2018 | 2nd PRIZE Architecture Competition Entry | TECHNICA | EXTENSION OF THE BLANES HOSPITAL SURGERY BLOCK
TECHNICA | Extension of the Blanes Hospital Surgery Block The proposal incorporates in the existing volume of the hospital within the logic of recognizing and enhancing the values of the original work with a contemporary form and expresion, that makes the extension distinguish from the existing buiding. The use of the chosen constructive systems intend to respond to present needs without losing the order, austerity and architectural virtues of the original building.

The proposed construction systems allow for a great functional flexibility and simple functional enlargement, a great lightness, a low environmental impact through the logic of circular economy and the improvement in efficiency with the reduction of consumption and ease of maintenance. It also allow maintaining and strengthening the integration with the current building and with the landscape through reflections and transparencies that provide depth and vibration to the new volume. With regard to the functional proposal, we have optimized the distribution of uses and circulations to guarantee proper current
and future functioning. If we take into account the whole life cycle of the buildings, it becomes important to incorporate flexibility whenever possible, especially in the health sector: they are usually buildings with an important dynamic of functional changes. The incorporation of parameters of functional flexibility entails the improvement of the environmental parameters in the long term. The incorporation of features of functional flexibility to the proposal goes through two combined strategies: the reduction of the number of internal pillars of the structural mesh of the
new plant, and the addition of a new level on which will provide the flexibility the hospital will need in case of a future extention. We propose to cover the new horizontal volume with the perforated mesh, translucent, dark and bright to ensure its integration in the composition of dark strips of the existing hospital building. Behind this veneer, the interior is isolated with sandwich panel strips of greenish tones. These colors appear discreet, and make the perception of the volume evolve according to the light at every moment of the day.
EXTENSION OF THE BLANES HOSPITAL SURGERY BLOCK | TECHNICA | 2nd PRIZE Architecture Competition Entry | 2018
01 We propose a sustainable intervention that minimizes the material and energy impact, which enhances flexibility and functional adaptation and that by its nature allows users to identify, orientate and perceive it integrated into the whole, with qualities that enrich its perception over time.

SUN LIGHT The new building will be mostly exposed directly to the sun on the south-eastern faรงade and on the cover. However, the new surgical plant will be protected by the faรงade that acts as a sunscreen and is built in a contemporary interpretation of the Catalan vault.
INTEGRATION IN THE ENVIRONMENT More than half of the new volume will be involved by the pines forest nearby. In this sense, the skin of the new building will be inspired from the colors of its surroundings.
ENJOY THE LANDSCAPE Linked with the family waiting room, we propose a terrace that does not interfere with the continuity of the external skin of the building, instead it reinforces the idea of the skin thus creating an exterior but intimate space.

2016 | 2nd PRIZE Architecture Competition Entry | L’ARCA | CENTER FOR SOCIAL SERVICES
L’ARCA | Center for Social Services The most significant aspects of study were the architectural design capable of solving the functional program while answering to the criteria of efficiency and flexibility, the industrialized constructive solutions, according to the sustainability criteria, the optimized structure and last but not least the passive sustainability strategies (efficiency of the enclosure, use of natural light) as well as the active sustainability strategies (design of efficient installations).
The new CSS has been designed to integrate itself as a key piece of the set of facilities planned for the site, especially considering that the consolidation of the two built bars and their free space in between is not expected to be developed in a immediate future For this reason a building has been designed that can work as a motor for the future development of the joint action of facilities and housing.

Our proposal exhaust the available volume, respecting the regulations proposed by the gauge, but incorporating voids serve to modulate environmental parameters and generate more complex and interesting interiors with meaning that a public facility like this requires. The section of the
building expresses this desire to achieve an internal porosity that can establish a dialogue between all spaces and the outside, from the very interior of the building. The building is composed of a compact rectangular volume, while in the interior a cut is generated, that moves to each level, forming an interior patio that connects the interior with the exterior and, at the same time, that It acts as a bioclimatic engine of the whole, contributing to provide natural lighting to all indoor spaces. The building has been designed to achieve the functionality required in the technical bases while optimizing the surfaces of the same. The distribution of the suggested program has been
respected in the specifications of the intervention criteria and, in general, the useful surfaces: on the basement floor -1, the room of events and the foyer are located, with its annexed spaces; on the ground floor the offices by the entities with the warehouse; on the 1st floor the workshops and the meeting rooms; And on the 2nd floor the CSS. The covered plant, protected partly by a solar pergola, constitutes a “new height 0”, as it poses a green cover with direct access from the core of vertical communication, for the use of users. You can also think that this space is transformed into an open classroom to hold workshops, meetings, events.

02 It will be a dynamic and changing building. A clearly identifiable volume, with a unifying element - its envelope, with its chromatic component, has the will to be a signal in an unconsolidated near context.

2016 | 3nd PRIZE Architecture Competition Entry | DOS EN UN | APARTMENTS IN BARCELONA
DOS EN UN | Apartments in Barcelona The two buildings of the project configure the interior space of the island and at the same time complete the facade towards the street. Thus, the island, which basically follows the Cerdà planning, opens up transversal perforations between the two perimetral streets in order to connect them with the center of the island, which is conceived as a public green space.

The project aims to enhance this permeability through a porch under the building on Maresme Street, which helps to link the central garden with the people in the most populated residential area of the neighborhood . On the other hand, the project aims to make the most of the conditions of sunshine and ventilation, while also fitting the volumetric guidelines imposed by the current urban planning plan. We propose volumes that through their orientation
and porosity achieve natural light in all rooms of the program housing and solar radiation in the living rooms during the winter. Likewise, all apartment types allow to establish cross ventilations through their interior. All apartments have been designed to have an intimate private exterior space, which acts as an intermediate space between interior and exterior as regards their thermal, lighting and privacy conditions. We propose an efficient
construction for the two buildings with industrialized base systems assembled in site. This fact must make it possible to significant reduce the duration and discomfort of the works, as well as improving their performance. The architectural aesthetics of the building looks to accommodate the texture and the personality of the neighborhood that surrounds it.

03 The new building will contribute to create a dialogue with the traditional and domestic character of the existing neighborhood, but without disregarding the aspirations and language of the contemporary architecture.

2018 | 2nd PRIZE Architecture Competition Entry | THE PARK | KINDERGARTEN IN THE CENTRAL PARK OF NOU BARRIS
The Park | Kindergarten in the Central Park of Nou Barris The term commonly used for landscape integration indicates ÂŤMaking someone or something become part of a wholeÂť. The subordination of one part to the whole entails understanding integration in the sense of adaptation. Landscape integration, constitutes an intervention strategy in the territory which aims at channelling the transformations of the landscape by adapting them to the landscape used as a reference.
The objective of the project is to integrate a new kindergarten in the central park of Nou Barris in Barcelona and the rehabilitation of an old villa, which even if it does not have historical value, has survived the multiple changes and modernisation of the neighbourhood and the park along the years.
2016 | Competition Entry 2nd PRIZE Barcelon, Spain With PICH Architects For Barcelona City Council Area of Ecology, Urban Planning and Mobility

The project aims at integrating the new kindergarten into the landscape of the Central Park on Nou Barris, as well as keeping the integrity and the memory of the existing villa on the site. Our proposal is oriented
towards extending the park into the roof of the new construction in such a way that the kindergarten will seamlessly blend into the landscape, and will hug the old villa creating a conection with it on the underground level. The new building closes itself from the park, creating in this way a privare courtyard, closed and safe for the children to use. In regards to the villa, we decided to keep the facades and the inner structure and mold the new program in such a way that it would be compatible with these. For this reason,
minimum interventions were made in the facades, in order to keep the identity of the building as a landmark of the neighbourhood. Natural light is an important demand in order to acomodate the new function. In this regard, for maximizing the intake of natural light without modifying the existing openings, we opted for modifyiong the geometry of the roof, by intorducinf a skylight. This design option was studied to have the minimum visual impact for pedestrians while giving the interior space the necesary natural light.
THE PARK | KINDERGARTEN IN THE CENTRAL PARK OF NOU BARRIS | 2nd PRIZE Architecture Competition Entry | 2018
04 The problem of integrating buildings into the landscape has undergone an increasing interest in the Spanish society, as it already happened in more advanced societies. Its demand emerges as a result of social unrest caused by the spread of the housing development and also due to the locations and typological modalities used.

COURTYARD OF LIGHT Having to work with an existing compact building, with few and small openings, the strategy to passively improve the interior comfort was to create an interior courtyard and a south-facing skylight with retractable solar protections and practicable openings. DIAPHANOUS WORK SPACE The workspace was conceived as a unique space, lit by the inner courtyard. COMPARTMENTATION ON THE GROUND FLOOR It will work with systems of dry partitions with finishes of wooden shavings. It will give a high rise of this floor, glass cards will be placed on the upper third of the dividers to allow a better distribution of light and a perception of greater spatial amplitude.
