SHERIFF: BABY GIRL WAS STABBED, BURNED IN OVEN IN MISSISSIPPI; GRANDMOTHERÊCHARGED 505 S. Bells St., Alamo, TN
Gavontai McDonald
POSTED OCTOBER 16, 2018, BYÊSTACY JACOBSONÊ- wreg.com SHAW, Miss. — A woman is in custody after authorities say a little girl was stabbed, then placed in a hot oven in a home in Shaw, Mississippi. The girl’s grandmother, 48-year-old Carolyn Jones, has been charged with first-degree murder, Bolivar County Sheriff Kevin Williams said. Her bond has been set at $500,000. Williams said a family member of the girl found her body and called police to the Shaw home on Martin Luther King Drive around 7 p.m. Monday. Police said they called in Bolivar County deputies when they found the 20-month-old girl dead in the heated oven. He said the girl lived in the home, though they’d never responded to the address for any past criminal incidents. “While the official cause of death is still under investigation, authorities have reason to believe the child was stabbed and burned,” Williams said. The body has been sent to the state crime lab in Jackson for an autopsy, Williams said.

TENNESSEE MOM FINDS HORRIFIC VIDEO OF MEN RAPING 9-MONTH-OLD DAUGHTER, TWO CHARGED by FOX 17 News Two Tennessee men have been indicted after investigators say cell phone video shows them abusing a 9-monthold baby girl. Isiah Dequan Hayes, 19, and Daireus Jumare Ice, 22 are both charged with aggravated rape of a child and especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor. According toÊFOX 13 Memphis,Êthe attack was reported back in October 2016 after the baby’s mom found the video on her cell phone. The station reports the mom was able to identify Hayes through Facebook and turned that information over to police. He was subsequently arrested in February and allegedly admitted to the assault. Both suspects were indicted Tuesday. They are being held in Shelby County Jail.
Jeremy Carlton, left, and Christopher Clark
2 charged after dispute leads to gunshots in Gibson County October 16, 2018ÊÊWBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Staff GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Two men are now in custody after an argument that led to shots fired near Atwood. In a news release, the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded Monday to a report of shots fired at County Line Trailer Park in the 200 block of Atwood Highway. The release says deputies spoke with a man who said he and his brother got into an argument. Investigators say one brother, identified as Christopher Clark, 21, left the home where the argument started, but later returned with a .22-caliber pistol. The release says Clark shot at his brother, but did not hit him. The brothers had a fight after the shots were fired, and Clark threw the gun to another person, identified as Jeremy Carlton, 21, who hid the gun in his home, according to the release. Deputies found two .22caliber shell casings and a Ruger .22-caliber gun. Clark and Carlton are both in custody at the Gibson County Correctional Complex, where they are currently held without bond. Clark is charged with one count of reckless endangerment and one count of aggravated assault. Carlton is charged with tampering with evidence. Both men are scheduled to appear Oct. 23 in Trenton General Sessions Court.

OP-Ed Make Our Great Outdoors a Campaign Issue Michael Butler, CEO of Tennessee Wildlife Federation Michael Butler is the CEO of Tennessee Wildlife Federation, one of the largest and oldest organizations in Tennessee dedicated to the conservation of the state’s wildlife and natural resources. The race for governor is on. Both Karl Dean and Bill Lee are crisscrossing the state talking about the many challenges facing Tennessee and the opportunities to make the state a better place to live. However, one of the biggest issues affecting how Tennesseans live, work and play—particularly those in the state’s beautiful rural areas—is rarely mentioned. Tennessee’s wildlife and wild places. Our great outdoors directly supports hundreds of thousands of jobs in the state. Outdoor recreation in Tennessee generates an estimated $21.6 billion in consumer spending every year. Even the most remote counties in the state see a $1 million tourism economic impact. This economic activity is driven by Tennessee’s incredible natural resources: our wildlife, tens of thousands of miles of streams, hundreds of thousands of acres of lakes and reservoirs, low-lying wetlands, and rugged mountains. Beyond the money, countless Tennesseans personally value these resources. It’s what carries our hunting and fishing traditions from one generation to the next. It’s what makes our weekend adventures in the wild. Even if you rarely go outside, wildlife and other natural resources impact the air you breathe and the water you drink. Despite all this, the candidates for governor rarely address how they will support conservation of wildlife and the great outdoors in Tennessee. These resources aren’t here by accident. It took thousands of conservationists decades of work to restore Tennessee to the state we enjoy today. If it’s not a priority, we could lose it again. Tennessee Wildlife Federation was founded by people with diverse interests—from hunters to outdoors writers. But they came together around a single idea: wildlife and wild places should be conserved for themselves and the next generation. We must continue to move forward. That requires those running for public office to share their ideas and plans for wildlife and our great outdoors. In doing this, the candidates can elevate these issues to the level of importance they currently occupy across Tennessee. Nearly 60 percent of Tennesseans participate in outdoor recreation each year— from hunting to birding to paddling to hiking. Among voters, 66 percent hold a hunting and fishing license. Regardless of how we enjoy the great outdoors, we can agree they need to be conserved. So, contact the campaigns on social media, through email, by phone, and at their events. Use your voice even before election day. Ask the candidates how they plan to make wildlife a priority in their administration. CITY ORDERS BELMONT COMPLEX CLOSED,
Residents to be Relocated By Bill Marable If you read some of the comments posted on FaceBook recently concerning the living conditions at Belmont apartments, you’d probably wonder how anyone was ever allowed to reside there. Last Thursday morning, building inspectors from the City of Jackson along with District 2 City Councilman Johnny Dodd visited the belingered apartment building for a code inspection. As a result of that inspection, the property owned by Paul Mundt will be shut down in 30 days. City Councilman Teresa Trice, the property manager in a WBBJTV News report said she has issues with the way the inspection was carried out. Johnny Dodd “The way they went about this whole thing was wrong. It’s a right way and a wrong way to do something and they did wrong,” said Trice.
