Trail ridding is West Tennessee has always been a very poplar activity. Many horseback riders have a passion for it and have events that bring people from all around. There is a thrill as well as a feeling of freedom while mounted on an equine. Horse and rider becomes one and the relationship is a trust factor that you will not lead it to danger and the horse will safely transport you. It’s an unwritten agreement between the horse and the rider. For those who do not have your own horse you can still ride good broke horses at places like Chickasaw and Shelby Farms. Trail horses that are rented are always ridden a lot and are very gentle even for people who are inexperienced around horses. So get on out to The Great Outdoors of West Tennessee and give the kids a new experience and take them horsebackÊ riding. PHOTO IS LOVIE MARABLE RIDING ARISTOCRAT.

LANE ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY CHANGES TO IN-PERSON CLASSES AND RESIDENTIAL LIFE On Friday, September 4, 2020, Lane College announced that it will close the residence halls and cease in-person classes and activities until September 21, 2020 upon receiving information that a cluster of students tested positive for COVID-19.Ê At present, there are 18 students who have tested positive for COVID-19. Pursuant to the local and state health departments and CDC guidelines, each person in contact with the infected person must quarantine for 14 days. after attacking his girlfriend during an argument because he accused her of cheating on him. On September 2nd, Memphis Police Officers Smith and Juarez were dispatched to Freeway Express at 1058 South Parkway East, regarding a domestic situation that occurred at 1304 Cummings Street. Tara Lawson explained she has been living off and on with her boyfriend, Clint Murphy, at his residence 1304 Cummings Street for the past eight months. Murphy got angry with her and accused her of cheating on him. He then demanded she leave his house, As Lawson began gathering her belongings, she asked him to take out the window unit that she purchased. Murphy got angry because he didn’t want her to take the window unit. Murphy then began to punch Lawson repeatedly in the face, causing her to lose hearing. He then continued to punch her all over her body. He took her phone and physically threw her out of the residence. In socks with no shoes, Lawson ran to the Freeway gas station where a customer offered her a phone to call the police. Memphis Fire department (MFD) showed up at the gas station and treated her. As the officer’s made contact with her she had a bloody abrasion on the right side of her neck, swelling/bruising over her body. Clint Murphy was arrested and charged with domestic assault. His bond was set at $3,500.

CONT’D FROM PAGE 1 The victim was pronounced dead, police added. Montclair officers were called at 1:02 p.m. Saturday to the shooting, finding one victim deceased next to his car and a second person with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. That victim was taken to a hospital. He is reportedly in stable condition, police said. “A few minutes after the initial call in Montclair, Chino Police Department received a call of a dead body being dropped off on a residential street in their city,” Montclair police said in the statement. “Officers determined the body was related to our shooting. After tentatively identifying the body, it was learned he was possibly wanted in Tennessee for an unrelated attempted murder.” Chino and Montclair police began a search for the suspects, who were believed to be in a 2019 black Dodge Charger. The suspects were arrested in the Arizona town of Wellton, located on Interstate 8 about 200 miles east of San Diego. “The three suspects were detained, questioned and arrested,” Montclair police said. Mr. Pirtle, Mr. Patrick and Mr. Agnew were booked without bail into on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and participating in a criminal street gang, according to San Bernardino County jail records. All three men are expected to appear in a West Valley Superior Court room on Wednesday, Sept. 9, records show. Anyone with information can call the Chino Police Department at 628-1234 or the Montclair Police Department at 448-3604.

Fentanyl-related overdoses have increased exponentially in Tennessee over the last few years. It is often illegally sold on the streets disguised as other drugs, where users unknowingly take too much and ultimately overdose. Together We LEARN I have been in school for a large percentage of my life but I must confess that this fall is one for the history books! I have had the unique experience of being a substitute teacher in Gibson County SSD. There is no questioning the excitement and enthusiasm of students as they populate the campus once again. I have been very impressed with their compliance with the mask mandate in the classrooms and in the hallways. As they move between classes and lunch, I am encouraged by their spacing to comply with having classes offered on campus. I am also on the role as substitute at JMCSS as well. At this time, they are continuing with distance learning with those that chose the on-campus option picking up packets to fill out and turn in. In my humble opinion, I believe that students need teachers in the classroom that are champions for education and use empathy, patience, and understanding in dealing with the current circumstances. I have shared with my students that we are living in a historic time in education and how they respond will make history!

A TALE OF TWO DISTRICTS I am overwhelmed at the job being done at JMCSS and have tremendous respect for Dr. Marlon King and his team for their skillful leadership during this pandemic. I just heard that there may be plans in the works to bring students back on campuses across the district. The students I have spoken with have told me that they did not like remote or distance learning as they learn more and better in a classroom. I suspect that by now many of the thousands of students at JMCSS that chose distance or Cyber School are having second thoughts about their decisions. I took a free course in Distance Learning offered by Trevecca Nazarene and can relate to their frustration dealing with a variety of issues that can and will occur. Mr. Eddie Pruett the Director of Schools at GCSSD has done a fantastic job of coordinating options and scheduling to enable his district to serve students and offer HQIM to meet academic expectations. The teachers have become very resourceful with technology, maintaining a presence in the classroom despite being at home. I am looking forward to the opportunity, to compare and contrast the different styles as we move forward through this season of “blended learning” in 20202021. With the help and support of parents and communities we can make this a successful academic year and one for the history books! Don Polley | Education contributorÊ- (Contact don@donpolley.com)

YOUR VOTE MATTERS OPINION “REVERSED RACISM!?” Humboldt are you going to allow for the stigma of reversed racism to be on your school system’s record? From my recollection there have been many black people in the Humboldt school system overlooked for central office positions, or even Êfor positions they were qualified for to be gifted to a white applicant or current white Êschool employee. There were no lawsuits from black school employees when white superintendents removed white school teachers creating jobs for them in the central office, or when black principals where demoted. Now suddenly because of an opportune allegation of alleged racism from a black person, opened a door for settlements & cave-ins, now everyone can scream racism to get their way! My advice to Humboldt City school system is to make sure every T is crossed & I is dotted, whatever you do because you are black & in charge, more is expected, all eyes are on you, you cannot afford to make any mistakes. Make sure you get those test scores up, be fair and come correct! Tracie Blakemore Claybrook

WHY DOES MY BEING BLACK PUT ME AT RISK IFÊ I CALL THE POLICE? Look ahere, I was born here, which according to the law automatically makes me an American. Why is there a shift in that law when u happen to be born BLACK? I go to work everyday, in spite of a pandemic,Ê I pay income tax, sales tax, wheel tax, license tax. If I owned a home b in the suburbs I’d pay property tax. I work and I pay. I pay for the same protection and police service that any other hard working American pays for. Why does my color make a difference in the amount of protection or the quality of service I receive?Ê Why does my being BLACK put me at risk ifÊ I call the police? They have said they’d either be terribly slow or terribly aggressive or not answer my call at all. That’s not what I’m paying for.Ê As an American I was taught that Justice was blind and fair, why is Stone free after telling Congress to kiss his ass?Ê Why is Weinstein still free and Cosby sits in prison? If Cosby drugged women that’s a crime, didn’t Harvey do the same? Is justice peeking from under her blindfold? Like Doc Rivers said we try to be “Good” citizens, Good Americans but America doesn’t love, respect or even see us as equals.” If a person hates me just because I’m BLACK that’s my definition of a racist. You need Jesus and here’s a hint he ain’t sitting in the WH. If you hate me for the actions of a few BLACKS, take that shit up with them. Go to Chicago with your war games, you won’t though. You feign disgust with BLACK on BLACK crime but you secretly love it. It just makes your goal of a black and brown genocide much easier. We are African Americans, BLACKS, Hispanics (who will berate the gringo, but will not vote against him) Native Indians and Middleastners, who have or am now paying their dues to be entitled to the same rights as White Americans. If there is a problem with that, America what are you going to do about it? The Coo Coos in charge need their meds. - Dwight L. Martin

PUBLIC NEMESIS CRITIC # 1 CON’T FROM PAGE 2 Big Rick is a regular on community feedback show every Sunday and also daily caller to every talk show in town. ÊHe’s a vocal critic of local government and always has a discouraging word for everyone. Big Rick sees us as a bunch of “country bumpkins” and cast doubt on everything in life. He sees no good in anything and believes local government is a bunch of crooks and out to get us. As it may sometimes be entertaining with his jolts gests and sometimes comical satire, stay tuned for Big Rick’s latest temper tantrums and railing about government waste and monies missing every where He is sometimes however accurate in his predictions to local investigations into government corruption. ÊHe railed two years about the City of Jackson’s Double dealings under the table deals with the Jackson baseball team and under the table invoices being paid by the Former Mayor Jerry Gist. ÊOnce in a while he does break a news story headline with inside information. Ê But mostly he tyrads center on misuse of public funds. ÊHe’s a strong critic of the Governments mask mandate and says he don’t spend any his money in Madison County anymore. We hear Big Rick, your daily rants are comical but would have more value if you could provide facts and numbers with your daily accusations against our elected officials. For a person who hates the community as much as Big Rick does, it begs the questions why are you here Rick? Ê“Even being disabled I try get out to my church Pentecostal Assembly- on Hays Avenue. My life is being a caretaker for my family and making sure they are well cared for. ÊAlong with being an animal lover, and pro football fan, I appreciate the CrimeSEEN Examiner Newspaper keeping us informed on news in the area. You guys are the best,” said Norman.

The Will Morrow Memorial Cancer Fund 5k Run/1 Mile Walk was held in honor of the late Will Morrow on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Union University. “All proceeds from the race go to the Will Morrow Memorial Cancer Fund to assist our neighbors in West Tennessee who are fighting cancer,” said his wife Veronica Morrow. “Will was a dedicated bus driver for Jackson Transit Authority for 17 years and was known for his gracious, kind spirit and his strong work ethic.” “Will Morrow trained me as a bus operator with JTA over 6 years ago, and he truly was a man of God and inspiration to me and everyone who knew him,” said Ricky Brown. “I will always feel blessed to know I had opportunity to know Will Morrow.” The Will Morrow Memorial Cancer Fund 5k Run/1 Mile Wakl welcomed FitAM and others to support such a worthy cause. This Bill reduces the requirements needed to provide Hair Braiding services in the State of Tennessee . The requirement is as follows: ÊObtain 16 hours of Health & Hygiene from a Cosmetology School or Educator. FORMER JACKSON POLICE OFFICER RECEIVES MEDAL FOR HEROIC ACT Please join Jackson Police in congratulating former Jackson Police Officer Cameron Preslar who is now an Investigator with the Chester County Sheriff Department for receiving the Jackson Police Department’s Life Saving Medal. On September 3, Chief Wiser presented a Lifesaving Medal to Officer Cameron Preslar for his act of heroism. Ê On November 24, 2016, Officer Preslar then assigned to the south Precinct, responded to 238 Summar Drive (Pathways) in reference to a 911 call to Central Dispatch where a man stated his son had stabbed an employee at Pathways. Officer Preslar arrived on the scene to find the Pathways’ employee down on the floor suffering from over one hundred (100) penetrating knife wounds to her body. Officer Preslar immediately began rendering life saving measures on the victim until relieved by EMS. The victim, eight (8) months pregnant at the time, was then transported to the Jackson Madison County General Hospital emergency room. Officer Preslar’s timely actions in rendering medical aid and comfort to the victim, who appeared at the time to have suffered mortal wounds, is a testament to his capabilities. Officer Preslar’s actions epitomize the best police officer qualities of motivation, commitment, and selfless service. His exceptional efforts that day saved two lives, that of the Pathways’ employee, and her then yet to be born child.

CONT’D FROM PAGE 4 groups with middle and high schoolers across the state to determine the awareness level of fentanyl and its dangers. Findings from these focus groups shaped the approach for the awareness effort, which is primarily directed toward 13- to 18-year-old Tennesseans. “In our research, we discovered a lack of education around the dangers and prevalence of fentanyl and opioids in general,” said Guy Jones, executive director of TNDAGC. “Our youth are our future. It is with that in mind that we work to inform them on the realities of addiction and overdose. We want this effort to be the start of the end of fentanyl and deadly drug abuse in Tennessee, and we must work together to make this goal

a reality.” “Our office remains committed to the protection of the good people of Tennessee,” Gen. Pickens said. “We will not step aside as dangerous opioids like fentanyl

continue to spread across the state. One of the main ways we can fight back is by educating our youth about the dangers of drug use, especially now with fentanyl becoming more prevalent and available.”

DUO FOUND WITH SAR9X AND DRUGS AFTER POLICE STOP AND SEARCH VEHICLE WITH NO PLATES September 6, 2020 -Seth Gann - Memphis SCOOP 20-year-old Kenyada Thomas was charged with handgun and drug possession, as well as having a firearm during a felony. 23year-old Okorie Thomas was charged with felony possession, registration, suspended license, tint, and failure to stop after being pulled over without a license plate. On September 2nd, Memphis Police Officers Bartlett, Lemmon, Booker, and Lucas were called to Perry and Dunn Avenue about felony drugs, narcotics, and weapons violations. A tan Hyundai Sonata, with tinted windows later shown to be at a 17% tint, was observed running a stop sign on Perry Avenue without tags displayed on the vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated and Officer Bartlett was able to smell marijuana in and around the vehicle. The driver, Okorie Thomas, lacked proof of registration or insurance as well as a driver’s license which had been suspended as of June 19th. Thomas was taken into custody as well as the rear passenger of the vehicle, Denisha Mason. Officers searched the vehicle to find a single live 9mm round on the driver’s seat, a clear plastic bag with 80 grams of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC,) a clear bag containing three white rocks, and a Sarsilma, SAR9X 9mm with an empty chamber, but fifteen live rounds in the magazine. Kenyada Thomas admitted possession of the drugs and weapons in the car and was taken into custody.
