IT’S A CRIME TO BE UNHEALTHY!
By Susan Holloway, Cont’d
from page 2
Abundance and then just habit can cause us to be wasteful and we do not even realize it. The less resources wasted the more money, the less resources wasted the more time, the less resources wasted the more prepared I can be for potential times of need, the less resources wasted the more I am proud of the resources I DO have. I plan to touch on several areas where I notice we are wasteful, these being (1) food (2) time (3) paper products and (4) fuels. I will address each of the four areas in my monthly articles January through April 2023.”
My March article is #3 PAPER PRODUCTS. According to The World Counts, “from 2010 to 2060, the global consumption of pulp and paper is expected to double. The same will the amount of paper waste. An increased paper production will also add further to the pressure on the world’s forests that are already in a critical state - and constantly getting worse.”
About ¼ of the waste today in landfills is paper products. Paper production causes deforestation uses enormous amounts of energy and water and contributes to air pollution and waste problems.
How can I minimize waste of paper products? First and foremost, I must care that the facts previously stated about paper use can be helped by me. My concern can be helped by constantly using the phrase “Save A Tree” as I do some of the following:
Print less and show on screens more.
Take paperless notes and store them online or in clouds.
Have recycling bins at home and at work.
Write or print on both sides of paper.
Think of ways to reuse paper – note pads from trimmings of printed information, gift wrap from newspapers, crafts from colored pieces
Send e-mails when possible.
Use cloth or reusable bags for shopping.
Buy products with less packaging.
Use cloth napkins, Swedish cloths, even small stripes of paper towels rather than rolls of paper towels.
The military teaches ways to conserve toilet paper – Look up “Military Wipe” for a lesson in conservation of this necessity.
Paper receipts are often a choice. This is a way to say no and “Save A Tree”.
Carry out food, especially at fast food places, uses too much paper!! Consciously reduce such waste.
Waste Not, Want Not during 2023. We do not become conservative with just one attempt but make limited use of paper products a habit to save environment and money!

Moon for Our Daughters
By Annie Finch
Moon that is linking our daughters’ Choices, and still more beginnings, Threaded alive with our shadows,
These are our bodies’ own voices, Powers of each of our bodies, Threading, unbroken, begetting
Flowers from each of our bodies. These are our spiraling borders Carrying on your beginnings,
Chaining through shadows to daughters, Moving beyond our beginnings, Moon of our daughters, and mothers.
Poet, translator, librettist, editor and critic Annie Finch was born in New Rochelle, New York, on October 31, 1956. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale, a master’s in creative writing from the University of Houston, and a doctorate from Stanford University.
