Nearly half of Black women experience sexual coercion in their lives, and 1/4 will experience sexual abuse by the age of 18. The overturn of Roe v. Wade will largely affect women and girls across the country.

Either way crappie fishing is the ultimate for many West Tennessee outdoorsmen who can’t wait to try their best crappie bait on their favorite lakes.

Poore, Union associate professor of philosophy, apol ogetics and ethics, kicked off the conference by teaching students how to approach defending their faith in love and grace.

With key speakers trained in theology, philosophy, apologet ics and youth ministry, the Equip Youth Apologetics Conference helped train youth how to defend and affirm essential Christian truths.Gregory

“A lot of times, we have this impression that if we think too much, we will lose our faith,” Poore said. “Christ is the maker of heavens, the earth and our minds, so we don’t need to be afraid that there’s going to be some deep incompatibility between seeking truth and faith.”

It allows city residents whose property adjoins city-owned property to care for the property for a year and subsequently claim it as their own. I am including a list of the vacant properties in district four. If anyone is interested in the application process, please reach out to the City Planning Department at 731-4258282

CSENEWS P.9

We are having another meeting September 19 @ 6:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church. I look forward to seeing you all there. 2022-2023 Budget Updates: Earlier this year, I was happy to cast my vote for the budget ordinance that includes the following items.

READY 311: Ready 3-1-1 is an app for your mobile device available in the app store. You can use this app to report junk, debris, potholes, and other city services. I recommend you download the app. If you want to report your issues by phone, dial 3-1-1 from your cell phone or landline.

o $1,700,000 in pedestrian improvements for sidewalks.

DearTheConstituents, purposeofthis letter is to provide you with an update on projects and developments in and around our district. I am Councilwoman Tara Skinner. I was appointed to the City Council January 7, 2022 to replace our late Councilman Harvey Buchanan. Harvey Buchanan was a dear friend and mentor of mine, and he was an excellent advocate for district four. I am honored to represent you on the City Council. If you should ever need anything from me, my cell phone num ber is (731) 343-2867. Please do not hesitate to reach out. Projects and developments and their status in District Four are as follows:

That means that they must be fed enough to stay in good physical condition, have clean water available AT ALL TIMES, and their shelter must protect them from the current climate. They must have constant shade in the summer months, and must be provided with a doghouse that suffi ciently protects them from the cold in the winter months. Stray dogs and cats can be picked up by animal control. Large dogs running loose or potentially aggressive animals will be prioritized over stray cats. If you have any questions, or see an issue, please report it to Animal Control at (731) 422 7028 LOVE YOUR BLOCK: The Love Your Block program began in January 2022. It provides support and resources for blight reduction projects in the community such as small exterior home repairs and vacant lot revitalization. Projects began in June, and so far, we have completed five home re pairs, and one lot revitalization project. The Middleton project was completed at the end of July. The site will be the future home of “Sarah’s house”. Sarah’s House is the future home of a community center for the Lane Avenue and East Jackson Community. The project will be completing 3 more home repairs in September. The program is not currently accepting applications for this grant cycle. The project is still seeking volunteers to help us with upcoming projects, and they would love to have the community’s help. Applications will open back up early spring 2023 for the next grant cycle. If you have any questions, please contact the Love Your Block program at (731) 425-8329, or visit the website at jacksontn.gov/resi dents/loveyourblock.

FOUR MINUTE CITY: The City of Jackson, the Jackson Fire Department, West Tennessee Healthcare and Friends of Heart are partnering with Avive Solutions to significantly increase survival rates from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in Jackson through a program called 4-minute City. SCA is a leading cause of death in the U.S., and we are doing some thing to change that in our community! Together, we plan to bring cutting-edge technology and forward-thinking ideas to Jackson by placing Avive’s intelligent AEDs across the city and deploying their first-of-its-kind cardiac arrest response technology. Most importantly, they plan to work with the citizens of Jackson to create a culture of saving lives from cardiac arrest through free public training for CPR/AED and placement of connected AED’s in our community. For more information, contact Friends of Heart at (731) 343-3330

FREEDGES: The City of Jackson will be installing two community “freedges” at First Methodist Downtown, and JA COA. The community fridges will be available for use or do nations by anyone in the community. This is a pilot program that we hope to expand in the future. A list of eligible items will be posted and made available before the installation. If you have any questions, please contact Abby Palmer at (731) 217-7823 or by email at apalmer@jacksontn.gov.

NOISE ORDINANCE VIOLATIONS: A few residents have reached out asking about noise violations. It is against city ordinance to play loud music, or make loud noises in between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., in such a manner as to be plainly audible at a distance of fifty feet from the building, structure, or vehicle in which it is located. If you have an in stance of this happening, please contact the police department at (731) 425-8400, or 9-1-1 if there is an emergency.

I hope you find this information helpful. I have really enjoyed getting to know the hard working public servants that provide our city services, and I am thankful for them. It is an honor and a privilege to represent you on the City Council. Thope to see you at the Community Meeting September 19 @ 6:00 at Macedonia Baptist Church.

ANIMAL QUESTIONS: Some of you have reached out asking questions about animal conditions. All animals must be provided with proper food, water, and appropriate shelter.

driveways. If a vehicle remains in the same spot for five days, you may contact the police department at (731) 425-8400

While support for Pieper Lewis had been elusive over the years — she was raised in foster care and shipped from home to home — her high school math teacher Leland Schipper stepped in to offer what no one had ever done. Schipper started a GoFundMe crowdsourcing page for Pieper to help offset the cost of the $150,000 judgment and to help her restart her life.

The proactive investigation into drug trafficking in McKenzie led agents and investigators to a home in the 600 block of Walnut Avenue. A search warrant was secured for the address and was executed earlier today by TBI, McK enzie Police Department, Huntingdon Police Department, and the 24th Judicial District Drug Task Force. A search of the home resulted in the discovery of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

“Today, my former student, Pieper Lewis, bravely took the microphone during her sentencing hearing and told the courtroom that her voice mattered,” Schipper wrote on the fundraising site. “I was incredibly proud of her. She was powerful, and she brought me to Schippertears.”said Pieper, who had already spent nearly three years in juvenile detention awaiting trial, did not deserve to spend time in an adult prison.

EEOG has helped more than 30,000 students increase their financial literacy, leadership development, and self-efficacy knowledge base. The EEOG is proud to welcome our sponsors: Lane College, West Tennessee Healthcare, City of Brownsville, Pinnacle Financial Partners, GEODIS, 100 Black Men of Jackson, WellsFargo, CoreCivic, Bank of Ripley, Bank of Tipton, MIG Steel Fabrication, LLC, Cracker Barrel, Fifth Third Bank, Pilot Company, and Tom Black, Author, The Boxcar Millionaire Companies that invested this valuable effort with time and financial resources, to afford 250 college-bound 9 through 12-grade students to participate in EEOGs’ CSNP.

EEOG feels that higher education can improve students who identify as first-generation and low-to-moderate income from historically underrepre sented student populations toward pathways to success. We aim to expose students to entrepreneurship, leaders, colleges, and career-ready readiness opportunities to become college graduates.

The CSNP experience aims to energize an entrepreneurial movement and the public and private sector’s avenues for career growth for emerging student leaders. JACKSON, TENNESSEE August 9, 2022 /EEOGorg/ -- The EDUCATION EQUAL OPPORTUNITY GROUP, INC., presents the Career Speed Networking Program (CSNP), on Thursday, September 22, 2022, from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm at the Lane College. This year’s theme is “Talent is everywhere, Opportunity is not!” EEOG’s aim is to directly and immediately support emerging student leaders in Jackson, Tennessee and the Rural West Tennessee Counties surrounding the Blue Oval City region.

DELIVERING THE JACKSON ART BOXES!

Plus, attendees will hear from the Tennessee Department of Human Services Commissioner, Clarence H. Carter, (left) our keynote speaker and part of Governors Bill Lee’s administration. Prior CSNP participants have mused about how the experience piqued their curiosity and fueled their conviction to rise above the stigma of being labeled at-risk students. Business leaders encour aged the students to dare to dream by exposing them to career possibilities like the participating executives they met for the first time during speed networking. The EEOG survey revealed that 91% of students visited their first college campus, 94% were introduced to ways to improve their soft skills, and 80% reported having more clarity about their preferred career/major after participat ing in CSNP.

We need poetry now, more thanMyever.exploration of Ala bama-born Helen Keller has taught me the power of devel oping an intimate relationship with a figure from history. I read biographies and other accounts of her life, but her own writing -- her journal of the six months immediately following Anne Sullivan Macy’s death and the letters she sent back to the USA after visiting the devastation in Japan following the atomic bombs -- led me to know her heart and to imagine the woman she was. I hope these poems give a sketch of who Helen Keller became, and open a window into the heart she gave to the world. Love, compassion for others, and the search for justice motivated her above all else.

Jeanie was the guest speaker at the launch of Open the Door 19 , the anthology of Writing Our Stories work by stu dents at the Mt. Meigs campus of the Alabama Department of Youth Services. Poetic Expressions

The Myth of Water is a cycle of thirty-four poems by award-winning Alabama poet and writer Jeanie Thompson in the voice of world-renowned Alabamian Helen Keller. In their sweep, the poems trace Keller’s metamorphosis from a native of a bucolic Alabama town to her emergence as a beloved, international figure who championed the rights of the deaf-blind worldwide.

Thompson’s artfully concatenated vignettes form a mosaic that maps the insightful mind behind the elegant and enigmatic persona Keller projected. Thompson takes readers on the journey of Keller’s life, from some of the thirty-seven countries she visited, including the British Isles, Europe, and Japan to the wellsprings of her emotional awakening and insight. The poems are paired with fascinating biographical anecdotes from Keller’s life and samplings from her writing, which infuse the work with richly-rewarding biographical detail.
