Por tierra, mar y aire, la Costa del Sol puede presumir de incentivos inagotables. Y es que cuando se habla de turismo de sol y playa, los que gustan de ir más allá de las apariencias tienen a sus pies un mundo extraño y fascinante: el fondo marino.

C

omo en la superficie, en las entrañas del Mediterráneo existe un patrimonio incalculable y maravilloso. El mundo submarino ofrece tantos alicientes que se le ha venido en denominar el sexto continente. La Costa del Sol goza de gran interés geológico y riqueza biológica, tanto de flora como de fauna.

Cable, con la Virgen del Carmen de testigo; entre Fuengirola y Mijas, el pecio Menapier; en Benalmádena, Laja de Torre Bermeja.

Se puede contemplar en su ecosistema a todo tipo de peces y crustáceos, siendo los más comunes estrellas de mar, congrios, morenas, tortugas o pulpos, pero también es posible el avistamiento de cetáceos.

Conviene, con todo, adecuarse a cada inmersión según la dificultad que entraña cada recorrido. Básicamente un buceador iniciado puede llegar hasta los 20 metros de profundidad, el buceador avanzado serpentea entre los 20 y los 30 metros, además de en cuevas subacuáticas y más allá de los 30 metros los buceadores han de contar con aptitudes técnicas.

Otro de los incentivos es la exploración de pecios, barcos de todas las épocas históricas desde los fenicios hasta nuestros días (en Estepona hay un barco hundido en 2011), que naufragaron y se han posado en el lecho mediterráneo. En miles de años se ha creado una cartografía cultural tan interesante y cuajada como en tierra firme.

Principiantes o expertos, todos disfrutan en una costa practicable casi todo el año. Con puros fines recreativos, hay quienes sienten una paz indescriptible mientras se sumergen. Los buceadores más avezados buscan superarse en grutas o exigentes itinerarios. Y otra de las actividades más retadoras y gratificantes es la fotografía subacuática.

Uno de las más célebres y exuberantes zonas del buceo español se encuentra entre Nerja y Almuñécar: La Herradura, Cerro Gordo, Cantarriján, Punta de la Mona... Pero en el litoral netamente malagueño hay sitios de enorme interés. En Estepona, el Arrecife de la Perla; en San Pedro, el asequible galeón francés, el Lys, y el más complicado Placer de las Bóvedas; en Marbella, para todos los públicos, la Torre del

Son innumerables las escuelas y clubes de submarinismo a lo largo de los 160 km de litoral de la Costa del Sol, prácticamente hay una en cada municipio costero. En casi todos los casos los centros suelen exhibir la licencia de PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), la asociación internacional más importante para la certificación de la aptitud buceadora.

here is an uncalculable and marvellous heritage to be found, not only on land but also within the Mediterranean. The submarine world is so luring, that it has been known to be called the sixth continent. The Costa del Sol oozes with ecological interest and biological richness, as well as flora and fauna.

You can study and examine all sorts of fish and crustaceans in its ecosysytem. The most commonly seen being starfish, congor eels, morenas, turtles or octopus, and you may possibly catch a view of cetaceans. Another idea is to explore the shipwrecks, boats from every historical period since the Fenicias up to our times (in Estepona a boat actually sank in 2011) have been shipwrecked and settled on the Mediterranean’s bed. After millions of years a cultural cartogrophy has been created, that is interesting and crammed with facts. One of the most well known and abundant areas for spanish diving can be found between Nerja and Almuñecar: La Herradura, Cerro Gordo, Cantarriján, Punta de la Mona….However, on the Málaga coastline there are also places of great interest. In Estepona, the Arrecife de la Perla; in San Pedro the accessable French galleon named The Lys, and the more complicated Placer de las Bóvedas in Marbella.

Open to all public is the Torre del Cable, with The Virgen del Carmen as its witness; between Fuengirola and Mijas is Menapier and in Benalmadena, Laja de Torre Bermeja. It is important that you are prepared for every dive according to the level of difficulty involved in each trip. Basically a beginner diver can dive up to 20 metres down, whereas an advanced diver could get down to between 20 and 30 metres, as well as being in underwater caves and to get lower than that the diver would have to have had technical training. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, everyone can enjoy the coast nearly the whole year through. This can be a sport to purely enjoy yourself, as some describe the feeling of submersion as an indescribeable peace. The more advanced divers try to exceed and improve their dives in caves and on complicated routes. Another very satisfying and challenging activity is underwater photography. There are countless diving schools and clubs along the 160km of the Costa del Sol coast, practically one in every coastal town. Nearly always, the centres have a PADI licence on display (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) this being the most important international association of diver training certificates.

he crisis has brought the reinstatement of the Wealth Tax for years 2011 and 2012, an obligatory tax declaration for all residents and non residents in Spain.

There are many foreigners living on the Costa del Sol who call themselves non residents, but are they really non residents? and would it be in their interests to be residents?

En la Costa del Sol viven muchos extranjeros que se califican como no residentes asimismo, pero ¿son realmente no residentes? ¿Les convendría ser residentes?

The newly reintroduced Wealth Tax affects all those who have estate with a value over 700,000 euros, including the non residents who have a property in Spain, as they cannot call this their “main home” and therefore they are obliged to make their tax declaration for income tax and wealth tax.

El nuevo impuesto sobre el patrimonio grava a todos aquellos que tienen un patrimonio superior a 700.000 euros, incluyendo los no residentes por su vivienda en España, ya que estos, no pueden calificar su vivienda como “habitual”, estando por tanto obligados a realizar su declaración por el impuesto sobre la renta y patrimonio.

Sometimes it is forgotton that the law actually converts the non residents to residents just for living in Spain for more than 183 days in a year or for having a business based in Spain. You will be automatically considered a Spanish resident if you have a business or spend more than 183 days in Spain and you will therefore have to make your tax declaration for your worldwide assets just the same as a Spanish national would. In some cases, being a “fiscal resident” can actually be good-however this is not to be confused with registering yourself at the local town hall and being “empadronado”. The fiscal resident is entitled to a deduction of 300,000 euros on their Wealth Tax for having their “main home”in Spain, which could mean you would not need to pay this tax at all. Mortgage payments are also deducted on the Income and Wealth Tax declaration, as would be improvements on your main home if they are according to requirements (for example if they are energy saving or similar). One way to avoid paying these is to create a company, the constitution of an SL company is possible in just 24 hours and which of course helps the economic climate in Spain.

A veces se desconoce que la Ley les hace residentes en España por vivir aquí durante más de 183 días al año o por tener en España su centro de negocios. Si alguno cumple una de estas condiciones entonces será considerado residente en España y tendrá que hacer su declaración como cualquier español, tributando por su renta mundial. En algunos casos, ser “residente fiscal” puede ser bueno, cosa que por cierto, no tiene nada que ver con estar empadronado. El residente fiscal tiene una reducción de 300.000 euros en el impuesto sobre el patrimonio por su vivienda habitual en España, por lo que podría no tener que pagar este impuesto. El pagar hipoteca mensualmente también deduce en la declaración de la renta y patrimonio, así como las mejoras de la vivienda habitual si cumplen algunos requisitos (por ejemplo, que se destinen a la mejora energética u otros suministros). Una forma de evitar el pago de este impuesto es la creación de empresas, la constitución de una sociedad limitada actualmente es posible realizarla en tan solo 24 horas, lo que sin duda ayuda a la actividad económica del país.

An SL company is also a good escape route to reduce the Inheritance Succession Tax because if you are inheriting something you will pay this tax and it is important to know that each particular province has its own rates and Andalucia has not reduced its percentages when an individual inherits.

The best thing our non residents, and Spanish nationals should do is to visit a Tax Consultant or lawyer to check their actual current status and to help them comply with their tributary obligations.
