MID- SEASON RABBIT REPORT
West Tennessee OUTDOORS
With deer season closed in all but three counties in West with Ray Jones Tennessee rabbit season is in SEND THOSE PHOTOS TO full bloom. numberonecoach@hotmail.com There is competition for or 731-694-8614. rabbit hunting properties for most hunters until deer season concludes. However, when that time rolls around rabbit hunters get excited about the opportunity to get to their favorite places. Although rabbits are not as plentiful as in years past that passion to be in the fields with hunting partners and dogs reach a season high. Rabbit season is somewhat short because of early season difficulties such as warm weather and location where rabbits are abundant. There are many reasons why rabbits are in short supply but most agree that coyotes and hawks have a great deal to do with it. For those who intend to get in on the fun please don’t wait too long because the season is winding down. The Great Outdoors of West Tennessee is waiting for you and the kid to come on out and enjoy the fun before it is too late. Photo is Bernard Watkins holding a swamp rabbit.

Suspects Arrested and Charged with First Degree Murder in January Homicide Jackson police have charged Elijah Garrison and Tierra Wilson in the homicide of D’Andre Holmes, 24, of Jackson. Garrison, 25, and Wilson, 24, both of Jackson, were arrested around 8:30 a.m., today in Knoxville, TN, by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. They are in custody at the Knox County Jail and will soon be transported back to Jackson. The charges stem from a Jan. 5th shooting outside Magnolia Landing Court Apartments. Jackson police Investigators developed information that Garrison and Wilson were involved, and both have been charged with First Degree Murder. Garrison faces an additional charge of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon. Information from Crime Stoppers, combined with other evidence in the case, contributed to the suspects’ arrests. The Jackson Police Department encourages anyone else with info on this or any other crime to contact JPD at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 424-8477 (TIPS).
In 2016, Corona posted a photo of herself on Facebook wearing a blue dress and a “thin blue line” US flag that honors law enforcement officers. “I would like this photograph to serve as my gratitude for all those law enforcement men and women who have served, who are currently serving, and those who have died in the line of duty protecting our liberties in this great country. #LawEnforcement #Blueline #Thankyou #Lausphotography
2 FEMALE ROOKIE POLICE OFFICERS HAVE BEEN SHOT AND KILLED IN 2 DAYS POSTED 11:59 PM, JANUARY 12, 2019, BYÊCNN WIRES A female rookie police officer was shot dead Thursday night, the second killed in the last two days in the United States. Davis police Officer Natalie Corona, 22, was responding to a triple-car crash in the Northern California city when a gunman on a bicycle shot her multiple times, Davis police Chief Darren Pytel told reporters. “This clearly to us looks like an ambush,” Pytel said Friday evening. After shooting Corona multiple times, the suspect reloaded his firearm and fired toward a firefighter and a fire truck that were also responding to the traffic collision. Then the suspect fled, Pytel said. Her killing occurred a day after Shreveport police Officer Chatéri Payne was shot dead at a home in that Louisiana city as she prepared to start her shift. Corona died at the UC Davis Medical Center in nearby Sacramento. “Despite the lifesaving efforts that were provided by firefighters who were immediately adjacent because the primary fire station is right near where this happened, they weren’t able to save her,” Pytel said. A manhunt for the shooter ended hours later when police found him dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a home in Davis. He had left a backpack at the crime scene with information that led the officers to his home, Pytel said. In a press release Saturday, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office identified 48-year-old Kevin Douglas Limbaugh as the suspect in Corona’s killing.

DEATH PROBED IN LOUISIANA In the Louisiana shooting, Chatéri Payne, who also was newly hired, was in uniform and getting ready for work when she was gunned down at a Shreveport home, police Chief Ben Raymond said. No one had been arrested in the shooting, and it is not known what led to the killing, Raymond said. Payne was hired in July as an academy cadet and graduated in November. Raymond said her academy classmates grieved over her death. “This was the job that she was meant to do. She enjoyed serving,” Raymond said. Gov. John Bel Edwards weighed in on the fatal shooting, calling the death a “tragic loss.”
In November, Payne made a post on Facebook about joining the police force. “Long Days. Aching Nights. But I decided to stand tall on my dream. Main lesson taught was to never lose sight of who you are and where you come from,” she wrote. “The main thing is to build on who you are and to become an influential and better person for those whom may surround me or I may encounter.” - By Joe Sutton and Joe Sterling, CNN

Birmingham police sergeant killed, 2nd officer critically injured in shooting outside downtown club. Birmingham Police Sgt. Wytasha Carter, a 44-year-old husband, father and U.S. Air Force veteran, was shot to death Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019 while trying to arrest a suspected car burglar. A second officer was critically injured. The sergeant is the 52nd Birmingham police officer killed in the line of duty. The last time an officer was killed was June 17, 2004 when Robert Bennett, Harley Chisholm and Carlos Owens were gunned down in an ambush outside an Ensley drug house. “This is one of the roughest hours of your career.’’ said Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith. “There’s not a chief, not an officer that ever wants to have to deal with this. This is a very very difficult thing for the family, and for the department.

BOOKS & BOWTIESÊ Books & Bowties Book Club held their first meeting on January 12, 2019 at the Jackson-Madison County Library in Downtown Jackson, TN. Books & Bowties is the brother book club to Butterflies & Bookworms. Both Book Clubs were created by Angela Nelson Parks, local event planner (One and The Same Event Planning).
