THE MINOR PROPHETS Leaving our other Lovers

Lead Pastor: Greg Dumas

SCRIPTURE Ephesians 4:17-24 (MSG)

And so I insist—and God backs me up on this—that there be no going along with the crowd, the empty-headed, mindless crowd. 18 They’ve refused for so long to deal with God that they’ve lost touch not only with God but with reality itself. 19 They can’t think straight anymore. Feeling no pain, they let themselves go in sexual obsession, addicted to every sort of perversion. 20 But that’s no life for you. You learned Christ! 21 My assumption is that you have paid careful attention to him, been well instructed in the truth precisely as we have it in Jesus. 22 Since, then, we do not have the excuse of ignorance, everything—and I do mean everything—connected with that old way of life has to go. It’s rotten through and through. Get rid of it! And then take on an entirely new way of life—a God-fashioned life, 23 a life renewed from the inside 24 and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you. 17

OBSERVATION • • • • • •

The Major and Minor Prophets were written to underscore God’s standards and served to warn Judah and Israel of God’s immanent judgment. Throughout the words of the Prophets, idolatry, infanticide, greed, oppression, and moral decay were rampant. Once a nation, or a people, or an individual loses their moral and objective standard of truth, they proceed to do what is right in their own eyes. Doing life apart from God’s life-giving standard brings forth judgment, loss of freedom, and ultimately, total destruction. The church in America has largely capitulated to the culture. The church MUST regain its FAITH in God and His Word if we are to preserve our future.

PRAYER Lord, thank you that you give me the power and the will to leave the other lovers in my life. I have entertained them long enough. I now realize that they have stolen so much from me and lead me far away from your grace and lavish love. I am turning my eyes back to you and I know that you will receive me back into your arms of mercy. I know that you have been waiting for me to return to you with all of my heart and that you have longed to be with me. I want to hear your voice and know your great love once again. Thank you for demonstrating your great love for me by sending Jesus to the cross, once again, I give you all of me because you gave me all of you.
