PET CARE DURING SUMMER HEAT
these extremely hot days so is it important for our pets. Some basic practices are the same for any Rock & Roll after a shower. outdoor pet this time of the year. Water is the key nutrient which must be kept clean and fresh . Insects tend to hatch in water buckets before you can even detect them so changing it daily is essential. When the heat of the day is in you can cool the animals down by placing ice cubes into the drinking water. Worms can creep in on animals without any signs and cause them to be unhealthy and the heat can double their risk of fatality during the hot days. Other common sense activities such as spending time with them early and late allows them to stay cool in shade at the hottest times of the day and giving them showers of some sort. Just remember that animals can have heat strokes just as humans can so we must be proactive to help keep our pets safe in the Great Outdoors of West Tennessee.

DUNLAP – Special Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have arrested and charged a now former jailer at the Sequatchie County Jail, who stands accused of bringing methamphetamine into the facility. On August 6th, while interviewing Nicole Brianna Harmon (DOB 213-1998) at the jail in connection to another, ongoing TBI investigation, Special Agents saw the woman attempt to hide a small, white bottle from their view. When questioned about the bottle’s contents, Harmon admitted it contained methamphetamine and also admitted she previously brought the drug into the facility. The department subsequently terminated Harmon’s employment. Agents subsequently arrested the Dunlap woman and charged her with one count of Introduction of Contraband into a Jail and booked her into the jail, from which authorities released her after she posted $10,000 bond.

Moving Forward Together! DON POLLEY I just read the report from SCORE (State collaborative on reforming education) as they reflected on their last 10 years of improvements in education in Tennessee. I was encouraged by the report as they have focused on improvements in public education. They brought together educators and discussed what was going well and how they could improve and make it better. Their commitments were based on evidence and they were willing to listen. SCORE has been a steady hand over the last 10 years and they contend that the future has never looked brighter in Tennessee. Now let’s look at what is going on in JMCSS. New schools have opened up with more in the works for the not to distant future. JMCSS continues academic improvements for the second year. They have a detailed article posted on their website or you can access by simply downloading the JMCSS app for your smartphone device as I did. It is available for apple or android devices. This year there will be continuity in curriculum across the school system to benefit those students in a mobile type situation. The teachers and administrative staff are excited about the prospects for continuing improvements this school year. I took advantage of the opportunity to attend the prayer service at the Civic Center prior to the beginning of school and as Dr. Dub Oliver stated; “We came to be encouraged; we leave ready to serve.” Dr. Logan Hampton emphasized the power and importance of prayer. I noted there were a lot of empty seats and Don Polley with JMCSS Superintendent, Ray Washington wondered where the parents were that evening. I also attended meeting held at the First United Methodist Church which invited parents to discuss their perspective on the current state of public schools in JMCSS. Once again there were some excellent points were brought up (you can reference an outstanding article on the meeting by Lasherica Thornton) and moderator Dr. Frank Anderson from Union University stated; “We can’t listen to each other till we get to know each other.” To be fair the turnout may have been impacted by location, timing, and first week of school. They plan to have another meeting and if you are interested or have concerns as to best location and time feel free to contact Ms. Jenci Spradlin at jenci.spradlin@gmail.com. You can also go to the FB page JMCSS Forward Together to find out more. I urge parents to get involved and if I can help let me know how? Superintendent Ray Washington and JMCSS will need parental support in order to succeed in their efforts. They are willing to listen so please take this opportunity to speak up and share your thoughts. We all want the same thing and that is what is best for all as we move forward together! #TrustTheProcess BY
