The Crossing Bulletin: Is it in you? Oct. 9th-10th

WELCOME Welcome to The Crossing Church, You are so important to what God is doing among us. We have begun a teaching series entitled, “Is It In You?” We are asking ourselves if we are ready to step up and join a team of people who are ready to make a difference in our community and nation. We need EVERY player on the field. You may have noticed that this is a big place with a lot of people. It’s easy to tell yourself that you are not vital to what’s happening here. But I want to tell you, “YOU are a vital part of this team!” God has a great plan for purpose for your life. I pray that you would consider making this your home. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to talk with one of our encouragers at the end of the service or stop by the information center located in the lobby. UPCOMING EVENTS Change in Hosted Prayer Times We are changing our hosted prayer times at the Crossing. We will now offer prayer on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 7am and Noon. Hosted prayer is a time where our staff members meet in the café to pray for our church, community, and nation.

30-day Prayer and Fasting You have been hearing Pastor Greg talk about a 30-day prayer and fast beginning in October. It’s here! The Crossing Church will be joining together to ask God to change us personally, change our church, and our nation. The bible teaches that through prayer and fasting God often speaks and humbles us. You are invited to join this important event. For more information about fasting visit our website at www.crossingonline.org/pray-and-act-30-dayfast.

WELCOME TO THE

CROSSING CHURCH

Is It In You? The Crossing Core Values: Humility Ephesians 4:2; Joel 2:12 -15, 25-28, 32

Lead Pastor: Greg Dumas

SCRIPTURE Ephesians 4:1-2 (NIV) As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 1

OBSERVATION • • • • •

Retrace your pathway and objectify your own choices, and take responsibility for your part in becoming separate. Choose to fully trust the Lord again, and give Him your personal best – give Him everything. Choose to trust the church again. Choose to trust your leadership (Pastors: Coaches) again. Humble yourself before the Lord, before the church, and before individuals you can trust.

PRAYER Raise the dead, Lord! Do what you did in Ezekiel’s vision of the valley of dry bones. We have been so defeated for so long; help us to wake up, help us to truly love one another, help us to see that we have to return to you. Help us to listen to our leadership and to learn the way of the church, help us to grow into a formidable force in our homes, and in our city, and in our country. We repent, we call, and we will pray and fast because we know that without You we will continue to live in a cycle of defeat and decay. We need you to step in and change the game! Lord, thank you for giving us the ability to win over the enemy. Thank you that you transferred us out the slave trade and the dominion of darkness. Thank you that you have delivered us from the power of the evil one through the Word of our testimony and the blood of the Lamb. We do have an identity in you, and we are proud to be called Christians. We also have the strength, and love, and life-giving presence of our local body, the church of Jesus Christ. We have unity and authority to stand together, to fight together, and to win together.

LIFEGROUPS Use the following as a resource for your LifeGroup to go deeper with this week’s message. We hope this helps you as you “do life together.”

Opener: Humility … humble. What does this word mean? Every person in your group needs to grab a piece of paper and write down a word or person that represent’s humility, or maybe your definition of what Mr. Webster says about humility, or maybe a story that describes humility. Then your leader will collect the sheets and redistribute them out so that you have somebody else’s definition. Each person will have a chance to guess whose definition that may be. The person who has the most correct responses WINS, and your leader will have a special prize for you. Digging Deeper : PRIDE is not so much bragging as it is the illusion that, “I am at the center and can manage everything on my own without help.” HUMILITY, therefore, is the opposite of this attitude. It’s not a self deprecating sort of thing; humility is just living in the truth about ourselves … and the truth is I am not God. I’m not the center. I have needs, and I have things I can’t control. I am dependant on God. That’s humility. If you remember Pastor Greg told us his story about how God humbled him. Think of a time in your life where God had to humble you, and then share with your group. How did it make you feel? In what way did you have to rely on God even more? Application: What better place to look for how to demonstrate humility than from Jesus. Our Lord displayed this attitude when he became a human being. In fact, the word actually means humility of mind. As a group look at Philippians 2:1-11 and share with your group one way Jesus shows humility and one area that the Spirit of God is convicting you about in the area of humility. Additionally, we learned that repentance is not just a onetime event that happens at salvation, but it’s a lifestyle for the Christian. We see in Joel 2:12- 15 that God says return to me with all your heart, rend me your heart. God doesn’t demand that a person never make a mistake again, but instead that we give Him our whole heart. When is the last time you stopped and made time to think about your life? What is it in your life that God is saying “repent and come back?” Make a commitment this week that you will return back to Him what He is more than capable of handling for you.
