The only time crappie fishermen get really with Ray Jones excited is spring and fall. That is because crappie SEND THOSE PHOTOS TO season reaches its’ peak during those seasons. I numberonecoach@hotmail.com did a little research and found that a few simple or 731-694-8614. tactics can make the difference between a successful trip and a social outing. Crappie are not as aggressive in fall as in spring so experts advise slowing the retrieve down and fishing more vertical. Also since crappie look up for their bait you should allow your bait to drop much slower than in spring. While some believe that color presentation is most important others feel that smaller size baits are not as intimidating during colder waters. When you find the depth they are suspended at your chances of catching good numbers increase. The main thing is to realize that this is prime time is the Great Outdoors of West Tennessee to catch the slab crappies feeding up for winter. Family members of Atatiana Jefferson speak The community leaders, who stood behind a podium and took turns addressing those in out at a press conference. attendance, spoke about what the series of shootings means to black residents — the fear they represent. How a black person could feel nervous to pick up the phone to call police. The Rev. Michael Bell, of Greater Saint Stephen, said the shooting evokes the killing ofÊBotham Jean, the black 26-year-old man who was killed in his apartment by Amber Guyger, a white Dallas police officer who entered his apartment last year thinking it was her own. Guyger was found guilty of murder Oct. 2 andÊsentenced to 10 years in prison. Bell said he wants people to call the shooting in Fort Worth what it is — murder — and to see the officer who fired the shot held accountable. He also said Mayor Betsy Price and Police Chief Ed Kraus need to address systemic racism within the police department. “The Fort Worth police murdered this woman. They murdered this woman in her own house,” Bell said. “And now, African Americans, we have no recourse. If we call the police, they will come and kill us. And we know that.” Price and City Manager David Cooke canceled a trip to Phoenix they had planned to begin Sunday to attend economic development meetings because of Jefferson’s death. On Saturday evening, Price released a statement about the shooting. “Writing a statement like this is tragic and something that should never be necessary. A young woman has lost her life, leaving her family in unbelievable grief. All of Fort Worth must surround Atatiana Jefferson’s family with prayers, love and support,” Price said in the statement. “Chief Kraus and his command staff are acting with immediacy and transparency to conduct a complete and thorough investigation.”

Director of Alumni Affairs Named to 2019 Leadership Jackson Class Jackson, Tenn. - The Jackson Chamber is pleased to announce the 2019 Leadership Jackson class with Lane College Director of Alumni Affairs Braylin Laster among the nominees.Leadership Jackson is a development program for community members who demonstrate leadership potential. Sponsored by the Jackson Chamber, the program is an opportunity for local professionals to learn more about the community and the challenges it faces. The class participated in a full day information session in early September to get acquainted and find out more about what their Leadership Jackson experience entails. “To say that I’m excited for this year’s class would be an understatement,” Shelby McKelvey, Co-Chair and Community Advocate, said. “We have a fantastic group of talented people. It’s going to be fun as we learn them and see their leadership skills grow. Leadership Jackson does a phenomenal job of taking its students inside Jackson in ways that they’ve never experienced while building lifelong bonds and sharpening their leadership tools. We’ve been working hard to create a fulfilling experience so I’m glad that we’ll get to work with Class 41 very soon.” Class members meet weekly for sessions on various topics. A leadership skill-building component is incorporated into each session. Leaders in key areas, such as health care, criminal justice, economic development, quality of life, education and government will share an overview of the present state, challenges, and future vision. This information provides the class with a broad understanding of the interworkings of Jackson-Madison County and a big picture view. It also engages them in a self-analysis of where they can best make a positive impact by getting involved or by being a resource for their company or sphere of influence. “I’m extremely honored and humbled to be nominated to the 2019 Leadership Class,” Laster said. “To be among such a distinguished group of professionals from all around the Jackson community is truly an honor and I will do my best to help improve the lives of all of the residents of the Jackson-Madison “The Peace of Christ Be With You” community while Pass the Peace, Please representing Lane WE EXTEND TO YOU A MOST WARM AND HEARTY WELCOME. LOCAL ORGANIZATION HOPES TO INSPIRE CHILDREN, TEENS Teri Jelks - wbbjtv7.com JACKSON, Tenn. — A local organization is rooted in its mission to inspire children and teens in underserved communities around the Hub City. One woman is hoping to change the world, one child at a time. “I saw that our children, our black children, had nothing to do. They were getting killed or going to jail,” said Juanita Jones, the founder of Keep My Hood Good. That’s when Jones decided to take action. “God placed it on my heart to help the children, and that’s when I formed Keep My Hood Good on the corner of Lincoln Circle and Lincoln Street April of 2009,” Jones said. For the 10th anniversary of Keep My Hood Good, the organization hosted a special banquet to highlight the Councilman Ernest Brooks with children and teens who have been volunteering in the Executive Director of Keep My community. They’re just doing a little bit of everything,” said Brian James, a our community. #mentorship board member of the organization. The keynote speaker of the banquet was Miss Black Tennessee 2019 Alexis Cole, and she had a special message for the children of Keep My Hood Good. “Whatever you go through in life, or whatever situations come your way, as long as you stay true to who you are, it doesn’t matter what anyone says about you, thinks about you or perceive you to be,” Cole said.

Stephanie Fernandez- wbbjtv7.com JACKSON, Tenn. – School board members met for their combined work session and monthly board meeting. It was a full house inside the Jackson-Madison County School board room, Monday afternoon. Some came to show their support for Jackson-Madison County School board member, Doris Black. “I felt empowered,” said Black. “I really did because all I saw was the naysayers but now I know that people are really looking and listening to the news and figuring out exactly what is the truth.” At the meeting, the public shared their thoughts on the petition to recall Black. “It feels good to know that you have support. People are telling me that they really want to help and support so I know that I can take it to court,” said Black. School board members also discussed the Jackson Central-Merry High and Madison Academic High School building projects. “There will be a new structure with JCM, but a lot of it is renovations that is going to take place inside with windows, doors, infrastructure, paint, wall coverings and things of that nature because structure itself is sound,” said interim superintendent for JMCSS, Ray Washington. “No reason to tear down something that is good. If we tore down that whole building to try to rebuild it would cost $40 million.”

Before making big changes, Tennessee plans six community hearings on the future of school turnaround. The purpose of these meetings is to gather feedback from families and communities with Priority and Achievement School Districts (ASD) on what they want to be true in their schools. (Oct.30 Liberty Tech Magnet HS; 5:30-7:00pm.) I truly appreciate the feedback that I receive on the articles I write for The CrimeSEEN Examiner Newspaper as well as the opportunity to be able to do so. It is my desire to cast a positive light on what is taking place in JMCSS. There is a reason why Nashville is taking interest in what is going on in Jackson as there is clearly progress beyond the numbers! Good News is not hard to find! Isaac Elementary has exceeded growth expectations from the new curriculum. The 2018-2019 portfolio scores indicate that all Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First grade teachers met or exceeded the amount of growth expected by their students. Dr. Jared Myracle has emphasized that curriculum matters and administrators have urged educators, teachers, and parents to trust the process. Jackson, Madison County move forward with plans to build new schools. This shows commitment from leaders in the community to build a strong, vibrant, and resilient workforce as we move into the next decade! You have city, county, school system all on the same page and all with skin in the game. The funding for the publicprivate partnership is at 80% and according to Julia Ewoldt of GMWT, mayors Conger and Harris say the projects will start this year even if they don’t get the remaining money. The plan is to build is to rebuild Jackson-Central Merry on its current campus and Madison Academic as a dual enrollment high school on the University of Memphis Lambuth campus. (Lasherica Thornton, The Jackson Sun). Councilman Johnny Dodd is the city liaison to the Community Redevelopment Agency.

Why this matters. Post-secondary education is becoming more and more important with each passing year. According to Jeff Sisk (TCAT Jackson): $43k for Industrial Maintenance Techs, $45k for Auto Techs, $50k for Truck Drivers. Those are base salaries without overtime-which all get. TCAT Jackson has Tool & Die grads making 90k in Jackson (with 8-10 years’ experience). No student loan debt! According to the TMA (Tennessee Manufactures Association) there are 350,650 manufacturing employees across the state earning an average of $71k annual compensation.

“Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary.” ~Jim Rohn I promote literacy and workforce development and let us not forget about UT Promise which offers a last dollar scholarship to students seeking a Bachelor’s degree. The opportunity is out there, the question is what are you going to do with it? I would be remiss if I did not mention the $10,000 grant received by The Jackson-Madison Library to work with JEA and The Jackson Housing Authority to install free WiFi access within three JHA neighborhood community centers.

BLACK-BALLED State leaders respond to concerns about recall election October 14, 2019ÊÊClint Eiland - wbbjtv7.com JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson-Madison County School Board member Doris Black is the first person to face a recall election in Madison County under House Bill 0983, which Gov. Bill Lee signed back in May. Two local leaders who supported the law, Sen. Ed Jackson and Rep. Chris Todd, said they have no comment about the specific situation with Doris Black, but they’re encouraged to see the law being used as intended. “I’m very pleased with how the citizens have responded to this opportunity for them to get a freedom and a liberty back that I thought they already had, and utilize that for the exact purpose that they wanted–to hold their leaders accountable,” Rep. Todd said. “To this point it has been used as intended. There just needed an ability in this county,” Sen. Jackson said. Doris Black has suggested in previous interviews that she was considering legal action, and might hire attorneys to challenge the law itself. “When I decide if I’m going to take it to court, and if I am going to obtain legal counsel, then that is the appropriate time,” Black said in a September interview. The bill only applied to Madison County, which experts say might pose a problem if challenged in court. “It may be what’s considered a local legislative bill, and under state law, a local legislative bill has to begin with the county commission providing a 2/3rds vote asking for the bill,” Sean Evans, a political science professor at Union University, said. Rep. Todd and Sen. Jackson say they’re expecting a legal challenge at some point. “Now whether its the current situation or not, I’m not really sure, but I certainly expect there to be a challenge at some point,” Rep. Todd said. “There’s a good chance there will be. We’ll see. That’s something that I can’t go into any details on, because theyre probably will be,” Sen. Jackson said. If the law is deemed unconstitutional, the earliest a new law could pass is February 2020.
