POSTED 6:02 AM, AUGUST 21, 2018 - wreg.com Tamika and Teriqka Brewster MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A mother and daughter duo were charged with serious felony crimes after allegedly stealing from an 89-year-old woman. Tamika and Teriqka Brewster were both arrested on Monday and charged with identity theft, forgery and theft of property. Their alleged crimes came to light after the elderly woman’s bank contacted her in June saying someone had deposited her checks into a separate account. That account reportedly belonged to Tamika Brewster. The victim said that’s when she noticed that several checks were missing from her check book. Police didn’t say how the Brewsters allegedly obtained the checks, but did confirm surveillance video at their bank captured Teriqka Brewster depositing them into her mother’s account. The mother then withdrew the money from the account, police said. In all, the pair allegedly stole $3,600. Both later confessed to their roles in the crime.

WOMAN ACCUSED OF CRITICALLY INJURING JUVENILE WITHÊIRON POSTED SEPTEMBER 24, 2018 wreg.com Kierra Rodgers MEMPHIS, Tenn. —A 24-yearold woman was arrested after allegedly critically injuring a relative with an iron. The incident happened in the 4900 block of Royston Lane Saturday evening. According to police, Kierra Rodgers returned home from dinner around 7 p.m. and walked upstairs to get ready to go back out for the evening. At some point she and the male victim reportedly began arguing and eventually started “wrestling” each other in the upstairs hallway. Police said the 24-year-old became tired of “playing.” That’s when she said she grabbed the iron and threw it up in the air. It struck the juvenile’s head on the way down, she said. The juvenile was rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition. Rodgers was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault.

Democratic Senate Nominee BrownBeat By ‘Downtown’ Rickey Brown Phil Bredesen rickeylynnbrown@hotmail.com launches Republicans support of him Former Tennessee Governor and United States Senate democratic nominee Phil Bredesen is launching a new campaign featuring republicans supporting him for United States Senator.Ê Using a page out of his 2002 run for Governor, the democratic Senate nominee is featuring GOP people supporting his candidacy just days before his first debate against U S. Representative Marsha Blackburn. Ê The ad released Friday, features Nashville Predators Chairman Tom Cigarran, former Goodlettsville Mayor John Finch and others the Phil Bredesen campaign says are republicans.Ê One of the ads says “I’m a lifelong republican Finch says in the ad, and Cigarran calls Bredesen fiscally responsible and someone who “gets things done” Magi Curtis, a partner at a Brentwood based public relations firm, praises Bredesen for working with Republicans to “bring Volkswagen to town.” Bredesen’s new ad comes after he previously launched an online ad featuring clips of Tennessee Republicans including United States Senator Bob Corker, U. S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann and conservative commentator Scottie Nell Hughes, praising the former Governor.Ê This comes just days before the first televised debate with Rep. Marsha Blackburn, the first of two televised debates.Ê Blackburn and Bredesen on Tuesday are scheduled to part in a 6:00 p.m.Ê CDT debate at Cumberland University.Ê Blackburn campaign spokesman Abbi Sigler said , “This election is not about the past, its about the future.”Ê Eariler this month, Blackburn launched an ad featuring unnamed individuals claiming they voted for Bredesen as governor but can’t support his bid for the Senate.Ê Throughout his campaign, Bredesen has said “he will need the support from Republicans and independent voters to defeat Blackburn, Recent polls are still showing Bredesen with a slight lead of 2% over Blackburn at this point.

READER HAS CONCERNS OVER STEVE BOWERS RADIO I am a taxpayer of Jackson and I have a taxpayer question. I’d like to ask who is paying Steve Bowers salary on his morning radio show and why is JEA involved?Ê It seems that Mr. Bowers is a full-time employee with the utility company and receives a good salary and generous benefits. It appears to me that he is being allowed to work a second job but that second job seems to be indirect competition with his first job. I wonder if all of the people that he brings on his show is paying for advertising to JEA?Ê CONT’D ON PAGE 12

READER HAS CONCERNS -- CONT’D FROM 10 I believe the management should look into the situation in order to decide if the taxpayers are funding Steve Bowers twice. Is this double dipping in the public coffers?Ê Because I’m not sure who is the best person to answer this question I am sending it to several. If you know of someone you feel would be qualified to answer my question please forward this message to them. I would like to receive a response.Ê PAGE

Thank you - Elizabeth Mitchell liz1mitchell1@gmail.com

READER RESPONDS Thank you for including me in this question and I am sorry for not responding immediately. I am probably the least likely to give you a correct answer but I can give you an opinion. Ê Mr. Bowers has been associated with radio for years and I can tell you that the pay is not that great and, in his defense, it is not against the law to hold two jobs if his main position of income does not object and apparently, they have not. Secondly, unlike my friend George B. and myself, he has maintained a good working relationship with JEA, West Tennessee Health Care, and the city of Jackson, the trifecta of government growth, even during hard times. I know this doesn’t really answer your question because I am only slightly familiar with his second job. I have never been invited to his show and really don’t know how it is funded except that I am sure there is some advertising dollars flowing through the coffers. If that is the funding, then it is free enterprise at work. So technically, your argument shouldn’t be with Mr. Bowers who is attempting to help his family as best he can........ Maybe the question should be: why does JEA, West Tennessee Health Care or the city of Jackson advertise with any station since all three are municipalities and those funds come from taxes, even though they might disagree. Remember those organizations have little to no competition? ÊJust asking. I want to thank you again for including me in this.

Yours truly, Frank Neudecker tnisfun@icloud.com
