“CATCHING CATFISH”Ê

Thursday, 04-25-2019

West Tennessee OUTDOORS

One of the oldest traditions in West Tennessee is catfish fishing.Ê Catfish fishing can be quite challenging as well as with Ray Jones exciting when one of those SEND THOSE PHOTOS TO numberonecoach@hotmail.com monsters get on your line.Ê or 731-694-8614. Keeping him on the line requires preparation and skill. They generally start trying to get off as soon as they get on. I did a few surveys and most think that a 7 foot rod with 20 or stronger monofilament fishing line is a must. Bait Casting reels are the preferred reel but spin casting or spinning reels work well depending on what is most comfortable for you. There are many choices for catfish bait but cut bait, shad, night crawlers and liver will get you started. Sharp hooks help land the fish and the drag can always be tightened but it is difficult to loosen a drag because a too tight drag will pop the line.Ê Be sure to keep the line tight because any slack and he will get you hook, line and sinker. The first chance you get take the kids out for some cat fishing adventures in the Great Outdoors of West Tennessee. Photo is cat fish caught in Ripley, Tennessee.

LOCAL DOCTORS CAUGHT IN FEDERAL SWEEP DRUG TRAFFICKING AND TRADING SEX FOR DRUGS ALLEGED CSE News - DTRB A 2 year federal investigation into drug trafficking by medical professionals in the area has resulted in 11 area medical professionals charged with drug trafficking. ÊÊEight medical professionals appeared in United States federal court in Jackson Wednesday to face drug trafficking charges.Ê The indictments were a result of a two year federal investigation that resulted in charges of 60 medical professionals across five states more than half of which are in Tennessee. Ê Locally in Jackson area four doctors and two nurse practitioners face federal indictments including the famous “Rock Doc” Jeffrey Young. Two doctors a nurse practitioner and two pharmacists from Bells were also indicted with federal drug trafficking charges.Ê All who appeared in Federal Court Wednesday were held without bond pending detention hearings.Ê The judge expedited the hearings to Thursday at 2:00 pm after several defendants lawyers argued that holding the medical defendants without bond would negatively impact patients still seeking treatment at their various clinics.Ê The Rock Doc Jeffrey Young currently operates the GeneXis clinic in Jackson. Jackson Doctor Alexander Alperovich of the Advanced Cardiovascular and Vein Center oversaw Young’s practice from December 2015 until July 2016.Ê Alperovich was charged with conspiracy to distribute and dispense controlled substances along with Dr Andrew Rudin, who oversaw Young’s practice from August 2016 to January 2017.Ê Rudin did not appear in court.Ê Young issued prescriptions for drugs through his former business !”PreventaGenix” often to obtain money notoriety and sexual favors according to the indictments.Ê He allegedly prescribed drugs including hydrocodones oxycodone and fentanyl to friends family patients sometimes treating people while intoxicated on alcohol controlled substances or marijuana. His ability to prescribe controlled drugs allowed Young to promote his television pilot and podcast. Ê Also well known local family practice doctor Thomas Kelly Ballard of the Ballard Clinic is accused of illegally prescribing opioids in return for sexual favors from female patients including one pregnant patient who ultimately died.Ê Ballard faces 18 counts related to the unlawful distribution of controlled substances like oxycodone and hydrocodone including one count of distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death. “ Ê Ballard is in the process of hiring an attorney he said in court Wednesday” -- CONT’D ON PAGE 6

WHY I SUPPORT MEDICAL MARIJUANA Hundreds of thousands of Americans struggle with PTSD, addiction, and chronic pain. For some, current forms of treatment are ineffective and others carry a laundry list of dangerous and life-threatening side effects. Some of these individuals are veterans who are struggling to manage injuries related to their service, whether physical, emotional, or psychological. Which is part of the reason why the vast majority of veterans and their families are in favor of increasing research into and legalizing medical marijuana. When I’m asked about the legalization of medical marijuana I think about this statement from former Marine and two-time Purple Heart recipient Joshua James Frey: “Without medical marijuana I would be dead.” For many like Joshua, it helps them manage the symptoms associated with PTSD and chronic pain injuries. If a doctor believes that their patient can benefit from medical marijuana, then it isn’t any politician’s place to stop them. Join me and call for the legalization of medical marijuana >> Medical marijuana has also demonstrated promise in regards to managing symptoms resulting from epilepsy and chemotherapy. If legalizing medical marijuana can help manage a range of conditions that millions of Americans have — then there isn’t a question about it, we need to legalize medical marijuana. -- James Mackler<info@jamesmackler.com
