COVID-19 AND THE OUTDOORS
West Tennessee OUTDOORS
With many businesses opening back up people are with Ray Jones on the move again. However, SEND THOSE PHOTOS TO that increases the odds of numberonecoach@hotmail.com coming into contact with an or 731-694-8614. infected person. A trip to the local stores can tell us that some people are observing guidelines while many others are still not. It is recommended that we stay six feet apart and wear face coverings. There is not enough scientific facts about how far the virus can travel in certain wind conditions so it is our responsibility to continue to follow the guidelines even in the outdoors. When traveling through parking lots where there is walking traffic it is a real possibility that the virus could be transmittable in the air. Although testing is in place it is a good idea to assume that the numbers are just that, numbers. Let’s do our part and help keep the Great Outdoors of West Tennessee safe to protect ourselves and the people around us by observing the guidelines.

TBI AGENTS MAKE SIXTH ARREST IN 2016 MURDERS OF FATHER AND SON
SOUTH CAROLINA GIRL, 13, SEXUALLY ASSAULTED ON FACEBOOK LIVE
TOONE – A sixth person has been indicted in a 2016 double homicide in Toone as the result of an ongoing investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Hardeman County Sheriff’s Office.
The indictments stem from the investigation into the homicides of Joe Robertson, 38, and his 13-year-old son Jarvarrie Robertson.Ê The two were found shot to death at their Naylor Road home on October 21, 2016.Ê At the request of former 25th District Attorney General Mike Dunavant and current DAG Mark Davidson, TBI Special Agents joined the investigation that, in 2016 and 2017, resulted in the arrest and indictments of five individuals:Ê Andrian Bullock, Damein Hamer, Jeremy Hamer, Marquenton Williams, and Erica Beard.Ê Each of their cases are at various stages of the judicial process.Ê As this has remained an active and ongoing investigation, Agents developed additional information that identified Nakera Hamer as another individual responsible for the crimes. Today (May 6), Nakera Hamer, who is currently incarcerated in Georgia on unrelated federal narcotics offenses, was officially served arrest warrants charging him with one count of Especially Aggravated Burglary, one count of Especially Aggravated Robbery, and two counts of First Degree Murder.Ê He is now awaiting extradition back to Hardeman County to be formally charged.

byÊDREW TRIPP | WCIV Staff - Wednesday, May 6th 2020 Jonah Fishburne [L], Tasheen Walker, suspects in sexual assault of 13-year-old girl in North Charleston shown on Facebook Live. (Charleston County Detention Center) NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCIV) — North Charleston Police in South Carolina have arrested two men in connection to the sexual assault Monday night, May 4, of a 13-year-old girl with “diminished mental capacity.” The reported assault was livestreamed on the internet via Facebook Live, police say. Tasheen A. Walker, 20, and Jonah D. Fishburne, 18, both remain in jail at the Charleston County Detention Center following their arrests late Monday night on charges of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. North Charleston Police say they were alerted to the reported sexual assault incident when people began reporting the Facebook Live video to them. An officer viewed the video, and commented asking anyone with information to call 911. Police say multiple people called 911 to give details, which led officers to an abandoned residence. There, officers say they met with the victim and her mother, who were both visibly upset. NCPD officers said the victim told them she was walking to her grandmother’s house around after hanging out with her boyfriend, when a group of five males asked her to come over to them. When she went over to them, police say the victim told them the group of males grabbed her and forced her into the abandoned house, where the group began assaulting her in the basement of the home. Police said the victim identified two of her attackers as Walker and Fishburne, but says she didn’t recognize the other three.
On Monday (May 4th), the Hardeman County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Nakera LaShawn “Keith” Hamer (DOB: 11/27/75) with various counts, including first degree murder.Ê

GA SHOOTERS ARRESTED Shooters Finally Arrested For Killing 25-Year Old Black Man Who Was Jogging Through His Own Neighborhood NationwideÊ— Gregory McMichael and his son, Travis McMichael, two of the men involved in the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, have finally been arrested. Arbery was killed back in February in Glynn County, Georgia, by the men who pursued himÊbecause they thought he “looked suspicious.” Arbery, a 25-year old African American who was a known jogger in the area, was reportedly jogging through the neighborhood when the men decided that they were going to make a citizen’s arrest because they suspected him to be a robber. Gregory says that before the situation escalated that he asked Ahmaud to “stop” so that they could talk. But video shows that a lot more happened then just that. The video shows that Arbery was aggresively being pursued by the two men in their vehicle. One of the men had a shot gun, and as Arbery appeared to be defending himself, he was then shot at least twice. It took more than two months for it to happen, but after the video was leaked and the case began receiving high profile attention from the like of Democratic Nominee Joe Biden,ÊCNNÊreports that the two aggresors were finally taken into custody and booked into the Glynn County Jail. Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump said that it was outrageous that it took this long for the pair to be arrested. “It’s a travesty of justice that they enjoyed their freedom for 74 days after taking the life of a young Black man who was simply jogging,” he told reporters.

Grief is such a personal journey. I’d say it’s a spiritual journey—even— for the loved one who has passed on and for the living who are left behind. Jemilla grapples with the loss of her brother, Bubba and his eternal fate. One supernatural encounter shatters any doubt about the power of love.Ê There are so many layered lessons, meanings, and unanswered questions in this short story. Jemilla, which means Paradise in Arabic, discover what she believes is the answer to a question about Bubba’s final resting place. I hope The Wooden Bench leaves readers in wonder and invites discussion about grief, how we each cope differently, and the journey to find a new norm. The short story also has a guide at the end with reflective questions. Sheneka wants to provide quick reads with long-lasting impact. As a full-time professional, wife, mom, and doctoral candidate she understands how life can pull us away from things we enjoy most like reading. Sheneka’s short stories allow indulgence in a good story without the guilt about all the things you could be doing instead of reading. Her books provide thought-provoking plots that can be read in 30-minutes or less.ÊSheneka plans to release another book soon called Little Colored Girl.In The Wooden Bench you get a glimpse into how lonely grief can be even when you’re not alone.

May 6, 2020ÊÊClint Eiland - wbbjtv7.com WEST JACKSON, Tenn. — The Madison County Sheriff’s Department is asking for more money–despite the uncertainty around the coronavirus.
“We’re sitting here, pulling from other departments, to increase the fund balance, because we feel threatened by a department that’s hogging the budget. It’s not fair to the taxpayers,” said Karen Bell, the Finance Director for Madison County. Wednesday afternoon’s budget hearings for Madison County resulted in arguments over the sheriff’s budget. In the meetings, which are scheduled throughout the week, departments are being asked to make their request for next year’s budget. Sheriff John Mehr proposed a budget increase of over $2.8 million. An almost 30% increase from the 2019-2020 fiscal year. “You have to understand that the budget that we’re under right now is the budget that y’all placed, that we agreed to,” said Madison County Sheriff John Mehr. The county instructed every department to try and cut three percent for this coming year. The sheriff says he did cut three percent. But it was from his budget request, not his current operating budget. Members of the commission were not happy with his proposal. “Your smaller departments have done an excellent job with their budgets on trying to make reductions. With the exception of one player in the game,”Bell said. This comes only a day after the sheriff’s department revealed their new medical care provider for the jail would cost more than planned — several hundred thousand dollars more. The sheriff’s budget has big increases in categories like medical supplies for inmates, vehicle maintenance, and food supplies. Bell said most departments have complied with the county’s request to factor in cuts. The nearly $12 million request would increase the sheriff’s budget to almost $25 million. “We’ve made many reductions. Many, maybe painfully for some of these, I don’t know. To build up a fund balance to allow one department to have the funds,” Bell said. The sheriff is currently engaged in a lawsuit with the county over a budget that he says does not allow him to fulfill his obligations. Over the past six years, the sheriff’s budget has gone up $6.5 million, more than any other department in the county by far.
