MONASTERio REMAKE(R)

2019/20, ETSAM The monastery is understood as a potential accumulation of energy and information that has been extended and refined throughout history until it has been consolidated as a recognisable typology of our western culture. We wonder about the carrying capacity of enclaves like this one, but we also ask ourselves to what extent this new mutation represents something temporary within this historical ruin. A great tangible heritage closely linked to an intangible heritage that this project aims to rescue from our memory in order to reinvent it in a contemporary key, updating its meaning. We trust in its capacity to readapt and reconfigure itself so that, returning once again to the state of experimental prototype, this time contemporary, it can explore new forms of life, work and socialisation. In this way, the makers are the new monks as they share a double function inherent to their condition: recovering knowledge and transfering it to future generations. A way to democratize knowledge somehow, this time incorporating new layers of technology. Final Master Thesis

SILONEA

2017, ETSAM The project takes an old grain silo situated in the district of ortaleza in adrid and transformes it in order to host di erent types of programs and activities. The new structure is the result on a hybridization between the old prefabricated concrete walls and the new incorporated elements, combining tradition and new technologies simultaneously. The apnea centre, proposed by taking advantage of the vertical nature of the silo, hosts a m deep diving pool. The tank is attached to a system of metallic ribs which are joined to the exterior slabs, allowing visitors to get to the top of the pool. This way, the original concrete structure remain mostly untouched. The ground level, covered by cushions, serves as an entry where the administration and mechanical systems are located. 24

LA BIOCONSTRUCCIÓN

Final Undergrad. Thesis

2018/19, ETSAM

nlike the vernacular, today s architecture seems to be decontextualised with respect to its surroundings. The incompatibility between the human and the natural modus vivendi has implied an imbalance between human beings habitat nature. The improvement of the technical characteristics of building materials has been carried out at the expense of their biological ualities and their environmental innocuousness. Within this framework, ioconstruction emerges as an action that is more respectful of life and the environment. This work aims to contribute to the change of paradigm that it implies, a challenge towards a balanced context more integrated in the life that inhabits our ecosystem. The main objective is to make ioconstruction visible as a real viable alternative through its definition and characterisation from a more scientific technical dimension. owever, it is not only about sustainability, but also about uality, including the new variable of health. Through the study of three practical cases, an attempt is made to systematise the main bio parameters and determine to what extent the cases meet these criteria. The analysis of the cases shows that the integration of health, environment and surroundings is feasible, to a greater or lesser extent, in the architectural process. 28

Campus in the “sky” drop-down: shared activities

CHANGDONG-SANGGYE Start-up & Culture Complex

2018, Nodo17

The future complex is designed as a new pedestrian ow linked to the future pedestrian network. An elevated walkway, a treet in the ky as A mithson used to say, connects directly hangdong tation with eoul Arena and surrounded cultural activities. upported and connected to five towers accommodating housing, o ces and cultural activities, it is a high biodiversity urban space with great potential for future evolution and transformation. It is stretched vertically so as to enhance neighborhood identity, knowledge transfer and shared facilities. ather than isolating the towers inside the plot, as traditional relation between towers podium, they are aligned to surrounded streets in order to enhance block formation and urban integration: ambiguity between fragmentation and compactness. imber structures between concrete slabs allow exibility due to its technical features such as drywall construction, lightweight and prefabricated system and sustainable material. The technical system enhances industrial ecology and future transformation. 30

Multi-scalar system. Identity and community

Towers mix-used program

“The city is understood as a stratified and multi-scalar system that can be managed, synchronized and adapted by its citizens. Our approach is focus on five vectors: urban complexity, urban biodiversity, time evolution, sustainable mobility and the balance between private, shared and public spaces.”

2020 Faced with the constant and modest advance of the so-called exapansive tourism, we believe that architecture can serve as a restorative element, being of vital importance and relevance so that both realities can coexistist. h z ma is a place of cultural encounters. The typical configuration of the village and the cultural richness of the mong ethnic group lay the foundations for a re reading of their traditional architecture through the technification of their logics and their know how. The constructions are delicately placed on the rice fields, understanding the importance of these as a fundamental motor for their economy. Above all, architecture is created from moderation and respect for nature that allows the traveller to be imbued with all the essential aspects of the local culture. 32

oland arthes in his writings on the work of y wombly, defines the term gesture as the surplus of an action. An action, he writes: is transitive, it seeks only to provoke an object, a result. Whereas the gesture is the indeterminate and inexhaustible total of reasons, pulsions, indolences which surround the action with an atmosphere . The project explores the gestures of making in relation to a material, in order to produce an architecture that is solely focused on the relationship between the two, where the reality of the work lays within the material, the form and the act of making. The architecture that results from this approach simply attempts to exist as a physical reality. 34

In his text, Material Gesture, Holtrop points to the importance of the material properties and the unintended e ect of an action with a material, as a possible new approach to making. uch like obert mithson s Asphalt undown , ouble egative explores how the out owing properties of concrete work together with the earth mould, with gravity and air to level and solidify. It points out that the truth of a material is not found in its refined, ideal state, but in the impure , worn and lopsided state. ouble egative is the recognisable materiality, the symbol, of this specific and uni ue location, ra a, that have given rise to phenomena as surprising as geothermal pools in underground caves.
