Dear Friends and Guests, Let me take a moment to welcome you to The Crossing Church! Today you will learn the second portion of the vision of our church: Prayer. We want to be a church that is fervently praying. We believe that the best way to connect with God is by talking with Him daily. We pray that your personal walk with God goes to a new level as you learn to take all of your cares to Him.

Sincerely, Greg and Tamara Dumas

Saturday, June 5 Sunday, June 6 THE VISION Prayer Hebrews 11:1-3, 6 James 4:2-3

WELCOME TO THE

CROSSING CHURCH

Lead Pastor: Greg Dumas

SCRIPTURE Hebrews 11:1-3 (NIV) Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. 1

Hebrews 11:6 (NASB) And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. 6

James 4:2-3 (NIV) You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. 2

OBSERVATION • • • • •

You have to seek a place where you can consistently hear the Word of God Your faith in Christ will grow as you consistently hear the Word of God You then have to choose Christ (Romans 10:9-10) and receive New Life The next phase of your spiritual development is all about understanding your Faith, your new Family and your Heavenly Father The Word of God, Prayer and real friendships within Biblical Community (New Family) are the keys to success as a believer in Christ Jesus

(Hebrews 11:6) • In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (James 2:17) • Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. (1 Chronicles 29:12) • I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted. PRAYER Lord I pray because I believe in you and I believe in your son Jesus Christ. You drew me to you, and caused my faith to rise and my trust to become sure. I have placed my trust in you and you have become my Lord and Savior. I am eagerly learning how to live as a son/daughter. I am exercising my faith daily and I have gained an entirely new family in Christ. I am using my Bible and I am learning to pray. You answer prayers, you empower my prayers and you make things come to pass that have always been impossible for me to imagine. I pray because you are my Heavenly Father and you hear my prayers. You care and I know that you hear me even if there are seasons of waiting and more praying. Thank you for the grace to commune with you through prayer.

LIFEGROUPS Use the following as a resource for your LifeGroup to go deeper with this week’s message. We hope this helps you as you “do life together”. A change of plans… This week Pastor Greg is continuing casting vision specifically in regards to this statement: “We see a church fervently praying.” Instead of talking ABOUT prayer this week at LifeGroup, let’s pray. You can do this! Here are some helps to get your LifeGroup praying. 1.

Begin with worship – God inhabits the praise of His people.

2. Be structured, but not too much. Give your LifeGroup a configuration to use for prayer, but let the Holy Spirit direct you wherever He leads. a. For example – Have men pray in a group and women pray in another – but if the Spirit leads – have husbands pray over their wives and vice versa. b. OR – take turns sitting each person of the LifeGroup in a chair – the rest of the LifeGroup can come around that person to pray and encourage them. c. Instead of taking prayer requests – pray those requests. 3. It is okay to stop praying for a little, worship some more and pray again. 4. If you have more questions about how to pray, this is a perfect time to touch base with your Community Leader. They will have many ideas and testimonies of the power of effective prayer. “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” James 5:16 (NIV)
