PSEO ON-CAMPUS CONNECT ABOUT US As a new student at Crown College, it won’t take long to discover what makes us special — we’re an outstanding group of faculty and staff who truly care about our students. PSEO OPTIONS Crown offers the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) to qualified students who are Minnesota residents. This program permits students to earn college credit, which may be applied to a degree program at Crown or transferred to another institution. Students can take classes on-campus with other PSEO students. The courses are taught by Crown’s credentialed faculty members. The courses have a low student to instructor ratio and are offered in a 15-week format. All PSEO students are supported by a dedicated PSEO academic advisor.

ENG 131: English Composition

This course emphasizes the fundamentals of effective writing in the context of the elements of rhetoric: writer, audience, and purpose. Students write narrative, informative, and persuasive compositions and a documented research paper.

LAN 255: Spanish I

This course introduces the student to the sounds, basic vocabulary, and structures of the Spanish language through listening, speaking, reading and writing, and beginning awareness of the cultural context of the language. Communicative skills are reinforced through practice in integrated laboratory activities.

MAT 131: College Algebra*

This course provides a short review of Algebra II, followed by a concise study of algebraic, polynomial, exponential and logarithmic functions and their graphs. Linear, quadratic and systems of equations are included, along with their applications. This course provides a foundation for students wishing to take calculus.

PSY 130: General Psychology

This course is an introduction to the discipline of psychology, including the principles, methods, vocabulary, and major theories in the study of human behavior. Applications of psychology for life and ministry will be examined. Biblical teaching will be brought to bear on the subject matter to enable the student to develop a Christian perspective of psychology.

MUS 383: Crown College Choir

A choral ensemble of men and women, the Crown College Choir performs several major campus concerts during each academic year. The Choir also performs in chapel services, the annual Christmas at Crown, run-out concerts throughout the year and periodic tours. Repertoire is of high quality and is chosen to represent a wide range of historical periods and styles.

POL 232: Introduction to Political Science

This course introduces the theory and practice of politics, government, and administration, with special emphasis on the American constitutional system. An overview of the scope and methods of the field is given.

SCI 245: General Chemistry I*

Basic concepts of physical chemistry are introduced. Principles covered include properties of matter, nomenclature, atomic theory and structure, stoichiometry, the periodic table, solution chemistry, thermo-chemistry, quantum mechanics, bonding theories and molecular geometry. One laboratory per week.

PED 1515: Health & Wellness for Life

This course focuses on health in various aspects of life including physical, emotional, spiritual, vocational, social, and financial health. Students will learn basic principles of health in each of these areas and be encouraged to apply these principles to their own lives.

COM 133: Speech

This course provides the student with an introduction to the theory of the communication process. Topics include analyzing a target audience, organizing material, preparing an effective method of delivery, and developing informative and persuasive speeches. Each student will deliver speeches that are videotaped and evaluated.

ENG 132: Writing & Literature*

Continued instruction and practice in writing and the writing process are the focal points of this course, with emphasis on critical analysis of literary genres.

LAN 256: Spanish II*

This builds on the work of Spanish I as an introduction to the sounds, vocabulary, and structures of the Spanish language through listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as awareness of the cultural context of the language. Communicative skills are reinforced through practice in integrated laboratory activities.

Prerequisite: LAN 255 or consent of the instructor.

This course is designed to give insight, appreciation, and understanding of SCI 1531: the plant and animal world. Major concepts covered include cellular biology, Foundations of Biology biochemistry, photosynthesis and respiration, genetics, and embryology. Includes lab requirement.

MAT 243: Calculus I*

Following a review of limits, functions, and trigonometry, derivatives are studied in depth exploring linear, power, and implicit functions. Applications of the derivative include related rates, rates of change, curve sketching, and optimization. Basic integration is introduced including work with the definite integral and integral applications.

SCI 246: General Chemistry II*

This course is a continuation of General Chemistry I. Areas of study include gases, intermolecular forces, properties of solutions, kinetics, thermodynamics, chemical equilibriums, acids and bases, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, qualitative and quantitative analysis. One laboratory per week.

GEO 221: World Regional Geography

This course introduces the basic principles of geography by focusing on the diversity and interdependence of world regions. The emphasis is primarily cultural or human geography and secondarily physical geography.

Soc 230: Sociology

This is a survey course of the basic concepts in the sociological study of society, culture, the self, social organizations, the range of associational life, and social process.
