Upon initial investigation of the geometric shape I found that there were several possibilities for self connection.

This notion was the basis for the modifications that were made.

Square faces extruded

The surface that seemed to be the most fitting for a connection and input was the square on the top of the geometry. I started with just a simple extrusion. This started to give the component as a whole more definition.

Faces offset then extruded

I then created a connection utilizing this definition of the comonent. I extruded smaller surfaces from the exisintg extrusions. This created a male piece to allow for connection.

Recptors extruded in to accomodate connection

In need of a receptor for each of these male pieces, I then sunk the surface in on the 4 respective surfaces located on the bottom of the geometry. This created a female piece to form a tight connection bewtween shapes when in a neighborhood environment.

This was the least amount of pieces possible to give enough definition to still understadn the object. Due tot he shape and characteristics of the component waffling proved to be an innefective modeling technique.

As displayed there are 3 ribs in both the X and Y direction. When brought together and inserted into the bottom pieces they form a rough fabrication of the original component.

The finished product is very raw but definitive enough to get the idea behind the compnent across.

As you can see the rib set A is inserted into the rib set B in a perpendicular direction. This system creates structure and produces a sound piece.

Component Neighborhoods

Due to the tendencies of the component and its connections the neighborhood took on a longitudinal axis with 2 smaller perpendicular parts. The shape is very similar to that of an early church plan.

From the side the main support os the system can be seen. There is one long support that extends to the end of the center piece. The other 2 ar just extra support for the system.

Side Elevation of Neiighborhood

This strucure could easily be sheathed or covered to create some sort of space. The componenet has formed what seems to be a support system that when further developed could create an enclosed space.

As can be seen in the elevation. The structure is supported at both end by legs. These 45 degree supports give the structure a sound base.

The idea is that when one surface is opened on the top. The corresponding csurface on the bottom is then opened as well. This leads to a variety of several channels that ow through the solids.

This rule applies to both sets of surfaces when there is more than just one component getting attached. If not then only the top component will be open.
