HISTORY OF INNOVATION Crown College began as a small Bible College in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1916. For over 100 years, Crown has focused on preparing students to live out their faith in the world. Now located 40 minutes west of the Twin Cities, Crown offers on-campus, online, and graduate degree programs. The community supports 16 NCAA Division III athletic teams and summer outreach programs around the globe. Though a lot has changed, the dedication to helping students grow in their faith has not. The institution’s programs deeply integrate a Christian worldview into every class, helping students to become all that God desires for them to be. Crown looks forward to the next 100 years through continued innovation in Christian higher education.

BOARD APPOINTS DR. ANDREW DENTON AS 17TH PRESIDENT In Spring of 2020, President Joel Wiggins informed the Crown Community that he would not be seeking another term and that he would be retiring in June 2021, so that he and his wife could be closer to their family. The Board of Trustees formed a Search Committee and began a search in early Summer. In March of 2021, the Board of Trustees named Dr. Andrew Denton as the President Elect. He began his tenure in July. Dr. Denton accepted the position of president of Crown College after more than 20 years in Christian higher education, including fifteen years in executive leadership. He earned the PhD in Higher Education Administration from St. Louis University and is an ordained minister in the Assemblies of God Fellowship. His roles in Enrollment, University Relations, and Administration have spanned four institutions and have prepared him to lead Crown College into a new chapter while remaining deeply committed to quality higher education within the context of an authentic Christian faith.
Dr. Denton writes, I see tremendous opportunities for growth ahead and believe that with the Lord’s help, Crown College will soar in this season. We have outstanding faculty and staff committed to integrating learning and faith in an environment that empowers and equips students to excel in their calling in any field. We have students who pursue an authentic walk with the Lord that informs their lives spiritually, academically, and socially. And we have alumni and friends around the world who support this institution with their prayers and gifts, investing in the next generation of leaders.

DR. MATHEWS AS THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS Following his appointment, President Denton immediately engaged in a search which resulted in bringing Dr. Christopher Mathews to Crown College as Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Mathews joined the Crown Community July 19 after serving the previous 17 years in both faculty and administrative roles at three universities, including Clemson University, Union University, and Oklahoma Baptist University. Dr. Mathews brings to his role a wealth of experiences in church leadership and higher education, a deep commitment to the integration of Christian faith and learning, and a resolve to partner with faculty and staff in ways that honor God, prepare students, and serve the Church and the world. “Collaboration,” “academic excellence,” and “humor” are active terms in his leadership vocabulary.
FORWARD FACING Crown College has always been interested in what Christian higher education should be now and in the future. For example, the institution's first online class was launched in 1999, demonstrating the continuous innovative outlook of the college. Crown also has two learning centers outside of Minnesota which offer students the flexibility of the online program with the value of in-class sessions. Crown has partnered with dozens of churches, providing valuable education at a discounted rate while gaining practical skills at their local church. At the inauguration of this decade of excellence and growth, Crown College has announced three new, strategic, academic dean positions: Dean of the School of Business, Dean of the School of Health and Science, and Dean of the School of Liberal Arts. Each dean will be charged with leading her/his respective school in the development of programs, the recruitment of students, the retention and graduation of students, and the development of strong supporters. These deans will work collaboratively with department chairs, Dr. Mathews, and the President’s Cabinet to inspire imaginations and to reach goals as Crown continues its mission of providing a Biblically-based education for Christian leadership in the Christian and Missionary Alliance, the church-at-large, and the world.
