DELINQUENT TAX NOTICE & LEGAL NOTICES P. 15-23

Jan. 10, 2022 By Bill Marable - csenewsnow.com The snow storm that blew threw the area last week offered a unique opportunity for administrators in the Jackson Madison County School System. Safety personnel used the day to disinfect buildings and classrooms throughout the system. “We used the snow day we had last Friday to go through and do a deep cleaning at every school in the district,” said James ‘Pete’ Johnson. “It is important that parents, students, and teachers know that we in the Jackson Madison County School System are doing everything within our power to insure that they are entering a safe environment.” Johnson says he and other board members are working closely with Superintendent Marlon King and school administrators to make sure every school within the system has the PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) supplies they need to keep teachers and students as safe as possible while in the classroom. However, Melvin Waller leases out his farm and hunts on another farm that might be more productive for big bucks. He decided one morning to hunt his own farm and found out the grass was greener on his farm than the other one. He is so glad he didn’t stick his head through the fence that day looking for a buck and instead found the big buck on his own plate. Now he doesn’t need to look at the plate beside him because he has a buck for his own plate.

Nickolas Atkins

Former Selmer Alderman sentenced to prison

January 9, 2022 Mandy Vandiver- wbbjtv.com JACKSON, Tenn. — According to a news release from the U.S Department of Justice, former Alderman of Selmer, Nickolas Atkins, was sentenced to federal prison for 48 months for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine. Chief U.S. District Judge S. Thomas Anderson announced the sentence on Friday, January 7. The release states that information presented in court, back in March 2018 included a joint-task force investigation being initiated into the activities of a drug trafficking organization run by Timmy Jermaine Cole. This included the distribution of large quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana from individuals in Mexico to West Tennessee. According to the release, the investigation uncovered through the interception of Title III wiretaps, that Atkins distributed drugs including: marijuana, pills, and cocaine. He also conducted a money laundering operation involving a restaurant owned by Cole, where Atkins would pay bills at the Hungry Wolf Restaurant in exchange for narcotics. Through several means of the investigation, including Title III wiretaps, surveillance, and witness statements, it was found that Atkins was responsible for 3 ounces of cocaine, 250 pounds of marijuana, and over 600 pills containing hydrocodone and also 77 units of testosterone. Atkins then sold those pills out of Moody Auto Sales, where he was employed. One intercepted phone call included a conversation between Cole and Atkins, stating that someone complained about marijuana quality. The release also states that around four days later, another call included a conversation where Atkins confirmed with Cole, that Atkins owed Cole for three “cuties,” which was later determined through the trial, refers to a quarter ounce of cocaine. Also included in the release was information that Atkins used his position as Alderman to obtain information from law enforcement and other community members to share with Cole, in an effort to hide his drug trafficking activity. 01-13-22 CSENEWS P.5

“I am not a fan of the filibuster. But, if holding on to that tradition is important to most of the Senate, I maintain that exceptions on Constitutional issues like voting should apply,” says House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (D-SC).

Over the past year, we Currently, 50 Repubhave witnessed loyalists licans in the United of the 45th President States Senate, aided and work to unravel the abetted by two Demothreads that hold the crats, are blocking votes

on two critical voting rights bills, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act. The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act basically updates the formula which, since the enactment of the 1965 Voters Rights Act, triggers a process of pre-clearance by the Justice Department or a federal court if a jurisdiction seeks to make any changes in its voting laws. In 2013, that pre-clearance formula was declared outdated by the United States Supreme Court and Congress was invited to update the formula. The House responded by holding over a dozen hearings by two separate committees and passed subsequent legislation which was sent to the Senate. Unfortunately, all Senate Republicans, except Senator Lisa Murkowski, are standing in the way of its passage. Two Democrats have been giving comfort to the Republicans on this issue and one of them, Senator Joe Manchin, has proposed the Freedom to Vote Act, seeking to attract bipartisan support for many provisions of the House-passed For the

People Act. The legislation includes provisions protecting election security, reforming campaign finance, ensuring fair redistricting, and preventing voter nullification. Despite Senator Manchin’s mollification attempts, not a single Republican voted to allow the Freedom to Vote Act to come to the floor for a vote. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has vowed to bring both bills up for another vote by January 17th, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. His efforts, however, seem destined to fail without a change to the Senate’s filibuster rules that require 60 votes to cut off debate. While bipartisanship is welcomed, and may be preferable, history informs us that the 15th Amendment giving Blacks the right to vote, passed on a party line vote. And who would argue that the 15th Amendment should not have been adopted because it did not have bipartisan support? I am not a fan of the filibuster. But, if holding on to that tradition is important to most of the Senate, I maintain that exceptions on Constitutional issues like voting should apply. An exception is employed for fiscal issues to ensure the full faith and credit of the United States are not jeopardized by a filibuster. The process is called “reconciliation,” a term I believe is more aptly applied to the Constitution than the budget. On the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt spoke these words, “No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win.” He continued, “I assert

that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.” America was victorious. Our democracy and our friends and allies were saved from tyranny. Today’s challenge is no less perilous. To

dismiss the seriousness of this moment is to condone the insidiousness of the “Big Lie.” Our best protection is to ensure the fundamentals of our democracy hold. As our 16th President extolled during another challenging time, “a house divided against itself cannot stand.”

IT’S A CRIME TO BE UNHEALTHY!

UT-TSU Extension Madison County By Susan Holloway, Program Assistant 4-H & Youth Development Do you recall last year during this month, I asked you to see if your health insurance policy offered you a yearly physical exam at no cost to you? If you got a physical last year, call your doctor and make an appointment for one day later than you had it done last year for 2022. It is essential that you know why your ankles are swollen and you are only 30 years old or any age for that matter. Get an understanding of what your A1C results are. Look for possible spots on skin which, if ignored, might become cancerous. Are you nearing high blood pressure? Be proactive to prevent major health problems. Your insurance company provides this in almost 100% of the policies. Check it out! In past years, my goals have been set and achieved with a variety of interests and skills. This year, I am joining with almost 50% of the US population declared obese by CDC. I admit, “I need to lose some weight”. Here is the way I write my goal –

“I will weigh 20 pounds less than my current weight on July 1, 2022, and again on December 1, 2022” Signed on 1st day of January 2022 ____________________ I type this and hang it several places in my house – mirrors, kitchen, etc. This goal is SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timed).

It is true that people can be a “healthy weight” and not be healthy, but obesity brings so many of the following health problems – diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and some types of cancer. These are the CDCs leading causes of death in the US. Ramsey Solution Newsletter by Dave Ramsey states we must set SMART goals in these seven areas: Spiritual, Fitness, Educational, Family, Career, Social, Financial. Do you know how we accomplish goals? We start NOW and we JUST DO IT! 01-13-22 CSENEWS P.9

JMC SCHOOLS USE SNOW DAY

Last year, Congress authorized more than $190 billion to help America’s schools reopen and stay open during the Corona virus pandemic. The money was meant to help schools provide safe, in-person instruction for all students and while a majority of schools have reopened, many are facing new challenges to keeping kids in classrooms as the Delta and Omicron variants spread. Even though approval has been granted for the vaccine to be administered to children under the age of 12, vaccination rates among the group remain staggered.

As of January 5, 2022, the CDC recorded: 7 million US children ages 5-11 have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, representing 25% of 5-11 year-olds.

Cont’d from page 1

Low vaccination numbers coupled with Tennessee’s strict mask mandate policy, have left many public school systems scrambling to insure that they have adequate supplies such as mask, disinfectant spray and hand sanitizer. As the Chairman of the Jackson-Madison County School Board, Johnson, (L) says he communicated with school officials as recent as last week concerning PPE supplies for local schools. “Principals within the system were instructed to contact District Chief Timothy Gilmer if they are in need of safety supplies or mask,” said Johnson. “We have ordered mask and are waiting on more cleaning supplies to be delivered.” 01-13-22 CSENEWS P.11

Three Georgia men sentenced to life in prison for ‘chilling’ Arbery murder

Jan 10, 2022 Updated 21 hrs ago Comments A woman holds a sign outside the Glynn County Courthouse after the jury reached a guilty verdict in the trial of William “Roddie” Bryan, Travis McMichael and Gregory McMichael, charged with the February 2020 death of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery, in Brunswick, Georgia, Nov. 24, 2021. -REUTERS (Reuters) — A Georgia judge sentenced Travis McMichael and his father Gregory McMichael on Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for what he called the “chilling” 2020 murder of Ahmaud Arbery, a Black man running through their mostly white neighborhood in the southern U.S. state. Judge Timothy Walmsley also gave a life sentence to their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan but ruled that he could seek parole after 30 years in prison, the minimum sentence allowed for murder under Georgia law. Echoing comments made by Arbery’s anguished relatives earlier in the hearing at Glynn County Superior Court, the judge condemned the three men for what he described as their mistake of failing to see Arbery as just another neighbor.

MEMPHIS WOMAN INDICTED ON THEFT COUNT

MEMPHIS – An investigation by special agents with the Medicaid Fraud Control Division of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the indictment and arrest of a Memphis woman charged with theft. At the request of the Division of TennCare’s Office of Program Integrity Unit in June of 2021, TBI agents began investigating allegations that Talethia Harvey (pictured right) falsified documentation for TennCare services provided for a family member that were never received. During the course of the investigation, agents developed information that between October 2017 and May 2020 Harvey billed TennCare for services that she never provided and continued to bill Tenncare after the family member’s death. On December 6, 2021, the Shelby County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Harvey (DOB: 9/28/84) with one count of Theft of Property between $10,000 and $60,000. On January 4th, she was taken into custody by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Shelby County East Women’s Facility on $25,000 bond. Harvey is no longer employed as a caregiver.
