ALTIS PRIME HOTEL | Lisbon BEST HOTEL INTERIOR PORTUGAL | BEST HOTEL INTERIOR EUROPE INTERNATIONAL HOTEL AWARDS 2011 IN ASSOCIATION WITH BLOOMBERG TELEVISION
Located in the heart of Lisbon, next to the emblematic Avenida da Liberdade, Altis Prime Luxury Hotel Apartments offers a new concept of "Home Business Hotel", with Interior Architecture and Decoration project by atelier Cristina Jorge de Carvalho Interior Design. The space offers Luxury Apartments especially conceived for those seeking an elegant and cozy apartment suited for a long stay in the heart of the Portuguese capital. The Architecture and Interior Decoration project has been awarded Best Interior Hotel for Europe and Best Interior Hotel Portugal by the European Hotel Design Awards. Distributed through eight floors and with typologies varying between studios and three bedroom spaces (from 560 to 2100 sq. ft.), all 78 Prime Altis apartments offer interiors that have been projected with the concern of creating a contemporary, elegant and sober environment, marked by comfort, luxury and extreme functionality. Regarding the space decoration, the Designer opted for a pure, contemporary and timeless style. The pieces, mostly designed by Cristina Jorge de Carvalho, are mixed with classic options from international names such as Hans Wegner or Vitra, among others. Sober and neutral colors define a color palette of beige and grey variations that take us to a somehow masculine environment, contrasting with the delicate nature of the costume-made pieces. The materials used also reflect the dichotomy raw vs. delicate. The result is an elegant, sober and timeless balance, transversal to all central spaces – Lobby, Lounge, meeting room, and the terrace / solarium that offers unique panoramic views of Lisbon.
STIVALI | Lisbon RETAIL
The genesis of this project is the creation of a space that does not break away for the existing identity of the store. Starting from Stivali´s original concept and image, Cristina Jorge de Carvalho has reinterpreted the identity of the brand through a modern language in which its timeless signature design is brought to life through a sophisticated comfort. The careful selection of the modern and fresh nude tone reinforces the store´s eclectic elegance and reflects an environment in which the sublime brightness finds its perfect canvas. With an admittedly contemporary aesthetic defined by simple and purified lines, and through the selection of noble materials such as stone, stainless steel and mirror surfaces, the space acquires a truly welcoming and intimate dimension. The existence of different corners from brands with unique identities has influenced the selection of a neutral palette that allows for an elegant and complete integration of the space. Being an amplification – and since the new areas of the store are located on the first floor – the stairs represent the focus point of the project as they assume the transition area between both spaces. The first steps become then, the two most evidenced elements that will invite and announce the access to the upper and new floor. The invitational side of this element is reinforced by the introduction of the mirror through and the use of carefully selected lighting. The final result is a set of elements that create the scenic and visual impact aimed for this transitional space.
CHAMPALIMAUD FOUNDATION| Lisbon SILVER WINNER | CONCEPTUAL INTERIOR DESIGN INTERNATIONAL DESIGN AWARDS
CJC was invited to submit a proposal of Interior Design for the new Research Centre of the Champalimaud Foundation due to inaugurate this current year. With both a research and treatment component, it is a place where you want the patient to have a ‘close’ link searching for its own cure – the humanization of the space is implied. Based on the immensity of space, the main objective was the creation of spaces / areas inside this same space in order to decrease it to the human scale and provide comfort. In defining the different areas we met the different requirements of potential users, creating multiple options of leisure, more or less intimate, more or less comfortable and / or formal. The spatial connection between interior / exterior is a physical characteristic of the building itself, so a starting point for the developing the concept. The evocation of nature is thus a basic and recurrent element, either through the use of natural materials like wood, straw and linens, either through light projections on the walls that dialogue with outside gardens showing its variations of movement and foliage. The colours are sober and clear, quiet and peacefully seeking the evocation of feelings and emotions of energy, positivity and peace. These emotions are also expressed through graphic projections that receive visitors at the entrance. The design pieces by CJC are combined with the design classics in a contemporary language that is intended to be calm and comfortable. .
FOUR SEASONS RITZ HOTEL | Lisbon CONCEPTUAL PROJECT
Cristina Jorge de Carvalho Architecture & Interior Design submitted a proposal for the renovation of the long considered Lisbon’s premier Four Seasons Ritz Hotel. Located right in the heart of the city, the hotel reflects the nobility and charm of historic Portugal. The main task was to renew and update the decoration of their suites without losing the essence and image of this prestigious brand. CJC approached the project in a black and white vision, with richesness of textures, neutral palettes and contrasts of patterns, such as the organic wall paper in the main room. The preservation of roofs, cornices and some furniture links the renovation to its classic line characteristic of the hotel.

CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL | Albufeira
A 5-star hotel on the Algarve coast, next to the Albufeira’s marina, with the interior architecture and decoration project signed by atelier Cristina Jorge de Carvalho Interior Design. The exterior has the typical Algarve architectural lines, with traditional elements of Portuguese architecture integrated in the interiors in a contemporary way. The lines are straight and clean, the textures and materials are natural. The Hotel comprises 111 rooms with 6 different sizes and layouts, a restaurant, bar, a lounge area, pool and various meeting rooms.
TIARA HOTEL CONCEPTUAL PROJECT
The conceptual and architectural approach Cristina Jorge de Carvalho Interior Design proposed for this 5 star Hotel had as its main goal the design of a unique space, to provide guests a timeless and luxurious atmosphere. Trough the standardization of the pavement, and by opening new spaces, the space gained light, scale and magnificence. At the entrance, a luxurious green garden, full of light, surrounds the guests, giving an organic and natural atmosphere to the surroundings.
Having as conceptual inspirations the sea and the great Portuguese navigators, the design starts from a central circle of white marble, from where concentric lines depart, referring to the cardinal points of the traditional compass card. All the remaining space develops and is directed from here, emphasizing a sense of scale. A waterfall of white glass mosaic provides movement and sound, appealing to the sensorial memory of the sea. The utilization of noble materials adds sumptuousness in a discreet manner while, in stark contrast to the coolness of the marble, the cosmopolitan brass provides a touch of warmth. With this combination of opposites, the space becomes eclectic and unique, communicating the sophistication and luxurious experience the Hotel wanted to convey.
PERALTA HOTEL CONCEPTUAL PROJECT
Intervention: Architectural design and interiors project of Cristina Jorge de Carvalho. CJC developed on this project an atmosphere of an up-to-date hotel, highlighting the simplicity, a timeless design and an extremely comfortable space. The colour palette was focused on all the neutral tones to communicate a relaxed state of mind. A getaway far from the stressing city and daily routine. Top to floor windows, translucent materials in contrast with hard stylish marble walls, and structures. The choice of materials and coverings, always in neutral edgy options play along with the bespoke Furniture designed for the space, as well the selection of furniture of other brands. The Fabric selection and other decorative items were also part of CJC inspiration keeping in high scale the simplicity creating sometimes an illusion where objects, forms and textures are almost fused. Merging and converging in one view.
PORTINHO HOTEL CONCEPTUAL PROJECT
A contemporary and elegant hotel, surrounded by sea and green everywhere. This was the starting point for the conceptual project developed by Cristina Jorge de Carvalho Interior Design for this 5 star Hotel located in Madeira. Madeira is a luxuriant island filled with stunning flowers and centennial trees, framed by a sea of an unique color of greenish blue. Acknowledging all this extraordinary beauty, the concept for this Hotel has green elements throughout – gardens surrounding the exterior, suspended gardens on the interior walls, a water cascade on a green wall in the lobby. The volcanic rock, a very characteristic natural element of the island, is sliced in long rectangles and used to cover the walls at all the public areas of the Hotel. The connection between the inside and the outside is reinforced, to ensured that the entire Hotel can be fully appreciated and explored. The renowned nice weather that surrounds Madeira Island all year long will ensure that all Hotel areas will be fully enjoyed by its guests, providing them a memorable and exclusive experience.
HOTEL VILALARA THALASSA RESORT | COMPETITION | 2008 CONCEPTUAL PROJECT
Briefing: modernization of the image and update to demands of current market. Concept: The formal clearance of space itself through the uniformity of coatings and colours, resulting in a neutral colour palette, where the contrasting textures of materials create and refer to elements of vernacular architecture. The use of natural materials combined with the modernity and elegance of the furniture pieces give the space an atmosphere of sophisticated comfort and tranquillity inherent to the location of the hotel and the concept itself.
NUDE FASHION STORE | Lisbon RETAIL
In a refined and minimalist language, this space opens up to the visitor through 2 central volumes in cement that define and characterize the circulation area and space. The industrial cold of the cement, as opposed to the comfort of the carpet and warm wood floors, and even the unexpected touch of the suede lining of the walls, give the space a stylish and distinctive ambience. The fitting rooms are fully coated in mirror capturing and triggering angles and unusual images.
LOJA DAS MEIAS |FASHION STORE | Lisbon RETAIL
With the image renewal premise of a cult brand as the starting point, this project has timelessness and luxury, although stripped, as its prevalent concepts. The combination of materials like brass, stone and leather as opposed to iron and stroked cement redefine luxury and convey a contemporary timeless.
The design detail of the interiors was specially planned as to give an unique emphasis to the luxury items it exhibits.
