring a consistently comfortable temperature. The temperature can however be controlled by adjusting the radiators or by using the thermostat control next to the boiler.

If you adjust the temperature by more than 5°C it will affect the pre-set timings. Similarly using the gas fire to raise the unit temperature will mean the radiators switch off once the set temperature is reached.

BATHROOM HEATING

Whether you’ve got a bathroom heater, a heated towel rail, underfloor heating or a combination of all three, you’ll find the switches just outside the bathroom door on the wall or under the towel rail…pop them on and cosy up.

SHOWERS

Play about with them to turn the water on and to adjust the water pressure and temperature. The extractor fan will come on automatically when you turn the bathroom light on.

WATER MAINS

The emersion heaters heat the water to a rather toasty 60°C so please take care when using the taps or jumping in the bath, especially if there’s kids around.

TELEVISION

First thing’s first, plug it in. Switch it on using the remote or the buttons on either the side or the bottom of the TV. You can watch Freeview by using the DTV button.

EMERGENCIES

In case of emergency dial 0 or 999

EXTERNAL CALLS

To make an external call dial 9 followed by the number you wish to call. External calls are charged at 25p per BT unit and automatically charged to your bill.

OTHER ROOMS/UNITS

To call another guest’s room/unit from inside unit - Dial ‘1’ before the room number

FUSE BOX

Your unit’s fuse box will be in one of three places; either in the utility room, in a hallway cupboard or in the external boiler room.

If you need a hand finding it or using it, give our self-catering team a call on ext. 1729 or our reception team a call on ext. 1668.

EMERGENCY ‘Big red Button’

This is the emergency kill switch for the gas supply to the unit. It is not an end-of-days, nuclear missile launch button.

As such, it should only be used in the case of a gas related emergency and not in a zombie apocalypse type situation. If pushed, please contact reception on ext. 1668 and a team member will come to help you.
