LABOR DAY CELEBRATIONS The Department of Labor along with other agencies dedicated a movement to recognize the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country. In 1884 congress passed an act declaring the first Monday of September as a holiday called Labor Day. West Tennessee is famous for parades and family picnics to celebrate appreciation of being Americans with jobs and freedom to live the American dream. For many it marks the end of summer and the beginning of activities like school starting and fall sports. Every street you drive down is filled with cars and gatherings in homes with grills smoking and children playing in the yards. I hope you and your kids enjoyed the Labor Day fun in the Great Outdoors of West Tennessee. Photo is a family enjoying Labor Day 2018.

Codys Owner commitments about Shooting “First and foremost, our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends of Braxton Watkins, and to all Gavontai McDonald those who were affected by the senseless violence that took place. The events that took place in, and around, Cody’s were not reflective of the guiding principles that our business was built upon. We will work closely with the City of Jackson, the Jackson Police Department, and other outside agencies, to strategically evaluate our business policies and procedures as we look towards the future. The safety, security and well-being of our customers and community is the prime focus of our evaluation. by FOX 17 News StaffÊTuesday, September 4th 2018 Santarius Bradford (METRO POLICE PHOTO) NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) —ÊA Nashville mom is facing an aggravated child abuse charge after reportedly hitting her 11-year-old in the face with a belt and body slammed him on a foot stool as punishment. Suspect Santarius Bradford’s son had run away to his grandmother’s house after the alleged abuse on Aug. 20. Police examined the boy and found multiple injuries on his face, including a swollen cheek and lip and a scabbed over mark on his elbow in the shape of a belt buckle. The boy told police his mom became upset with him and threw him on the bed, hitting him several times with a closed fist. Bradford then allegedly got a belt, wrapped it around her hand and hit the victim with it. The mom admitted to hitting the boy with a belt as punishment, Metro Police said, but denies she hit her son in the face with the belt buckle. Bradford also told police she “body slammed” her son on a foot stool and “roughed him up.” Bradford is behind bars in Nashville on a $50,000 bond.

Hardeman County prison incident CONT’D FROM PAGE 1 CoreCivic officials also did not answer questions about why there were several helicopters circling the facility, according to witnesses, even though only one inmate required medical help. Andrea Cole used to work at the prison and spent even more time working for the operator CoreCivic, formerly known as the Corrections Corporation of America, in other states including Ohio and Nevada. “You’re in a male prison. There’s a lot of testosterone. Men get into fights,” she said of the incident. But she defended her former employer. “CCA is a good company to work for. It has its up and has its downs,” Cole said. By ups and downs, she’s talking about a lot of recent news, including a lawsuit blaming under-staffing at Hardeman County Correctional Center for the death of an inmate and aÊclass-action lawsuitÊaccusing CoreCivic employees of withholding insulin from diabetic inmates at another CoreCivic location. In response, CoreCivic sent WREG the following statement: “CoreCivic is committed to operating safe, secure facilities, and a significant part of meeting that goal is hiring and retaining qualified staff. To attract talent, we pay competitive wages and offer excellent benefits including health, dental and vision insurance, as well as the opportunity to participate in our companysponsored retirement plan. We work to meet or exceed our daily staffing patterns, which are designed to ensure the safety of the facility and are reviewed and approved by our government partners.ÊWe don’t cut corners on care, staff or training, which meets, and in many cases exceeds, our government counterpart’s standards.”

JACKSON, Tenn. — Before Saturday’s Generals game, a member of the U.S. Navy received a prestige promotion. Baseball fansÊapplauded as Sheree WilliamsÊacquired the Senior Rank of Commander. It is not an advancement that can be easily attained.Ê It is the first promotion attained to become a senior officer in the military. In order to receive it, the President of the United States must grant it, then Congress must approve it. Williams was selected to throw the game’s first pitch. “I absolutely love Jackson General baseball,” she said, “throwing the first pitch was the best thing ever… besides my promotion.” Commander Sheree Williams has served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years and looks forward to what comes next.
