Former Madison County Booster Club Treasurer Indicted for Theft

An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has resulted in the indictment of Charity [Maddox] Baker, the former treasurer of Madison Academic High School’s (MAHS) Mustang Rebounders Club. The club was formed to support the MAHS Lady Mustangs basketball team. The investigation began after Jackson Madison County School System officials reported missing funds to the Comptroller’s Office. Investigators determined that Baker stole at least $7,582.94 from the club between April 2017 and June 2019. She was able to steal the money by withdrawing cash from the club’s bank account using bank counter checks.

HORSEBACK RIDING

West Tennessee When it OUTDOORS comes to with Ray Jones riding there Send photos to: are many numberonecoach@hotmail.com or 731-694-8614 ways one can travel. There are bicycles, cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATV’s, boats, planes and the list goes on and on. However, horseback riding is a category all by itself. The connection between the horse and rider is like none other because of the bond and trust between the two. The relationship is built over time and is very important towards the path to safety and fun. Horses want to go places and do things that riders need or want to perform. For a 1000 pound animal to be controlled by a person is more than just pure riding skills. It is a trust factor between the two that the horse knows you want lead it into a dangerous situation and the rider knowing the horse will respond to his/her commands. To be on horseback is a feeling like none other and the pleasure is relaxing as well as thrilling. The horse needs a break from the stall , the rider needs a break from the house and they both use the bond the give each other a break from the norm. Horseback riding is one of the great activities in the Outdoors of West Tennessee. PHOTO IS JORDIN EVANS-BOND RIDING HER HORSE RED.

Baker perpetrated her scheme 14 times, withdrawing cash amounts ranging from $75 to $1,669. Baker was able to conceal her misappropriation by changing the club’s bank account address from MAHS to her personal Post Office Box. She also submitted an altered money order to make it appear as if she used club funds to pay a legitimate invoice. Following the discovery of the altered money order, Baker admitted to school officials that she used club funds for her personal benefit. In May 2021, Charity [Maddox] Baker was indicted by the Madison County Grand Jury on one count of theft over $2,500. The Mustang Rebounders Club was dissolved by the Jackson Madison County School System in August 2018. “All booster club officials must ensure they take time to review and reconcile bank statements. This helps verify that all disbursements are recorded and used correctly,” said Comptroller Jason Mumpower. “We appreciate that Jackson Madison County school officials brought this case to our attention and are taking action to prevent future problems.”

#NNPA BLACKPRESS COMMENTARY:

ROGUE REPUBLICANS WEAPONIZING RACISM AREN’T INVISIBLE

By John Johnson II - THE WESTSIDE GAZETTE – Rogue Republicans are weaponizing racism in a brazen attempt to further divide the Nation and maintain a legacy of white supremacy. Their tactics aren’t new, and they’ve managed to infiltrate every level of society. In order to fully understand the dangers imposed by these rogue Republicans and to develop strategies to nullify them, one must examine the historical, social, economic and political implications. “In 2016, President Trump had never run for a political office before. He was caught spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on call women, cheating thousands of people via his fraudulent companies, and the GOP supported and voted for him.”Rogue Republicans are weaponizing racism in a brazen attempt to further divide the Nation and maintain a legacy of white supremacy. Rogue Republicans are weaponizing racism in a brazen attempt to further divide the Nation and maintain a legacy of white supremacy. Their tactics aren’t new, and they’ve managed to infiltrate every level of society. In order to fully understand the dangers imposed by these rogue Republicans and to develop strategies to nullify them, one must examine the historical, social, economic and political implications. Historically, George Washington, America’s first president and the Founding Fathers brought with them from England their beliefs in white supremacy. However, their first weaponization of racism began with their purchase of 20 Black slaves in 1619 from a band of Portuguese slave traders.

Our very own Constitution once recognized and upheld slavery in three places: Article 1, section 2 – Slaves will count as three-fifth of a person. Article 1, section 9 – The importation of slaves cannot be outlawed by any state before 1808. Article IV, section 2 – Runaway slaves must be returned to their masters.

It must further be noted that President George Washington, slave owner, is responsible for establishing the Supreme Court in 1789. This supposedly noble body consisted of six Justices, four of whom were slave owners. The very evilness of the early weaponization of racism was unveiled by their decision in the case of Dred Scott v. Sandford (1857). Dred Scott was a runaway slave who sued for his freedom. This less than noble body ruled, in essence against Dred Scott stating that, “since no slave is a citizen and so far, inferior, that they had no right and privileges which the white man was bound to respect.” Up until the Supreme Court’s decision in 2013, to gut the Voters Right’s Act, Section 5, I agree with the historians who stated that, “Scott’s decision had been considered the most infamous, incorrect and nefarious ruling in the history of the Supreme Court. Now that we are operating with a common set of precepts, let’s review some of the weaponizing racist’s tactics the ousted 45th president used to ignite social unrest and launch his rise to power. Remember, he started with his salacious denigration of the following: Obama’s birthplace, immigrants media/press, Black activism, etc. The 45th president’s most egregious racist’s actions and lies may have been responsible for some of our Nation’s staggering deaths and mayhem. His racists rhetoric caused an insurrection at the Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, and over 3,800, separate attacks against Asians. His continued labeling of COVID-19, as the China or Kung Fu virus may have sparked the most recent attack resulting with 8 people being killed, of which 6 were Asians. Amazingly, rogue Republicans, have launched their own weaponizing racists political strategies. They’ve already passed well over 200 voter suppression bills at the state level. Senator McConnell and every Republican in the Senate voted against the $1.9, trillion stimulus bills. This is as though they’re assuming their constituents would rather suffer and lose everything if it prevented wasteful spending and kept the deficit from increasing. Their followers can’t be this insane. Are they? Sadly, racism is as mind altering and deadly as COVID-19. Have the actions of rogue Republicans, such as Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, been so successful at weaponizing racism such that it’s only democrats who are contracting COVID-19, dying and losing all hope? The answer is simply, no! But why are they merely functioning as obstructionists? Rogue Republicans are desperate, dangerous, unpatriotic, and thus, constitute a consequential threat to our democracy. History has shown that past great empires as Rome and Persia fell because of collapsed social structures, weak rulers, and dysfunctional governments. Voters having elected President Biden and V.P. Harris, are assured America is on the right path to avoiding mistakes of past empires. Any barriers erected to hinder voters will be laid bare by engaged citizens/voters, chambers of commerce, and powerful corporate stakeholders. No sane CEOs would contemplate running their corporation anywhere other than in a capitalistic democracy. The social, economic, legal, and political battles that must be waged against rogue Republicans and their democratic sympathizers will be difficult but can and must be won. President Biden is battle tough and combat ready. At the same time Americans can find strength and comfort provided by the words of the Prophet Isaiah, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper.” The post Rogue Republicans Weaponizing Racism Aren’t Invisible appeared first on The Westside Gazette. 05-20-21 CSENEWS P.9

PUBLISHED MAY 12, 2021 jazztimes.com – BY MAC RANDALL The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2021 inducteestoday, and among them is the pioneering singer/songwriter and poet Gil Scott-Heron (1949-2011), who made socially and politically potent music in the 1970s that fused jazz with R&B and who— although he preferred to refer to himself as a “bluesologist”—is widely regarded as one of the earliest rappers. Recognizing Scott-Heron’s seminal role in the development of hip-hop, the Rock Hall honored him with an Early Influencer Award. (In an indication of the unusually wide stylistic range of this year’s class of inductees, the other two 2021 winners of that award are the German electronic collective Kraftwerk and the Mississippi Delta bluesman Charley Patton.) Scott-Heron is one of only a small number of Rock Hall inductees (so far) to have strong jazz connections. Over the 35 years of its existence, the Hall has also inducted Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, Charlie Christian, Nat “King” Cole, Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Dr. John, Quincy Jones, Nina Simone, and Dinah Washington. Only Charles, Davis, Dr. John, and Simone were inducted as performers; the others received either the same Early Influencer honor as Scott-Heron or (in Jones’ case) the Ahmet Ertegun Award for music-industry professionals. In collaboration with keyboardist/songwriter Brian Jackson, Scott-Heron wrote and recorded 10 albums between 1971 and 1980 that featured a string of hugely influential songs, including “Pieces of a Man,” “Lady Day and John Coltrane,” “Home Is Where the Hatred Is,” “The Bottle,” “Johannesburg,” “Angel Dust,” “We Almost Lost Detroit,” and—the track he remains best known for—”The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.”

Although she feeds me bread of bitterness, And sinks into my throat her tiger’s tooth, Stealing my breath of life, I will confess I love this cultured hell that tests my youth. Her vigor flows like tides into my blood, Giving me strength erect against her hate, Her bigness sweeps my being like a flood. Yet, as a rebel fronts a king in state, I stand within her walls with not a shred Of terror, malice, not a word of jeer. Darkly I gaze into the days ahead, And see her might and granite wonders there, Beneath the touch of Time’s unerring hand, Like priceless treasures sinking in the sand. His work ranged from vernacular verse celebrating peasant life in Jamaica to poems that protested racial and economic inequities.

Former Greene County Sheriff’s Department Employee Pleads Guilty to Theft

An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has resulted in the guilty plea of Stewart Cowles, a former IT system administrator for the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. Investigators determined that Cowles misappropriated $49,826.20 from the county by engaging in a number of improper practices. These issues are presented below: Cowles used a sheriff’s department credit card to make apparent personal purchases on Amazon totaling at least $29,554.14. Some examples of these purchases include a hot tub, an espresso machine, gaming items, and a Bose Speaker System. Cowles altered the invoices that he provided to the county to disguise the purchases as technology equipment for the department. Cowles submitted timesheets to the sheriff’s department and the Greeneville Police Department – where he also worked as an IT administrator – for the same work hours. Cowles was paid at least $19,490.46 by the county for 1,592.25 hours in which he claimed to work at both jobs simultaneously. Cowles activated a county paid cell phone line for one of his family members. The county paid $726.03 for approximately 14 months use on this line. Cowles continued to use a county paid cell phone number after his employment ended on September 1, 2018. The cost of the usage was approximately $55.57. In May 2021, David Cowles pled guilty to one count of theft over $10,000. “It is important for government entities to not only review invoices, but also document that all goods have been received,” said Comptroller Jason Mumpower. “This necessary step helps diminish the risk that a government will pay for something that never arrived in its offices.”

UPSET OVER FOOD, WOMAN DESTROYS PICTURE FRAMES, PLANTS, & THREATENS PARENTS; – SHE SAYS IT WASN’T HER

05/12/2021 Jason Steen - scoopnashville.com Police say 35-year-old Aisha Williams became upset over food, coming into her parent’s home screaming & yelling, destroying a picture frame, grabbing a pair of scissors and threatening her mother, and destroying a potted plant. Aisha says it wasn’t her, and police arrested the wrong person, claiming the warrant was “for my neighbor with the same last name”, and says she was arrested because she doesn’t “get the white privilege”. Her parents say it was, without a doubt, their daughter, and she is currently off her medications. Metro Nashville Police responded to Cumberland Hills Drive on April 30th, after the parents of Aisha Williams, 35, called 911 due to a domestic disturbance at the residence that involved a weapon. The father says he took one of his grandchildren out to eat in Madison and returned to his home just after 7 p.m., and Aisha pulled into the driveway moments behind him, with her other children in her vehicle.

Aisha Williams is scheduled to appear in court on October 12th.
