of the benefits of eating vegetables. Home gardening can be quite satisfying if proper maintenance is done to keep it productive. This time of year keeping grass and insects out are the major steps to be taken to assure a great harvest. There is no substitute for the hoe and keeping weeds down unless you use herbicides but there are some home remedies for insects and other pest. A little research and a phone call to UT Extension Agency will have you well on your way to a healthy garden. When you work in your garden take the kids so they too can cash in on the benefits from home grown fruits and vegetables.

PERSON OF INTEREST ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND SHOOTING June 6, 2018 - WBBJ-TV7 -TRENTON, TN A 21-year-old Humboldt man was arrested Tuesday night in connection to a shooting death over Memorial Day weekend. Marlon Anderson was shot and killed on Memorial Day weekend, but Trenton police say they have a person of interest in custody. Investigators say 21-year-old Cornelius Pledge from Humboldt was arrested Tuesday night. Right now, he’s charged as a felon in possession of a firearm. “There has been a lot of evidence gathered. There has been a lot of people that have come forward. We’ve identified several people of interest,” Trenton Police Chief Bill Cusson said. It’s been over a week since the shooting took place at the corner of Lexington Street and Second Street, and Trenton police say even though they do have a person in custody, their job is far from over.

Ripley - Community Impact Operation RIPLEY – A joint investigation involving the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Drug Investigation Division along with the Ripley Police Department, 25th Judicial District Drug Task Force, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives resulted in the indictment of 31 individuals on various drug related offenses. In the early morning hours on June 7th, 19 individuals were arrested without incident during a round up in Ripley and the surrounding areas. An additional four (4) of the 31 individuals indicted as a result of this investigation were already in custody at the time of this round up. At this time, 23 of the 31 individuals targeted in this operation are now in custody. During the course of this nearly year-long investigation, numerous purchases of illicit drugs were conducted from multiple individuals. In addition to predominantly purchasing crack cocaine; methamphetamine, marijuana and illegally diverted prescription pills were also purchased during the course of the operation. “The TBI will continue to prioritize community impact operations like this by attacking the scourge of the illicit drug trade that has crippled so many of our rural areas in this State,” said TJ Jordan, TBI’s Assistant Director for the Drug Investigation Division. “Let me be clear, we’re coming for you, regardless of whether you are dealing in small or large amounts, you will no longer be allowed to sit back and profit from the torment and havoc you are wreaking in our communities.” “We are very thankful for the tremendous work by the TBI, with the assistance of local Lauderdale County law enforcement agencies, to investigate and charge drug dealers in Lauderdale County who are poisoning our communities,” said 25th District Attorney General Mark Davidson. “We are dedicated to combating the opioid epidemic and illegal drugs with aggressive law enforcement and prosecution, and these cases are a reflection of that commitment.” All those arrested were transported to the Lauderdale County Jail and have various bond amounts based on their individual cases. The TBI and Ripley Police Department received additional assistance on the arrests from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), DEA, U.S. Marshals, Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, and 25th Judicial Task Force. PLAN AHEAD : WHY PLAN AHEAD? Peace of Mind Many who have undergone the emotional strain of arranging a funeral within hours of losing a loved one have made the choice to pre-plan their own funeral. Doing so lifts the burden from their loved ones by relieving decision-making pressure at a time of grief and emotional stress. Personal Choice Funeral arrangements are a deeply personal choice. Preplanning provides you with the time needed to make practical, detailed decisions that reflect your standards, lifestyle, taste and budget. And we assure you and your family that the choices you make will be carried out as planned. Lower Costs When you finalize your plan, we can advise you of the total cost. You do not have to set aside funds for your plan, but doing so protects you against escalating funeral costs. By locking in today’s funeral costs and ensuring that the necessary funds are set aside, you help relieve yourself of unnecessary future worry and your survivors of an unexpected expense. Questions? Governor Bill Haslam joined by State Senator Ed Jackson, Downtown Ricky Brown, and State Representative Jimmy Eldridge at the Casey Jones Village recently recognizing the progress of the “Highway Improvement Act” which is already affectiving the Casey Jones Village entrance positively. “We are pleased with the legislatures continued support of much needed highway improvements including the Casey Jones access and improvements to Interstate 40 in Madison County which will include 6 lane traffic flow and improvements to all exits,” said Representative Eldridge.
Drug Take Back and Document Shredding Event most successful yet State Representative Jimmy Eldridge’s annual “documents shredding and old medicine take back day has again “turned into a tremendous success” said Eldridge. “We’ve been sponsoring this event over 10 years now and the attendance and participation continues to grow into hundreds of citizens taking advantage of this public service,”add Eldridge.Ê “This years event drew hundreds of citizens to the City of Jackson’s Fairgrounds for disposal and shredding of documents.” “Representative Eldridge partners with the Tennessee Department of Insurance and Commerce consumer affairs division bringing the shredding companies to west Tennessee for the public disposal and shredding of documents citizens want to dispose of, said Downtown Ricky Brown, area Field Representative for Jimmy Eldridge” Eldridge also enlists law enforcement agencies including the Jackson Police Department along with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office in the accepting of outdated prescription drugs for proper disposal thus keeping the stress out of the public waste water systems,” said Brown.
