Key Concepts and Techniques Margaret Davidson Serious beginning to professional-level artists seeking advanced explorations of the conceptual and technical foundations of modern era and contemporary drawing. Drawing has recently experienced a renewal of importance in the art world; in fact, it has rarely been as widely represented in the biennials, art fairs, and exhibitions as it is now. Contemporary Drawing explores this resurgence through illuminating discussions on the historical and conceptual underpinnings of contemporary drawing, which are then reinforced and illustrated with specific drawing examples/techniques by modern era masters and leading contemporary artists.

Edited by Potter Craft No matter how cute the design, or how breathtaking the yarn, nothing matters if the finished garment doesn’t fit. In this book, knitters will find a solid resource on shaping (and wearing) knitwear to advantage as well as 24 patterns designed to deliver a satisfying fit. Every knitter has experienced that moment when she finishes a sweater, casts off, and smiles—only to pull it over her head, look in the mirror, and frown. In Knits that Fit, knitters will find the information to help them achieve knitting success by breaking free from the bad habit of blindly following a pattern. From the basics of proper length and width to advice based on body type, tons of useful instructions and tips are inside. Organized by type of top—short sleeved, pullover, and cardigans— the patterns that follow all feature attention to fit in some way. The basic, unshaped square sweater will be a thing of the past. Contributors to Knits that Fit include: Annie Modesitt, Berta Karapetyan, Sally Melville, Caddy Melville Ledbetter, Amy R. Singer, Jillian Moreno, Melissa Matthay, and Lily Chin.

an excerpt from Piper Laurie: Learning to Live Out Loud Several months after the making of Louisa, the cast was asked to do a radio show. When it was over, cast mate Ronald Reagan came to me and asked, “Would you like to have some dinner?” I looked around, thinking he meant the group of us, but everyone else seemed to be on their way. I had never been sure about Ronnie’s feelings toward me. He was almost forty and a friendly father figure. But sometimes I wondered. He was certainly a man to admire, highly respected, and he exuded a quality of decency that inspired trust. As we reached the car, he smiled with such warmth and said, “I’m glad you’re joining me.” After we drove a few blocks, he said, “Piper, how would you feel if I made dinner for you?” Now it was clear. My heart was beating so hard, I was sure he could hear it. This was the kind of invitation I had always refused. But there was definitely chemistry brewing that I could not deny, and so when I answered, “Yes, I’d like that very much,” I had made a decision that this would be my first love affair.
