Video Conference with Australia 2-5 had a videoconference with Knox Grammar School Students of 2-5 of our school had a video conference class on May fifteenth. The class progressed with Knox Grammar School(Hereinafter "Knox"). Knox Grammar School is a boys' school which is located in Wahroonga on Sydney's North Shore. Waiting for the connection with Knox, students of 2-5 were excited with anticipation. Some students who were supposed to present for the class were practicing with partners for a final check. The title of the class was "Show and Tell" and the subject was "Traditional culture of Korea and Australia". Before the class, students of 2-5 had prepared for the class. When having a conference about the presentation, they had suggested various ideas about Korean traditional culture such as traditional instruments, martial arts and food. The things they would show for the students of Knox had been selected among the many opinions. Each student had brought some old and unused objects such as traditional fan, yut and marbles from home. The preparation was perfect. As the connection with Knox was completed, the video conference was started. The two schools said hello to each other. Before they started the conference, the students and teacher of Knox expressed their regret about Sewol ferry disaster. One of the boys of them read the letter of sadness and consolation. After he read the letter, the students of the two schools paid one minute´s silent tribute together. Through the way they felt sorry sincerely, 2-5 could know that although the boys were far from them physically, they could feel the warm hearts and thoughts of them. As the solemn and reverent mood was allayed, the presentation was begun in earnest. First, two girls of 2-5 had a presentation about our traditional clothes, Hanbok.

Wearing Hanbok , they showed and explained about the beauty of it. The boys of Knox seemed to feel the beauty of Hanbok. In addition, the teacher of Knox even said that he really wanted to wear it. The second was introduction of Korean traditional fan and fan dance. Two girls begun the presentation shaking their hands holding colorful traditional fans. They explained the use of them. And then, they also showed how to dance with them to explain about Buchaechum, Korean traditional dance. The boys were surprised since the objects were the things that they had never seen before. The third was about Korean traditional instrument. Three students of 2-5 came out and showed them playing the Jing. Janggu and kkwaenggwari. Thanks to their nice and exciting play, all the students had a great and cheerful time. The forth was about Taekwondo. Some of the boys of Knox said that they had learned Taekwondo. The last presentation was to show how to make our traditional food, Bibimbap. The students of Knox concentrated on the various color of the ingredients of the food . It seemed that the boys would like to taste Bibimbap. The Presentation of Knox was also very interesting. They showed some Australian hunting tools. The forms of them were very unique. And they showed their traditional instrument, didgeridoo. One of them gave its sound by playing it. After the whole presentations were over, the students of two schools said goodbye to each other. Although the video conference class was over, it would be remembered as an invaluable experience and it would not be forgotten in the hearts of the students of Knox and Yonghwa. -Although there were some hard things as I wrote my article , writing an article is always an joyful work to me. I hope everyone likes my article. EDIT_ Chae-hui Hwang

Up early to go to school: Whether good or not How do you feel when you wake up early? Does it feel good or not? You will probably feel annoyed and woozy. And you might have suffered from a lot of stress which you want to get rid of. This problem is not only your agony but also the agony to teenagers all over the world. Scientifically, getting up early to go to school can lead to many problems in a variety of fields. It doesn’t mean that getting up early can cause serious problems unless you have a lack of sleep. Through getting up early, teenagers can’t sleep as much as they need. They have a tremendous amount of homework but their time is limited. What’s more, the lack of sleep can cause poor academic achievement and more stress. According to Super Memory (a site which research how to improve memory), students forget 53% more on schooldays when they needed to get up early.

<Poor recall on schooldays> Average grade 3.6 3.4 3.2 3 2.8 2.6 2.4 2.2 2 1.8

Also, getting up early makes stress in teenagers inclined. Corticosteroids are a class of chemicals that includes the steroid hormones that are produced in the adrenal cortex of vertebrates. These hormones should be declined while we are sleeping, but if we don’t sleep enough, they become active and cause excessive stress. And when this situation happens chronically, teenagers can get a disease such as schizophrenia, depression, insomnia, and etc.

By getting up early to go to school, teenagers’ eating habits can be totally ruined. Morning is time when stomach acid secretes the most. There are few students can wake up at least an hour early before their time attending school. Other students always eat their meal in a hurry or they should skip the breakfast and this routine will make their eating habits totally ruined. In addition, it is a well known fact that eating breakfast improves one’s intelligence and many people try to eat breakfast. Therefore, it is necessary for them to eat breakfast before their study. In conclusion, of course, you might think if students try to get up early, then there won’t be any problem, but it can cause other students’ health problem regarding to sleep which I mentioned before, so it brings the conclusion that extending time attending school is the only way to solve the problems. Korea depression - Sinking of the Sewol people too. (students, office worker, ect) The main symptom of PTSD is recalling the shocking experience and stimulating or evading. Those symptoms can be started 1months later or 1 years later. The patient can experience dissociative phenomenon(The combined memory, awareness, identity are severed) , panic and auditory hallucination . Not they can get offensive character and but abuse the drug. Also. they can get offensive character and get problem in perception funtion.

The sinking of the MV Sewol occurred on 16 April 2014 en route from Incheon towards Jeju. The Japanese-built South Korean ferry capsized while carrying 476 people, mostly secondary school students from Danwon High School . 293 people were dead and 11 people were disappeared. Most of koreans weighted with sorrow . Also they become fearful and afraid about taking passenger ships or have fun in water. Not only the bereaved but also all koreans wish their safe back. memorial ceremony was held consistently and 'yellow- ribbon campain was held too. Also. there were news about stress and depression that korean suffer. Regardless of ages and gender, people undergo lethargy, group- trauma and group- depression. The maximized depression cause them to decline energy of life and increase social problem. When those depression get more serious. It carry over post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) . These phenomenon is appeared among stressful modern-

If someone is suffer from those symptom , treatment must be received. The first thing we have to do is providing courage to talk together. They will need emotional support. And relaxation therapy is good to make patient realx. The education after PTSD helps them to overcome these phenomenon too. In these days drugs and emotional therapy is held together. In part of drug treatment . SSRI(selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) is considered first. It improve positive effect. and psychodynamic approach and hypnotherapy is used as emotional therapy. I wish accident such as Sewol didn't happen again and No body suffer from these depression again. It's very important to get treatment if you have these symptom too. Eun-Kyo : It was really nice experience that I wrote this article by myself. Ha-kyoung : I'm very proud of myself. it was nice that researching about the topic. Sewol Ferry's sinking VS a boating accident in Spain

-differences in handling between sewol ferry's sinking and a boating accident in Spain

-All about his life and his works

Danwon high school students left to Jeju-do for school trip with a restless heart in April, 16th. The weather situation on that day was foggy and bad, so sewol ferry left two hours late. Especially staff captain of sewol ferry went on vacation, so deputy Lee Jun-seok captain sailed the sewol ferry. Flooding occurred 8:55 a.m in April 16th. The captain and sailor crews knew that the sewol ferry was abnormal at that time. However, they judged that the situation got worse when they informed, so they paged to stay motionlessly in spite of passengers' unrest. Passengers notice that their ferry was sinking by surfing with their smart phones. Lee Jun-seok captain was rescued as first action with his back to many lifes. He also dried money in his pocket after rescued. Sailor crews' also escaped not to make a proper announcement. Danwon high school teachers sacrificed their own self to save their students. There was a fire in Spain passenger ship which passed near Spain Canary islands around 7 in the evening last April, 25th. Immediately after happening accident, sailor crews advised passengers of the fact about the fire at once by ringing the emergency alarm. Then, they started passenger evacuation and suppression of fire. Some sailor crews immediately hand out life jackets to the passengers and transferred the passengers on deck to dive to the sea in time of emergency. Also, captain directed the passengers to a stand starboard of portside equally to prevent listing the ship. Other sailor crews started extinguishing the fire. Air-sea rescue authorities of Spain took a message and rushed helicopters and other passenger ship to accident waters. Following guidance of rescue authorities, the accident passenger ship wound a ship to a point of departure. Like this, under the leadership of captain, swift handling is achieved systematically, and government which took a message rapidly handled the accident, so there was no victim. There are short-term measures and long-term measures of the sewol ferry’s accident. One of the short-term measures is a truth ascertainment of the sinking accident of the sewol ferry We should set an example to punish the sail crews, so they never escape with the passengers left again. Also, government ministry civil servant and a coast landscape in charge involved in the accident should be reprimanded. Last, we should compensate and strengthen support to survivors and families of victims including victims of the sewol ferry’s sinking accident. Although we could not compensate all pains they experienced, we should lessen their pains. One of the longterm measures is to reform government organizations to handle actively for emergency. Second, we should support maximum range and strengthen regulations by amending law about the ships. Like this, I hope that the swift handling of sewol ferry fulfills immediately. Also, we should be careful not to happen this accident again. EDIT_ Ji-Hye Lim

Big Bang at Big Mac : Mcjobs fight for 15 Fast food restaurant is no more considered as a place where young students work as a part-time job. Today's fast food employees are older, better educated, more vocal and more active than earlier generations. They react to their reality filled with little hope from poverty wages and have the will to change and to improve it. One of recent labor strikes is U.S. nationwide fast food strike. McDonald's which is the most largest restaurant industry became main target of wage raise movement. Thousands of McDonald's workers protested for their hourly wage raise from 7.73 dollars to 15 dollars and rights to establish labor union without retaliation against employees in front of McDonald's headquarter in Illinois. They shouted "No big Mac, no fries, make our wage supersize!" and said low wage aggravates social inequality. Reality of fast food restaurants is very poor. First, working condition is unbeneficial to part-time job workers. Most of part-time employees are university students and they have many complaints about conditions of the fast food restaurants. One university student said that he almost fell because of stagnant water while he was moving stuff to storage. He required his manager to improvement but it was no use. Also, the working hour seems to be regular but the manager often let workers work overtime without wage. Second, wage is too low for workers who need to make a living. Although part-time job for fast food restaurants has the high intensity of the labor and the long work hours, wage is insufficient for strenuous work. An employee said that he had been working in the fast food restaurant and his wage had not increased for 10 years. Moreover, there are less chances to get paid beyond minimum wage because there are few chances for advancement and professional occupations make up only 2.2% of fast food employment.

This issue is not limited to America. Last year, McDonald's workers from over 30 countries protested against the poor working conditions of many migrant workers at the International Day of Action. This year, Korean McDonald's workers also involved in international support for the May 15 including Busan and Sinchon. Korea is not a safe zone to fast food workers anymore. Although May 15 wage protest did not achieve its goal, it was one step forward toward rights for employees. It was a necessary struggle for fair and harmonious society. I wish more people would have interest in this kind of movement. 소감 : I think it was a good chance to read and talk about each other's articles.

As you can see in this picture, Korea boasts the high college entrance rate among the advanced country. Because of staying at school late every night for selfstudy and tight academy schedule, teenagers today are very smart. Among these teenagers, some of them study hard because they love studying, however majority of them study for their college and future job. They know that if they don’t study and are not able to go one of the famous universities, they will be unhappy and poor for doing nothing after college. As a result, they will get stressed so much and every

day life will be normal and boring. This is the reason they study hard although they don’t want to study. Look at this picture. Although we have the high college entrance rate, almost all teenagers living in Korea said they are unhappy. Let’s take Spain for example. Even though Spain doesn’t have high college entrance rate, they feel really happy. This is the point our society has to learn. Studying hard is not everything. Then what can we do to feel happy? First, we have to learn about creativity individuality. Korea is famous for cramming education. Schools force and compress students to study. In this situation, everyone will think equally. Second, the government has to make many ways to work and find job after high school graduation even though they don't go to college. And we have to change our awareness that going university is not everything. Everyone can have a dream and make their dreams come true if they only have a passion and eager about it. I think in this way, more and more teenagers will become happy and do what they really want. EDIT_ Do-Hee Yoo

2014 Brazil World cup

2014 Brazil World Cup is coming to the end! It was the second time that Brazil has hosted the competition. It was held in Brazil for a month. More exactly, from June 13rd to July 14th, 32 countries such as Spain, Germany competed to get(win) a trophy. There were 8 groups, and each group had 4 countries. This WorldCup’s official ball is the Brazuca, which means Brazilian. The song "dar um jeito(We will find a way)" written by Santana, was selected as the offician anthem of the 2014 FIFA World cup. And the game took place in Sao Paulo, and another 11 cities. As World Cup came closer and closer, many countries were filled with cheerful atmosphere. Korea was in Group H. There are Russia, Belgium, and Algeria with Korea in Group H. Belgium had the highest FIFA ranking in Group H, followed by Russia and Algeria. Korea has the lowest ranking in H. For the first time, Korea played with Russia on

June 18th. Korea tied Russia 1 to 1. All of the players fought hard to the very end. Especially, 이근호 player played an active part in the playground so he scored a goal. On June 23th, Korea played with Algeria, at 4 am in Korea time. Although it played at an early hour, Korean didn't sleep and became excited. Our team played hard right up to the finish but in a game with Algeria, we were beaten 4 to 2. And in a qualifying match, we lost to Belgium 1 to 0 on June 27th. Eventually, Korea tasted the bitterness of being eliminated in the first round at the Brazil World Cup. Belgium and Algeria made the top16 in Group H. The coach said that we lacked a lot this time and above all, After all, he resigned his position with 허정무, a vice-chairman of the Korea Football Association. Our soccer team was back Korea on June 30th. They got taffy from one internet cafe’s member so people were gathering their brows when they heard that news. Meanwhile, on June 25th, when Italy and Uruguay played a game, a player of Uruguay, Luis Suarez made headlines because of biting a Italian player. He became banned from playing games for 4 months. Also, in a game played with Colombia and Brazil. Zuniga, a player of Colombia kicked Neymar, a ace of Brazil. Of course that behavior of

Zuniga was not on purpose, Brazilian became upset and the Mafia of Brazil threatened to Zuniga that they would kill him, because Brazil was defeated to Germany with incredible score, 7:1! In cup final, Germany and Argentina will compete for the cup, and Brazil and Netherlands will play game to decide third and fourth. Next World Cup will be held in Russia, in 2018. We expect good result in next world cup. Thank all teams for their efforts. EDIT_ Ji-Won Kim & Tae-Yeon Kim

Science & Life

A discovery about planet’s rings A small celestial body found to have a ring Recently, there was a surprising discovery about planets’ rings. Research team of National Astronomical Obs. of Brazil and European Southern Obs. found out that there are rings around Asteroid Chariklo. As a result, number of planets with rings increased to five. Chariklo is a small asteroid placed between Saturn and Uranus. It orbits the sun in an oval-shaped path. Its path is not stable; it often escapes its usual path. Its diameter is 250 kilometers, which is 1/15000 of that of the earth. Its rings are 3km and 7km wide. Its size is very small which is the main curiosity about the rings. The observation of Chariklo had been conducted at Rio de Janeiro by National Astronomical obs. of Brazil and European Southern obs. In the observation, they expected the asteroid to block the starlight for only a single time. But surprisingly, there were three times of ‘occultation (celestial body blocking a light)’ observed. Something other than the star was blocking the light! This showed the existence of the rings. This result brought a big shock on field of astronomy. According to previous theory, it is impossible for such small asteroids to have rings because they are not big enough to have enough gravity. The current theory about the formation of rings of the planets is that rings are made in particles of other stars. The point of this theory is gravity. Two nearby stars have a pulling force on each other-gravity. The intensity depends on objects’

masses. The heavier a thing is, the stronger gravity it has. If gravitational pull of a star gets stronger than the mass of another, the smaller one will break into particles. According to the theory, these broken parts are what compose rings. This broke the convention that rings only existed around large gas planets. ‘Roche limit’ must be mentioned, when rings of the stars are discussed. Roche limit is a limit of distance between two stars which the smaller star breaks when the limit is exceeded. So the theory was that a star breaks into particles in order to form a ring when either a gravitational force between two stars is strong enough, or the distance exceeds the Roche limit. There are a few theories suggested about the formation of the rings. The first theory is that there had been a collision of meteorite. This theory claims that debris of other planets after the collision must have formed a ring around it. The second theory is that two asteroids had collided together. It is that two asteroids collided together and they formed another asteroid in the center, and the leftover bits formed rings around it. The last theory is about the demolition of the moon. It claims that Chariklo’s moon had demolished and become the rings. A research professor who conducted this observation said, “We have never seen rings around such small celestial bodies, and never had expected to. So this discovery was a huge surprise”. This was a remarkable discovery, breaking the convention 400 years after Galilees’ discovery of Saturn’s rings. As a counterevidence of existing notion is found, a new theory that can fully explain the phenomenon will be needed. The result of this observation was pressed on Nature online, on March 26th, 2014. EDIT_ Eun-Byeol Choi

Homo Aquaticus After the Theory of Evolution, people have wanted to find out where human beings’ ancestors come from. Commonly, it is believed that the origin of the human is Savannah. The scholar who support the theory says that because of climate change, forest disappeared and the ancestors(not monkey) had to adapt in grassland, just like Savannah. Over the process of adaption, they became walk with two legs. But there are some problems to embrace the Theory with no doubt. Why only human beings’ ancestors started to walk with two legs, have little furs and subcutaneous fat? Why not gorilla’s ancestors or chimpanzees? There is one theory may explain the origin of human more precisely. Homo aquaticus means the human who live in water : not really live under water, their heads were above the surface, their bodies were in water. Because of that, they could have some distinguish features that other anthropoids could never have. They could have little furs, keep worm themselves by fats, and have fats under the skin. They also could walk with two legs and speak. Finally, their bodies were turned into streamline shapes. Let’s look at our naked skin. It’s obvious that most of

the things we think about that have lost their body hair ; mammals without body hair, are aquatic ones, like the dugong, the walrus, the dolphin, the hippopotamus, the manatee. And a couple of wallowers-in-mud like the babirusa. And now everybody agrees that the elephant had an aquatic ancestors. The extinct ancestor of a rhinoceros seems to have spent most of its time in the water. So this is a close connection between nakedness and water. Look at the fat layer. We have got a layer of fat under our skin all over. Nothing in the least like that in any other primate. Why it should be there? If you look at other aquatic mammals, you can know. In most land mammals is deposited inside the body wall, around the kidneys and the intestines and so on, has started to migrate to the outside. and spread out in a layer inside the skin. It's the only possible explanation of why humans in a way that would be totally impossible for any other primate, inspite of the danger of grossly obese. The question of why we can speak. We can speak and the gorilla can't speak. Why? Nothing to do with his teeth or his tongue or his lungs or anything like that. It has to

do with its conscious control of its breath. You can’t even train a gorilla to say ‘Ah’ on request. The only creatures that have got conscious control of their breath are the diving animals and the diving birds. It was an absolute precondition for our being able to speak. And then again, there is the fact that we are streamlined. Trying to imagine a human diver diving into water, hardly makes a splash. Try to imagine a gorilla performing the same maneuver. And you can see that, compared with gorilla, we are halfway to being shaped like a fish. These are the big reasons why some scientists support the theory of Homo Aquaticus. There is no reason that you should believe this theory; or believe Savannah theory. But through all the process you understand the reasons why they for the theory and why not for the theory, you can have wide vision and thinking watching the world. EDIT_ Tae-Eun Kim

Why blue roses cannot be created?

We were in impossible to make the blue roses. So its mean is an "impossible love." Rose is called the queen of flowers, begun to be planted from 2000 years ago. There are around 15,000 species today, via a large number of crossing early. As a result, the only white and red roses can be changed into a variety of colors including yellow, orange, pink. Despite of many tries, that we didn't get is just blue roses.

6 YONGHWA INSIDE

The color of the flowers is determined by the pigment in the cells such as cyanidin (red color), Pelargonidins (blue color), Delphinidins (blue color). To create the blue roses, you ought to have a large blue pigment, and delphinidin, which is added to a rose. However, the roses have little the enzyme that makes delphinidin. People continued on with a cross, they cannot make it. Then the humans started to dye their roses. As the white rose is soaked into the water mixed with blue dye, the blue water rides up the stem and dyes it into blue color. Like this, rainbow roses that each petals' color is different, magic roses which change its color when temperature changes, and glows rose that shine in the dark were made.

But in 2004, the dream comes true. In 2004, the team Santory of Japan Inc. translated the blue jeans that leads the synthesis of enzymes from the flowers into roses, to make blue roses and it was succeed. Researchers think the blue jeans which is implanted in the blue pansies are extracted and implanted in the bacteria. So they made a recombination bacteria. And then, this came to pass the bacteria, a rose. The DNA of bacteria's DNA that contains Blue jeans were mixed with rose's DNA and the blue roses start to grow. So right now the mean of blue roses changed from "impossible love" to a miracle. EDIT_ Ha-Young Lee

This book contains the tragedy of school life and what it resulted in, so I would love to recommend this book to people who take pleasure in hindering others. This book would tame them down as they can see the fact that the others they used to bother can kill them, fierce with the thought only to revenge.

Relationship between music and our society

Korean artist ‘Park hyo shin'

Music always exist near by us. even if we can't aware about music. When we walk around, we can hear many kinds of melodies. and we even start our morning with alarm bell. also, while you watch television, you can hear many CM song (commercial song). When you feel sad or celebrate some events, we use music. music can heal people who get scared. Then when did people started to use music? Before people use language, people tried to express their emotion by making sound and rhythm with their voice. especially when people do hard labor, they sang a song together and take off their physical pain. this is the origin of 8 YONGHWA INSIDE

music. so music was made to enjoy and work more efficiently and happily. while world is keep changing, music's function and part change variously. First, music makes us one. we hear and enjoy 'Justin Bieber's' song in Korea even the distance between fan and the singer is very far. By enjoying music, we can communicate more widely and we can be a fan of singer who is live far away so we can't meet that singer directly. Thanks to music, we can feel sense of kinship with people who enjoy same genre. These days k-pop is keep spreading very widely. Many foreigners enjoy k-pop and love korean singer, they have interest in korea they even learn our language and wanted to know about Korea. By then, we can make our global fried and communicate with them. music is the most important part of global world, But music can be used to express negative part too. if someone have hostility in their mind and wanted to express their negative thought, they use music to express them. Hippie culture is famous for this example. At the 1960s, Europeans wanted to have free from heartlessness world. so they started to find the outlet for their desire, and they found 'The Beatles' music. the group Beatles wrote and composed song on their own and sang a songs like 'Yesterday', 'Let It Be' . Hippies were crazy about Beatles's free and opened attitude. Many people at that time enjoy their songs and against with their government. And some rappers write songs that's content is criticize and blame someone or something. they express their mind with Rap too. It can be a bad phenomenon that using music by attacking and fight. but it can be a one of their freedom of expression. Last function of music is for our hobby and satisfaction. each person have their own prefer genre. some

Enjoying music makes people relaxed and feel better. maybe that's why music beloved by many people for the long time. There will be a no end of music's history while people lives in the world.
